I’m in a photography class and my instructor asked how I know so much… I told her I watch Manny on RUclips lol. Thanks for the content. I learn more off RUclips than in class
Sitting here with a 48" softbox thinking I just struck gold. Little more drama than the 59", but a little more airy/soft compared to the 36". Cheers for the great video!
The large softbox is softer due to the system, which should be obvious. Both fulfil different functions. For me, the smaller softbox is a very good tool for making a portrait of a person. For shots of a whole person or a group of people, the larger one is preferable because it makes a larger and more even light stamp. If uncontrolled light diffusion is not so important, I consider a very large umbrella with a diffuser to be a very good substitute for the large softbox.
so, my battle these days when I'm doing portraits is either using a HUGE soft box, or using the same size umbrella, with diffusion. because it compacts down so much smaller for travel, and you get both a bounce and a diffusion as opposed to the double diffusion in most softboxes like that.
I had similar thoughts as I watched the video. Certainly was a clean result with that large Octa, but would have liked to see it compared to a large umbrella.
Keep doing what your doing Manny. Short concise and brief with a lot of helpful information per topic. For me I prefer it that way. When I search for creative contents in RUclips, I always shy away when I see the duration would be 10 mins. or more. People now a days have a dozen things to do. More power!
You are now one of my favorite youtubers! Started appreciating flashes lately and your videos gave made it easier for me to understand and compare equipments. Thank you!
Of course you are going to get different results. If subject is 36" from background, and 36" modifier is 36" inches in front of subject is would be the same as subject 59 inches from background and modifier 59 inches in front of subject. Anytime one of the variables is changed, the results will change i.e. contrast, shadows, harsh versus soft light. Inverse square law.
Haha I agree with you at the end. I'd much rather watch short videos and be like "wait that's it? I was enjoying it so much!", than "Oh I'm liking this video but it's taking up too much time". Your videos are always super clear and concise while being on the short end, love your work!!
this video was really helpful. Thanks bruh. And these 5 minute videos are perfect. It's those 16 min videos from the other dudes that are a beast to sit thru. "aint nobody got time fah dat" lol
I like the "commercial" lighting, as you call it, for the studio setting. that white background and the subject.....she just looks insanely pretty in that light. for the "drama", I think it'd have to be like an environmental portrait to make sense. like you said, there's room for both. awesome video, my man
Always watch your video to the end and I remember pretty much all of them I've watched. On TIK TOK you watch video u scroll and you don't remember what u just watched.
Thanks Manny. Love the comparison of the two different modifiers. I have learned from you, to use larger one for studio work and smaller for on location. And I do appreciate the brevity of your videos.
If you move the 36in Softbox in would that make the light softer with a little more wrap around to the background and use a 85mm lens on both and get the same results?
its almost incomparable quality but we have to factor in how travel and set up is...i have both a 36 and a 59 as well...i use the 36 more often as its so much more portable...but if i owned a photo studio where i could leave equipment up...i'd use the 59 more often
I never click out of your videos Manny! You create such entertaining and worthwhile content. Those people are out there though!! I love the Zeppelin for sure!!
No man your videos are ok when it comes to time thanks for thé no bs series straight and direct info Even the videos when you get more in depth on a product or photography tutorial are just so instructive so in no way boring So thanks for your efforts and time to get that content out to us thanks for sharing you inspire many!!!
I watched til the end. Great video buddy! IMO, it's not so much short videos, but rather videos that get to the point, that I appreciate most. Your videos all get to the point fast and stay fun without being corny. Keep up the good work.
Keep doing what you do, bro. I watch to the end b/c you're all in, and the content is on point. Let those who are mapping to shorter attention spans do what they do - it's all good, but understand that true knowledge comprehension takes time, and I'm good with that. Cheers!
Thank you for this comparison! Definitely, the Zeppelin is a go to for the studio but that 36" is just so versatile when on location. I don't leave home without it.
I love a huge soft light. I go through the hassle of using it indoors and outdoors (lots of weights) depending on the vibe. I love my smaller lights too but that commercial look gets me dog.
Id recommend getting a 2x3 silk on a pole and just buy umbrella's in diff sizes and color (silver, white, etc). Its like having any softbox you want basically
It makes sense the 36in has a harsher light due to its size. I like the 59 inch better! I agree, it has more of a commercial feel. Great video! Thank you for the demo! And I feel you on the short attention span, this world is getting more and more impatient and harder to entertain! BTW whats the name of that box thing youre sitting on?
I make it to the end. You know what they say; "older men have stamina", lol. I need to have another cup of tea and flick the central heating on now! :)
I don't know what it is about your channel bro, but I really like your content. I feel like you're somebody I know teaching me this stuff. I have. 36 inch but ordered a 60 inch and waiting on it to arrive this week. So I'm super excited about that. In the future, maybe produce a few courses or videos on how to expose or grow a photography business. I'm having trouble with that atm. I'm over here on the westside (Los Angeles) and everybody here is a photographer lol. Saturated market.
Alway watch to the end manny and even the add has now finished because I type my comment so slow lol your welcome😜 keep it coming bro you the man 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
What an age we live in when 5 minutes is considered a long video. LOL. I'm seeing these 15 second vertical mode "shorts" on RUclips now and roll my eyes.
How about a tour of your studio? Is this a commercial location or home studio? What do you have in your studio? What would you change? What do you plan to add?
Great video. Wow, getting that big boy would save all the work and the extra light I have to use to get that smooth look. Your videos being short and to the point are a big reason I value your insights so much.
Him talking about short attention spans made me realize I should stop using social media as it’s all about find one post interact for a few seconds, move to the next, and rinse and repeat. What is this doing to my school performance? Making my brain not be able to tolerate moments where I need long attention spans. Could be a reason why so many of us struggle with focusing on tasks for extended periods of time. It is time to spend less time scrolling through our phones.
Great Manny, obvious result but good to see in a straight forward Demo. You said exactly what I was thinking, more professional clean image making. Time for Diana to get busy under it. Keep up the good work..
I would also recommend the buff plm, and pair the silver and translucent. Shoot backwards into the silver, the let the reflected light shine through the translucent. It is 84inches, so it works close or a bit further out.
this confirmed my suspicions, lol.. I love dramatic photography so I use grids and small softboxes for that.. BUT.. I get alot of clients who want family shots and for that I use the bigger softbox, no grid - for the very reason your video pointed out. the larger softbox gives softer shadows, beautiful bright light all over, that commercial hallmark card look. So I AM moving in the right direction and learning something... whewww. thank God!
Love your videos. Definitely dont always agree lol photography is all about personal creative choices anyway but I LOVE that you're here to teach and make photography accessible to a lot of people. Dont stop
Great video as always Manny! I love seeing size comparisons, especially in-studio because it shows how much variety you can get, no matter what space you're shooting in
Bigger light source fills shadows from different angles.. That's why spot modifiers are so hard... What i'm still checking out is putting the light inside the parabolic...
I’m in a photography class and my instructor asked how I know so much… I told her I watch Manny on RUclips lol. Thanks for the content. I learn more off RUclips than in class
You never let me down with your teaching. I’m not worried about how long your videos are. If I’m watching I’m learning. Thanks for your time.
Это очень по Русски
This was helpful. I like the zeppelin for women and the smaller light for men or when I’m going for a stronger more dramatic effect.
I was thinking the same
Interesting… Going to do a few tests on my own !
Sitting here with a 48" softbox thinking I just struck gold. Little more drama than the 59", but a little more airy/soft compared to the 36". Cheers for the great video!
Video at this length shows that there’s no fluff and to the point. People needs this
just showing us a super clear comparison with both (fantastic) real pics and test shots and not wasting our time. So, so appreciated.
They both have their purpose. For me, I like both looks.
Damn, I just bought the 36" as my first soft box too. Thank you for sharing this video.
I am considering a larger soft box for the future.
I definitely enjoy the drama of a smaller octa! But the soft light is also to die for 🥲

Exactly my thoughts!

Just compare both and see it the difference in light quality is worth it for you
just wanted to let you know, I made it till the end. I was engrossed. Short and sweet. Keep it up.
Keep doing what your doing Manny. Short concise and brief with a lot of helpful information per topic. For me I prefer it that way. When I search for creative contents in RUclips, I always shy away when I see the duration would be 10 mins. or more. People now a days have a dozen things to do. More power!
the bigger softox gives a much more "expensive" look. it looks really great
You are now one of my favorite youtubers! Started appreciating flashes lately and your videos gave made it easier for me to understand and compare equipments. Thank you!
That soft light looks nice- but the dramatic vibes of the 36 makes my eyes happy. Dope video as usual
Of course you are going to get different results. A longer outdoor photoshoot would be kinda cool though :) when you're just walking around giving random tips with your models, those are great!!!
Here since 80k still love your content, although you’ve always taken great photos, you’ve level yourself every time!! Keep killing it bruh
Informative bro, stu looks 🔥
Missing your vibe bro! God bless #vlogs

Really great video. I personally prefer the soft look most of the time. The harsh light works sometimes too depending on style.
Thanks Manny. Love the comparison of the two different modifiers. I have learned from you, to use larger one for studio work and smaller for on location. And I do appreciate the brevity of your videos.
Man.. those 36in Octo shots in the beginning were perfection man!!
If you move the 36in Softbox in would that make the light softer with a little more wrap around to the background and use a 85mm lens on both and get the same results?
Love ur 5 minute boomers.. best most packed photog vids out there.. u even got in an ad and commentary... LOVE IT!
i see your videos untill the end of them and YESS i learn something from them
its almost incomparable quality but we have to factor in how travel and set up is...i have both a 36 and a 59 as well...i use the 36 more often as its so much more portable...but if i owned a photo studio where i could leave equipment up...i'd use the 59 more often

That Zeppelin looks very clean. All the way to the end.
Keep doing what you do, bro. I watch to the end b/c you're all in, and the content is on point. Let those who are mapping to shorter attention spans do what they do - it's all good, but understand that true knowledge comprehension takes time, and I'm good with that. Cheers!
Loving the crisp light coming from the Zeppelin.
Manny your videos are always useful, thanks very much💪
As you said short informative straight to the point videos 👌💪
Manny killer job bro! I’ll watch your videos over tik tok. It’s better to be more informative than skip steps. Keep the vids coming!
I needed that as I'm building my portable photo studio equipment.
Watched all the way through (skipping the sponsorship bit!). Very useful information. Thank you!
Great demonstration of the difference in output these two softboxes produce. 👏
Thank you for this comparison! Definitely, the Zeppelin is a go to for the studio but that 36" is just so versatile when on location. I don't leave home without it.
Clean light always 😎
Psshhh I don't even have Tik Tok and I never will. I love your "long" videos!
Thanks for comparing both. Very interesting!
The zeppelin on this girl 🤩👍🔥
I agree, the Zeppelin was amazing. And the shorter videos are my preference as well. Keep it up ☺️
The larger the diffuser, the more diffuse and natural the light is.
Zeppelin love the light out put on that ..🤘🏻
Thank you so much! I am starting to use external Flash, and this helps me choose the right one
I love a huge soft light. I go through the hassle of using it indoors and outdoors (lots of weights) depending on the vibe. I love my smaller lights too but that commercial look gets me dog.
Awesome!! Great work!! Reminds of studio work I did in the past.
I don't even own a camera outside of my cell phone and I watch all your videos 🤠
Id recommend getting a 2x3 silk on a pole and just buy umbrella's in diff sizes and color (silver, white, etc). Its like having any softbox you want basically
Tho its no parabolic
That soft light is magic 😀
It makes sense the 36in has a harsher light due to its size. I like the 59 inch better! I agree, it has more of a commercial feel. Great video! Thank you for the demo!
And I feel you on the short attention span, this world is getting more and more impatient and harder to entertain!

I make it to the end. You know what they say; "older men have stamina", lol. I need to have another cup of tea and flick the central heating on now! :)
This sure helped a lot I was thinking Of investing in 2 lights but one light with this 59 will do the job THANK YOU
Love your videos man! I stay to the end all of the time! Good stuff! Keep up the good work, I know it gets exhausting. cheers!
I learned that I need to invest in a 60" modifier!
Thank you Manny!
just got mine, it WAS NOT CHEAP lol.
That zeppelin is niiiiiice!!!
Now I feel like I need to pull out my wescott 7 footer to see what it look like. Love your vids man 💪🏽
I don't know what it is about your channel bro, but I really like your content. I feel like you're somebody I know teaching me this stuff. Soft light all the way.. yeah sometimes a lil drama its cool but man there's something about that clean soft look!
Here for the wrong reasons. But still satisfied.
Alway watch to the end manny and even the add has now finished because I type my comment so slow lol your welcome😜 keep it coming bro you the man 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Totally agree.!! It got that "commercial looks" & "slick". Thx for another great video. 👍😍
Wow! I think I may be picking up the zeppelin! Great review and photo results!
Started vibin hard when the beat dropped. Awesome video btw. Huge fan of those big softboxes!
Thank you so much! Informative and very helpful comparative video! I enjoyed as always and learnt from your video! God bless and good luck Manny!
Told you that we rock with you! Just check the comments.
I’d choose anything that goes along the vibe i’m in 😊
I appreciate your videos! People can keep there tiktoks. I want to spend my time learning from great content like this!
I have a similar softbox, I just kept it in my store since I got a smaller one. But after this video , an bringing it out... Thank you
Not to worry Manny, I always make it to the end of your videos. Thanks for the info.
I love the light from the Zeppelin.
What an age we live in when 5 minutes is considered a long video. LOL.
I'm seeing these 15 second vertical mode "shorts" on RUclips now and roll my eyes.
I prefer the zepelin look honestly… the soft light is just on point
Omg the zep just kicked ass
Hi Manby,
Love all your videos, very informative and very professionally produced, spot on,
Thank you again for making great content,
Pete 👍

Zeppelin.. looks amazing !. 36in octa is good as well.
The Zeppelin is amazing! Thank you for a great video Manny. I know it's older but I'm still learning the photography side of things.

Love your videos. Definitely dont always agree lol photography is all about personal creative choices anyway but I LOVE that you're here to teach and make photography accessible to a lot of people. Dont stop
The Zeppelin looks like a parabolic softbox, but has the softness like a huge white umbrella...
Great video as always Manny! I love seeing size comparisons, especially in-studio because it shows how much variety you can get, no matter what space you're shooting in
Manny I miss the BTS on location shoots! Personally as a photographer without a studio am not yet a fan of studio work, maybe one day!
Great comparison 👍
I can't believe 5 minutes is a long video now 😂
Bigger light source fills shadows from different angles.. That's why spot modifiers are so hard... What i'm still checking out is putting the light inside the parabolic...
I got you bro, i will always watch these videos. Keep it up man
i really aprieciate it... im not from tik tok laulz but some time im on instagram.... i always watch ur video fro start to finish
I learn so much from you man, you're appreciated, keep it up!🙏❤🇿🇦
Nice comparison! Those gigantic soft boxes do look great. :)
