Of course, our feelings were hurt because we would have loved to watch. Instead, we had to watch daddy's programs instead. It wasn't until I was a senior in high-school that I got to watch. But I've been a fan ever since. Now I stream it into my TV set, and when traveling, I watch it on my phone. I heard the other day that a new version is supposed to air, but I don't know when or which channel. Hopefully someone here can fill in those blanks for me.

Me and my 12 yo daughter have started watching the Andy Griffith from season 1 episode 1 and now we are at season 3 and this show might be the most feel good life lesson show to ever be in tv. God bless Andy, Don and Ron
Andy was wise, and made a genius call with Don Knotts. He's right; the show would have lasted 2 weeks without Don. "The Andy Griffith Show" is still just as good today as it was back in the day. I especially like the guest musicians who made appearances on the show.

..One of, if not the best TV shows of all time.. Got a chance to meet Andy when I was about 11 years old.. We were vacationing in Nags Head, NC, and waiting to go out fishing on a charter boat. The man who ran the marina pointed to a boat coming into the inlet, & said "there's Andy".. My father said "Andy who"? "Andy Griffith" he replied.. My dad was also a huge fan, "No Time For Sergeants" was one of his favorite movies (the "saluting toilet" scene is one of the funniest ever). We went down on the dock as his boat backed in.. He was very gracious, and had a great day fishing.. My friend and I kept looking past Andy into the boat, & he noticed this, & asked "What are ya'll youngins lookin' for"? We replied in unison... "Opie" He busted out laughing.. After all he"s done, I'm glad we were able to make HIM laugh...
I was happy to hear Andy tell about not wanting the mayor character(s). I finally decided mayors might hold some sway in terms of working against them if they didn't kiss the ring. By the way, my vacation trip to Mt Airy NC was one of the best of my 70 years.
I met Mr. Griffith in 1969 while I was in the Air Force, and he was staying at the hotel where I was moonlighting as a bellhop. This famous star had a suite just off the lobby and he would leave his door open so literally anyone could stick their head in and talk to him. If memory serves, he had a bottle of booze on the table, and a couple of long haired dachshunds that he would walk through the lobby and out into the parking lot. Most people were too shy to speak to him, but those that did have stories they are still telling their great grandchildren!!

I miss these times desperately. There should be an "Andy Griffith National Day" to honor the cast, values and show and America! Same with Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross.
Anyone who has ever seen Andy Griffith in A FACE IN THE CROWD with Patricia Neal and Walter Matthau would have to admit that Andy is just as talented as Marlon Brando. And he didn't take himself as seriously as Brando.
She's mentioned in the episode where Aunt Bee is getting ready to get married. And the first pilot (you almost never see it because it was part of the Danny Thomas show and aired over a year before the AG show debuted) tells us she died when Opie was very young.

Andy Griffith lived in the Outer Banks area of N.C. full-time for about the last 20 years of his life...and he was a rude and nasty person in real life...a jerk. You can easily look that up on the internet and see for yourself. He'd occasionally perform these filmed pleasant reminiscences about his old show because he received residuals for re-runs (he had that in his contract)...so to him, these filmed reminiscences were essentially promos for the re-runs of the series...which equated to $$ for Andy. But in real life...he was truly a rude jerk.
The show certainly did feature good moral values and most of the stories emphasized the consideration of the needs of others. But what I think is sad is that some folks think that anyone who supports any government action designed to help people is "far left", when in reality they are just thoughtful, caring people.
@@s2snider Obamacare was a far left explosion of government interference in the lives of corporations and private citizens. It forced on every single insurance policy to include all kinds of garbage that the person may not want on their policy, but they had to have it anyway which exploded the price of it. Before Obamacare working families usually had a deductible between $200 and $500. Thanks to Obamacare, Deductibles are now between five and $10,000. Obamacare did not help any working family at all but crippled them. Everyone at the company I was at, we all lost our insurance because none of us could afford it. Pre Obummer care, I paid 200 a month with a $200 deductible for dental vision and medical for my entire family. Obamacare killed that with the lie, if you like your plan, you get to keep your plan. Every single time Barack Obama said that, he knew that he was a bald face liar. Andy Griffith went on tour all over America and on TV ramming Obamacare down our throat and it was the worst thing that could’ve happened to us. Far left? Dang right it was far left.
I was at the Cleveland Clinic on 11/10/23, waiting while my wife's cancer was being diagnosed in an examination room. The Andy Griffith Show was on the TV in the patients' waiting room, and I cannot even begin to describe the wonderful, calming, reassuring effect it had on all the anxious people present.
For 39 minutes and 47 seconds tonight, I managed to shut out every bit of the chaos going on in the world right now and get completely lost in every second of this video. I grew up watching TAGS reruns in the early 70s. And, while I know it's impossible to go back in time, there are just some days that I really need that clock to be rolled back. It's difficult to really put into words. It was just a simpler time back then.
@@randymillhouse791Most black people I know say it was a better time too. Most kids or people I should say that grew up in the seventies miss that time period regardless of race...........or were you just making a joke?
Wait you think it was a better time because of a wholesome TV show? You really think that accurately depicted the times or the hardships that people had?
Don Knotts' Barney Fife character elevated the show to classic status. When he left, no natural comedy element remained. Kudos to Andy Griffith for realizing early on that the hick sheriff bit wasn't going to fly, especially since he was playing the essentially serious role of a widower raising a five-year-old.
I respectfully disagree. Andy's becoming a serious character in the fourth season badly damaged the show. When Goober or one of the other characters does something goofy and Andy gets a peevish expression on his face, I wince. If Andy has no empathy for Mayberry's characters, then why should the viewer?
@@teastrainer3604 - By early on, I'm going as far back to the spin-off pilot from the Danny Thomas Show which had Andy as a stereotypical, almost buffoonish hayseed character. Some of that continued into the first proper episode, with Barney introduced as his cousin. Griffith sensed something was off and quickly retooled the show making Barney the featured wacky, laugh-getting, nervous deputy character and Sheriff Andy Taylor a more normal, reasonable and responsible type; in essence, the straight man of the duo. The show then became very consistent throughout Don Knotts' tenure. I suspect that what you observed along the way with Griffith's performance might have been due to his over-involvement with the production and writing of the show. He took no credit except as an actor but he worked on the making of every episode and was essentially in charge creatively. The peevishness you perceived (which I doubt too many other viewers did) may have been due to things (which could have included other characters or actors' performances) not being up to his desired standards.
@@Noomz-of-Earl I'm fully aware of all that. I'm saying that the last five seasons of the show were nothing compared to the first three seasons, and it all had to do with Andy's turning serious and looking down on Mayberry's boneheads.. In the first three seasons he played the same character he had in No Time for Sergeants, and it worked much better. In the beginning he managed to be more sensible than the cast's eccentrics while also being funny. I imagine that as a Southerner Andy was sensitive about such matters and wanted to show that a Southerner could play a serious character.
@@teastrainer3604 - Of course, after "No Time for Sergeants" he played, to much critical acclaim, one of the most serious original dramatic film roles of the late 1950s in Elia Kazan/Budd Schulberg's "A Face in the Crowd."
@@Noomz-of-Earl Lonesome Rhodes while in his scammer mode was just like Andy in No Time for Sergeants. Mayberry was a surreal place with surreal people living in it. That's what made it funny. You're welcome to think Andy improved the show by making himself and his girlfriend serious characters but I'm not going to agree with that. Andy hated Mayberry RFD but it wasn't much worse than the last few seasons of his show.

Obamacare was a far left explosion of government interference in the lives of corporations and private citizens.
Never knew Andy Griffith was a draft dodger. What a shame.
Who cares?
@@timhiltonsuperstar I care. As I’m sure others who honorably served care as well. Not that you’d know anything about it.
Andy Griffith was hated by his costars on the set as many others have said. He was also a racist.
Get a life, Racist-Shouter!
Funny that not one of the actors ever said anything about “hating” Andy.
Maybe they are all liars.
Or maybe you’re just a troll.

I hope things get better for you.
Thank you.@@patrickt6642

Barney completed the sheriff, Don Knotts was hilarious, I loved his character.
I feel the exact same way.
Unless your skin was black. Get it?
@@randymillhouse791Most black people I know say it was a better time too. Most kids or people I should say that grew up in the seventies miss that time period regardless of race...........or were you just making a joke?
Wait you think it was a better time because of a wholesome TV show? You really think that accurately depicted the times or the hardships that people had?
I totally understand what you are saying. I feel the exact same way
I think Eleanor Donahue was more talented than she gave herself credit for.
She did well on the Griffith show, but there was no chemistry between Andy and her.
I had a crush on her from Father Knows Best. I still do.
I agree, wish she lasted the whole season
I enjoyed her character on the show.
Eleanor was just going through a divorce with many other issues. If she had less personal issues she probably would have stayed.
My son was recently diagnosed with cancer. When I get really stressed, I watch episodes of Andy Griffith. It takes me back to my childhood and is so calming.
Thoughts and prayers for strength and healing for both your son and you.

This was the BEST T.V. show of all time! I still laugh at every episode, even though I've seen each one dozens of times. I wish we had good, clean, DECENT T.V. shows today, but we DO NOT! I also enjoyed The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie...good, moral, decent T.V. shows. I hardly ever turn on the T.V. these days...it's pretty much trash, sex or violence.

Jim Neighbors (Gomer Pile) was from Sylacauga, AL. My mom attended Sylacauga, High School and was just a couple years behind Jim in school. Many of the old timers here still remember him. I knew a teacher who went to school with him. Small town guy who made it big.
