How exactly does having the engine at the back increase cabin space? I hope it doesn't handle like a Hillman Imp. Is there a boot at the front as well?
I quite enjoyed this video... But it has to be followed up with a proper review. This type of video would be quite nice as a precursor to car reviews in future. It's nice to see which people in the car market are attracted to certain cars.
The styling is much improved on this new model. Although I won't buy a car in this segment, I'd say the new Twingo is the most funky in class on the market today.
Not a Renault fan but I absolutely love the Twingo, always have. However, sorry CarBuyer but I like to see reviewers talking about the car, not the opinions of the public; their opinions are irrelevant to me.
After previously criticising all the various idiosyncrasies of the Twingo, I took a test drive in a 70 HP base model and could not believe how good it was to drive with great all round visibility. There is no indication that it has a rear engine and the bonnet opening mechanism seems to have been slightly modified so that it now just slides forward and back rather than totally detaches. The styling is more attractive in real life than it is in pictures. The current £99 three year Easylife servicing deal in the UK offsets the normally expensive maintenance costs and I have been impressed enough to order a new GT 110 which I collect next week to replace my Clio 0.9 TCe with GT line bodykit.
I would guess they used the extra space in the front for moving the front seats forward and create more legroom in the back. And also, without an engine in the front i guess the turning circle would be dramatically improved.
Uroš Zakovšek Oh, thats nice. But in that case, can you comment on what I thought they have improved by moving the engine to the back. Difference in cabin space by moving the front seats? Better turning circle? Would be nice to know.
What if I go to Switzerland, I buy 4 big boxes of chocolate and put it in the boot. By the time I'm back home in UK, the chocolate will melt due to the engines heat coming from below the boot? :)
I GOT one 1 month ago. Actually I have the non turbo one, generally I think the car is solid and driving is really good. Great steering, and very good driving position. Mileage is pretty good too. Now I'd rather go for the turbo version though.
WTF! You said that engine was at the back then mentioned the small boot space because of it... so whats at the front if not more boot space??? How could you miss to show us this fact?
Actually the front end is much shorter than it would be if the engine were in front (so the interior space is maximized), and it is a safer car this way because the engine and gearbox (they don't crumple) aren't pushed into the passenger in a crash.
I really hope this car sells well ... Being rear engined and RWD it's something we haven't seen in cars for decades. I'll go for a test drive as soon as it hits the showrooms ...
I really like the look of the new Renault design! I love the big badge and was really impressed with the new Clio when it first came out. I am glad that they are extending the look to different models :)
Have test driven the 70hp sce version apart from the light steering this is a fun little car. Am getting the 90hp tce dynamique in flame red with the full length sunroof with red touch packs inside & out. Under the front bonnet is the battery, fluid top ups & a crash box, no storage there. Tiny outside spacious inside
No need to criticize the space in the back. There are already PLENTY of front wheel drive cars with decent room in the back so go ahead to choose from them. This one unique little car was brave enough to have Rear Wheel Drive!!
What did put Renault into the front when the engine is in the back? Are we going to see a 4 wheel hybrid sport version with front wheel torque verctoring?
Rear engine and rear while drive? That is like going back to the 60s... I think exterior styling is allright, but I do must say it feels like a Fiat 500 imitation to me. In the interior they went over it with all the red things. I do like some sporty styling, but this is overkill.
I think it's quite cool how you're getting the public involved. I would love to see how it handles though. Rear engined rwd city car. Needs a performance version imo
The Renault Twingo is 100% produced in Slovenia and not in France. It's also mostly designed in Slovenia. Many parts are also made in Slovenia. The Slovenian Renault factory has received awards as the best Renault factory there is several times, mostly because of the quality of production. Very very few cars that come from Slovenia ever break down. I think the new Twingo still is not as special as the first Twingo was so I do not see it be very successful. But there are many many more competitors in this segment today.
great cheap car and I'll buy it for sure when it comes to Cro!! I have old twingo now and on new I like extra doors this is one of the best compact little car ever!
Carbuyer when you test the headroom in the back, do you ever consider that tall people are quite different? Some people have long legs, while other have a long torso (i'm the latter). So even though I'm 180 cm or 5.9 foot I rarely fit in any car on the back seat. A 6.5 foot Volvo dealer once promised me that I could get his V80 for free if I could prove that I couldn't fit. He quickly re-phrased this opportunity when I banged my head against the roof :P
rear mounted engine, like the 911, probably gearbox at the front for weight distribution, yeah, it should be fun and nimble to drive and it's handling should be good as well
No, the front is useless, and that is a big problem! The front is not even on hindges, so it is very difficult to refill the liquids. I hope they fix this problem very soon, the frunk would be nice.
You access the engine by lifting up the insulation carpet of the boot, you will see a lid, unscrew the six screws that secure it then lift up lid, voila you have the engine. As for the bonnet, remove the two plastic covers on the grill by the headlights, you should see two levers, the right side has a lock you undo with the key then pull the two levers at the same time and the bonnet opens forwards, you have access to the coolants, washer fluids and battery. To close bonnet, push back bonnet into place, push back in the two levers simultaneously then lock, replace two plastic covers and job done.
Um.... I thought that with engine in the back there would be an actual boot in the front, but after seeing that there is none I wonder, how the hell wasn't Renault able to make some space for boot in front ?
Is it gonna be available in RHD unlike the previous Twingos ?? !! Sad there is no storage under the bonnet as that's where the battery and liquids etc live !!!
I think RR makes this car, it'd be great anyway, but that's the ticket. Once this is out I think it should have a competitive driving edge over the FFs, can't wait for the hot version!
my front wheel drive Ford Fiesta has immense lift off oversteer! I don't think its an issue derived from a particular drivetrain layout but rather the somewhat "square" dimensions if you compare wheel track width with wheelbase. I've found cars with a more "retangular" set up (considerably longer wheelbase compared to track width) don't suffer from lift off oversteer as much
"Lift off oversteer! It took Porsche years to sort that out!" Simple solution: Don't lift off. The problem wasn't with the car, it was with the people driving them.
Just found out there is no storage under the hood? That is strange but I really want to see how this car does in frontal crash test since the fiat rates so poorly. Something tells me since there is no storage because Renault wanted to make sure it can get 5 stars and if it does then I will say this car is very good.
I wish Renault would come back to the US market just for such a car. Not since the Type 1 Beetle have we had a small rear-engine car that offers a modicum of practicality with personalization options for anyone. I would love to see how much fun it is to drive. I will add this to the large list of cars we can't have over here, that look like fun. 😂
It remindes me on Polish bulid Fiat 126p Bis . It had 850 cc wather cooled rear engine under rear boot , it was 3 door hatchback and it had spare wheel and some more space under the bonet .
Saw this at the Geneva Motor Show but couldn't get inside sadly. Looked fantastic up-close though, and there's some promising innovation going on here. Makes the VW Up look decidedly conservative!
small, rwd, turbo, I smell fun... what does it have in the front though? another luggage compartment? I've watched some videos about this car but none of them showed the front :/
I my view this is currently THE micro to get. Rear wheel drive, nice design and good value. I'll wait for the electric version though. The instantly available torque from an electric motor on the rear wheels should be lots of fun. For the same reason I was very disappointed to learn that Renault decided to postpone the electric version a few months ago. Renault please understand that we want THIS electric commuter and not a dull front wheel drive Zoe. And while I'm at it please make it an option to BUY the battery. A lot of people don't like your mandatory renting scheme.
For a small compact it seams to do the job rather well, but let´s see how it drives - Not expecting big figures or impressions, but it should be nifty/fresh with that styling. Any space in the front ? or is it all the batteries cooling etc ?.
the last Twingo to arrive in Brazil was back in 2000 or 2001, wow!!!they changed it a lot!!look awesome now, such a shame Brazil wont get 108, C1, Aygo, Twingo....only lame Vw UP and Fiat Mobi.
This car with a Renaultsport clio engine and transmission with some wider tyres and small bodywork changes could make a great sports car.# Oh and then add it to GT6 so I can give it 500BHP.
It's EXACTLY 4 YEARS SINCE CARBUYERS FIRST VIDEO! Just look at the transformation of cars and how much better they look. Keep up the fabulous work!
Is there a second boot in front?
I'll give Rebecca a 10/10.
How exactly does having the engine at the back increase cabin space? I hope it doesn't handle like a Hillman Imp. Is there a boot at the front as well?
Rebecca that's why I love watching your review, your smart and in touch with current trends btw that car is hot!
So, if the engine is in the boot, whats under the bonnet?
Battery, wiper instruments and crash protection points.
I quite enjoyed this video... But it has to be followed up with a proper review. This type of video would be quite nice as a precursor to car reviews in future. It's nice to see which people in the car market are attracted to certain cars.
So the engine's in the back. What's in the front?
new kind of videos, well done carbuyer!
The styling is much improved on this new model. Although I won't buy a car in this segment, I'd say the new Twingo is the most funky in class on the market today.
If the engine is at the back then what's in the front ??

Most important question what is under the bonnet? Second luggage space? Or is it fixed shut like Alfa 4c ?
no, its stuff like crash protection points and battery
So what's in the front? Spare wheel?
Looking forward to the full test.
Is there a Front boot? Whats under the Bonet, if not an Engine?
I would guess they used the extra space in the front for moving the front seats forward and create more legroom in the back. And also, without an engine in the front i guess the turning circle would be dramatically improved.
i work at a renault dealer and if the one shows up i will look and give you an heads up
Uroš Zakovšek Oh, thats nice. But in that case, can you comment on what I thought they have improved by moving the engine to the back. Difference in cabin space by moving the front seats? Better turning circle? Would be nice to know.
I'd like to check under her bonnet..she certainly knows how to handle a gear stick.
well it turns out it isnt any storage at all just some
What if I go to Switzerland, I buy 4 big boxes of chocolate and put it in the boot. By the time I'm back home in UK, the chocolate will melt due to the engines heat coming from below the boot? :)
A small fridge/airco storage would be a nice option..
Do you not get any storage under the bonnet? Or did she just forget to mention it?
Whats under the hood? More storage? Spare wheel?
I GOT one 1 month ago. Actually I have the non turbo one, generally I think the car is solid and driving is really good. Great steering, and very good driving position. Mileage is pretty good too. Now I'd rather go for the turbo version though.
I have the 90 turbo version & it's ace, suffers from a bit of turbo lag but when it kicks in wayhay
@@jonathandonne1432 Give it a basic remap, The difference is night & day.
I love this reactions video but I hope a full review video is also coming out.
Yes! As soon as we're allowed to drive it in the UK.
Carbuyer is it a rear wheel driving
kalèd màtt Yes it is!
I'm not a friend of French cars, but I'd really love to drive the new twingo! Lovely car!
Very cool car!
Very friendly video :)
Thanks Rebbeca!
WTF! You said that engine was at the back then mentioned the small boot space because of it... so whats at the front if not more boot space??? How could you miss to show us this fact?
the fron is useless! Only battery and liquids! Hope they fix that!
wow, so bad then, no room at the front and even less than before at the back... whats the point?
your are not a man, so its OK
Actually the front end is much shorter than it would be if the engine were in front (so the interior space is maximized), and it is a safer car this way because the engine and gearbox (they don't crumple) aren't pushed into the passenger in a crash.
Is there storage in the front too? Wasn't mentioned. Presumably there is if the engine is in the rear.
Looks like this video was filmed in Walton on Thames!
Indeed it was!
So, is there any storage space in the front? I do like the customization, and you can barely tell there is an engine in the back...
I really hope this car sells well ... Being rear engined and RWD it's something we haven't seen in cars for decades. I'll go for a test drive as soon as it hits the showrooms ...
Will renault make an rs version?
I really like the look of the new Renault design! I love the big badge and was really impressed with the new Clio when it first came out. I am glad that they are extending the look to different models :)
Have test driven the 70hp sce version apart from the light steering this is a fun little car. Am getting the 90hp tce dynamique in flame red with the full length sunroof with red touch packs inside & out. Under the front bonnet is the battery, fluid top ups & a crash box, no storage there. Tiny outside spacious inside
When presenting the new Twingo one should ALWAYS go straight to the fact that it's a RWD car.
What's beneath the front hood then?
Apparently the boot (trunk) the battery and the screen washer bottle too, so it's a bit small
No need to criticize the space in the back. There are already PLENTY of front wheel drive cars with decent room in the back so go ahead to choose from them. This one unique little car was brave enough to have Rear Wheel Drive!!
I love the interior, I think they've done really well with the personalisation options.
What's under the front lid?
if the engine is at the back then whats in the front bay? storage?
wats in the front ? now that the engine is in the back?
so you get a front boot as in porsches? and how do you service the engine? it's pretty much hidden
Sooooo what's under the bonnet?
I liked this video, can't wait for the full review! :)
Totally agree. Some of the colours inside look cheap as well because of the overkill
I agree as well, too similar to the 500 And bad engineering choices... If 99% of small city car are fwd there is a reason...
You can pick other colours too. Probably the red is an option that costs a few hundred, standard will be black or grey.
Indeed, the rear is inspired by the Renault 5 Turbo and it keeps the spirit of the twingo : being small, practical and cheap.
If the engine is in the back... Does it have additional space in the front? Be is it rwd? Too bad such a car is not available in my country
1:53 wow
I think it's quite cool how you're getting the public involved. I would love to see how it handles though. Rear engined rwd city car. Needs a performance version imo
I think for what it is it's pretty awesome.... I would have one without a doubt
this is not a review, this is an Advert.
if the engine is on back , what is in front ? front boot ?
Definitely take it over the Golf I have now. Driving dynamics over an inch or two's extra head/legroom any day.
Can I just ask why it is left hand drive when they are in England?
great cheap car and I'll buy it for sure when it comes to Cro!! I have old twingo now and on new I like extra doors this is one of the best compact little car ever!
Where did you get that microphone from :))) I thik it has like 80cm long :))))
The interior is a vast improvement compared to the previous model's. In my opinion, it looks more like a Clio.
Sooo...what is in front if the engine is in the back?
dosen t it have space under the bonnet?
Basics. Big bottle? Banana? 5ft 4 1/2?
How does it drive? And is there any storage under the bonnet?
We've not driven it yet! And no - there's no storage under the bonnet.
Thanks
That makes no sense. The original VW Beetle has storage under the bonnet. So what is under the bonnet if it's not an engine?
This looks almost identical to Fiat 500. In fact, initially just by glancing at the thumbnail, I thought it was the review for that car!
Very good new concept of review
I like this new style of review.
180 is 6ft and everyone has virtually the exact same body proportions
rear mounted engine, like the 911, probably gearbox at the front for weight distribution, yeah, it should be fun and nimble to drive and it's handling should be good as well
If the engine is in the back, is there extra storage up front?
No, the front is useless, and that is a big problem! The front is not even on hindges, so it is very difficult to refill the liquids. I hope they fix this problem very soon, the frunk would be nice.
I like the exterior, but interior looks cheap.
Well its a cheap-ish car to begin with.
the clio is cheap too
Maurazio Pugeot 208 cost (more or less) the same and doesn't look cheap inside.
uk574 that's true however 208 is a little more expensive but not enough to make that difference...
uk574 i meant cheap qualitywise, not only a matter of looks anyway
Hope it drives well with its RWD setup, also it just looks ready for a renault sport takeover
How do you access the engine and what's in the frunk?
You access the engine by lifting up the insulation carpet of the boot, you will see a lid, unscrew the six screws that secure it then lift up lid, voila you have the engine. As for the bonnet, remove the two plastic covers on the grill by the headlights, you should see two levers, the right side has a lock you undo with the key then pull the two levers at the same time and the bonnet opens forwards, you have access to the coolants, washer fluids and battery. To close bonnet, push back bonnet into place, push back in the two levers simultaneously then lock, replace two plastic covers and job done.
Under bonnet is battery, radiator, washer fluid top up, coolant top up & part of the crash structure
I like the twingo with Rebecca together
rear mounted engine = no ice cream or frozen foods at the back
Why no testdrive ????
If the engine is in the back ...what's in the front?
Um.... I thought that with engine in the back there would be an actual boot in the front, but after seeing that there is none I wonder, how the hell wasn't Renault able to make some space for boot in front ?
smart, you guys went to the street to get some feedback for it, good idea!
What is in the front bonnet if the engine is in the rear?
It's a crumple zone
Is it gonna be available in RHD unlike the previous Twingos ?? !!
Sad there is no storage under the bonnet as that's where the battery and liquids etc live !!!
With limit the number 10...
I give it aaa............
100000 / 10
I think RR makes this car, it'd be great anyway, but that's the ticket. Once this is out I think it should have a competitive driving edge over the FFs, can't wait for the hot version!
Rear engine? Lift off oversteer! It took Porsche years to sort that out!
yes because the car will have enough power for that, probably the biggest engine for normal cars will be the 0.9 tce whit 90bhp...
my front wheel drive Ford Fiesta has immense lift off oversteer!
It took Porsche years to sort that out!"
Simple solution: Don't lift off.
The problem wasn't with the car, it was with the people driving them.
perfect fun. And correct the oversteer
hopefully some power oversteer on tight corners in the wet
If the engines in the back then what's in the front
Just found out there is no storage under the hood? That is strange but I really want to see how this car does in frontal crash test since the fiat rates so poorly. Something tells me since there is no storage because Renault wanted to make sure it can get 5 stars and if it does then I will say this car is very good.

cést magnifique! It's rear wheel drive! Renault did it before with the 4CV in the 1950's. Do want!
It remindes me on Polish bulid Fiat 126p Bis . It had 850 cc wather cooled rear engine under rear boot , it was 3 door hatchback and it had spare wheel and some more space under the bonet .
I love Renaults, I love city cars, this is my perfect commuter car to have as a second car with something my love of stupid fast cars. Yes please.
Saw this at the Geneva Motor Show but couldn't get inside sadly. Looked fantastic up-close though, and there's some promising innovation going on here. Makes the VW Up look decidedly conservative!
I live in France and seems that the DS3 is extremely popular here.
This Twingo looks like a commercial response to the DS3... doesnt it?
good day :)
small, rwd, turbo, I smell fun... what does it have in the front though? another luggage compartment? I've watched some videos about this car but none of them showed the front :/
If the engines in the back what's in the front bit of the car where the engine normally is?:):)
I don't care about what people think o the car.
Love the new Twingo by the way...
Any space in the front ? or is it all the batteries cooling etc ?.
very interesting aproach to a car review, like it
Will you do the Mitsubishi outlander phev please
The posh lady was forced to say nice things about it lol
Is there a boot in the front? Too bad that windows don't open in the rear. But RWD. How come noone is freaking out about that?
the last Twingo to arrive in Brazil was back in 2000 or 2001, wow!!!they changed it a lot!!look awesome now, such a shame Brazil wont get 108, C1, Aygo, Twingo....only lame Vw UP and Fiat Mobi.
would be surprised if they didnt release a 1.4t renaultsport version of this
It is sad that vehicles of this type are not offered in the USA.
Cant wait for the twingo rs
This car with a Renaultsport clio engine and transmission with some wider tyres and small bodywork changes could make a great sports car.#
Oh and then add it to GT6 so I can give it 500BHP.
