It looks nice doesn’t it but when you exposure properly for the large, it’s so nice. I tried to keep the settings the same so it was a fair comparison. Thanks for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Hey Sam. Thanks for the great video. You convinced me to get the larger soft box for my for 2 reasons: 1) I'm 62 years old and, frankly, I can use all the help I can get, and; 2) You mentioned something nobody else talks about-- shadows. I've been struggling with shadows cast by some figurines I have in front of what's serving as my backdrop. However I light, it always looks kind of like nighttime. By softening those shadows with the larger soft box, I'm hoping to soften, or even eradicate, the shadows. So, that's what I think. If you have a moment, I'd love to see your response to my rationale. And thank you again for your informative, well produced, and very charming video.
Thanks for this breakdown. As someone new to the game, I was looking for a straightforward comparison of the softboxes, to save me some pain and $. Great video.
Thank you Thank you Thank you! You answered everything I was wondering about. So many people make videos that dont explain as thorough as you do. As an amateur and just starting out this was massive help to me. Thank you!
If you have white ceiling and walls, you can go with no soft box (or reflector) and turn the light around and just point it up at the corner of the walls and ceiling. How big it is would depend on how far away from the corner it is and would be up and approximately the 45 degrees over and up position with a really nice gradual fall off.
not if you want dark background as bouncing it will light the entire room. also if you have carperts or floors of different colors it affects your image.
I’m leaning towards the mini because of the den being narrow for my office, maybe having some sort of fill might work to make things more balanced. I’ve been looking for a video like this for the new studio thanks for all the gear help bro!! Great video 🤩
Perfect video Sam!!! I was looking for a good second opinion on sizes of a softbox... I was a freelancer assistant for 10 years here in Brasil (Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo), in that time I worked with some of the best photographers in the world, and I can totally say that with some experience. Perfect video man. About space, about considering the fill of the bounced light in the space on a small room... Advantages of a smaller softbox... Just perfect. Thank you! 🤘
So helpful! Has any of this changed as folks like Aperture have added LED panel softboxes? Seems like they may be different than the standard COB types you outlined here.
I have an umbrella on my light .. I use a black card to cust spill. I think I would like about a 1m size softbox. Just need to find one easy to set up. I don't want to have to assemble it if I move it. Good show!
I think I'll go for the larger difuser for that extra softness. I'm looking at getting a new set up and came across your channel. Keep up the good work man! Subbed 💪
Hey Sam, great videos. Was looking for some general advice and wondered if you could help me out. Was thinking a video call, if so what would be your rate per hr / 30 mins. Just looking to upgrade some kit and generally get a better look on the channel
Hi Joe. Thanks for watching. I’m pleased you enjoy the videos. You can book in for a 1-1 video call here www.sam-holland.com/product-page/one-on-one-mentoring-1-hour-session I look forward to seeing you soon 🤩🙏🏻🎥
I understand you prefer the bigger lightbox (I think I do too). But your bigger lightbox is the dome ii. What do you think about the Aputure 150? It's way bigger than the dome ii. What do you think is better?
I don’t know why but I prefer the mini softbox. It gives more volume to the scene and doesn’t spill so much and you could use more RGBs on the back to make more interesting the scene
Great video Sam - I think I'll go for both 😁! Just out of interest what are the light tubes you're using in the background 🤔? I had a look at your past videos but can't see a review of them. Cheers, and keep up the great work!
I like large. You can get large LED flat panels these days (for home/office lighting), I was wondering if any of them would work as a more built in lighting (maybe on an arm from a wall or celling?
Hey. Good point. I did some examples of those flat lights… Check this video out and let me know what you think - ruclips.net/video/lwdIw5pegCI/видео.html Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏🏻🎥
Funny how you released this video today and I was just testing out my LAOFAS U120 47.2" Softbox. I'm amazed how HUGE that softbox is and how much it lights around the subject and background. It works well in my office, but a little tight in my Theater Studio. I was thinking of getting the 35.4 inch version as well. I'll probably use that in tighter spaces or as a hair light like you were. Thoughts or experiences with those? Keep up the good work on your channel.
Awesome breakdown man, thank you. The large with the honeycomb is looking great. Are you using 60w lights there or brighter? Is 60 more then enough for a set up like yours?
Thanks brother! 🤩🙏🏻 that’s right. Using the Godox ULC60 now days. ruclips.net/video/BFlSjMp3zmk/видео.html Yeh man I think so. That large softbox gives you a bit extra brightness anyway. And it’s nice and close. Thanks for watching brother! 🙏🏻 hope you’re well
Was going to ask if you egg crate or not ? another cool video love my RC Smart Controller so looking forward to seeing what you think of the new one 😁😁
What would you recommend for travel? I'll be mainly making youtube videos, behind a desk. The led panels often give a harsh light, especially when glasses are on. Budget wise, I'd rather get something I can use for a while and that looks good without harsh lighting. So softboxes look the best, but are they portable enough? Thanks in advance.
I'm caught between buying the 80cm softbox and 95cm for my AD200 pro. Which one would you recommend I should buy for outdoor full body pictures and potraits?
I would say go with the size that best fits the space you're working with. Many companies make various sizes of softboxes so a small might not be enough and the large could be too big so then you could opt for a medium. As always your comparison shots make me laugh as you look somewhere between irritated and angry haha.
Hello :) do you think there is a difference between the 100cm and the 120cm? (Subject 1.5m/2m, 200w light, for a selftape so face and chest, 1.5m framing). Thank you 🙏🏼
Hello Sam , thank you for the video , I learn a lot with your channel , for me the mini Softbox will be ok for my work , big like 31 , great job again , have nice week.
I"m just a beginner in RUclips. I want to buy softbox. I just want simple small softbox.. Because you are correct. I have a small room and I want to use it as starterpack for my youtube videos. I just hope that lumetri gon do something about the output of the video.
Which do you prefer, mini or large??? Let us know.
the mini to be honest
It looks nice doesn’t it but when you exposure properly for the large, it’s so nice. I tried to keep the settings the same so it was a fair comparison. Thanks for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Very Informative
large w grid for sure

I prefer the mini, i prefer less spill on the background on my guitar playthroughs especially on a small space. Great video! Thanks for this!
Nice 👌🏻 both look great in their own way. Just preference and convenience. Thank you 🤩🙏🏻🎥

Not a good idea if you’re shooting portraits.
@@johanlundberg7786 Do explain
not if you want dark background as bouncing it will light the entire room. also if you have carperts or floors of different colors it affects your image.
In this specific application, the large softbox with the grid looked the nicest.
Thank you! 🙏🏻🤩🎥

Ah that’s ace man. Glad this video helped at the perfect time. Thanks for watching brother! 🤩🙏🏻🎥
I liked the look with the mini more than the large. :)
Perfect video Sam!!!

Yeah solid video there Sam. Large softbox is my go to for interviews and talking head. Always great to have both where possible 🤷♂️
Thanks Terry! Definitely! Both can compliment each other really well. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥
Great video, I have a small space and sort of think the mini with a small 60w light will be good enough. I guess I'll find out.
I have an umbrella on my light .. I use a black card to cust spill. I think I would like about a 1m size softbox. Just need to find one easy to set up. I don't want to have to assemble it if I move it. Good show!
5:03 Actually, since the background is bright, you have more separation from it without that second light.
I think I'll go for the larger difuser for that extra softness. I'm looking at getting a new set up and came across your channel. Keep up the good work man! Subbed 💪
Legend! Glad it helped. Thanks for watching 🤩🙏🏻🎥

Thank you ❤ finally simple straight to point video
This video was exactly what I needed. Thank you 🥂

Because of space I would go for the mini one. Very nice info.
Good choice. Can’t go wrong can you. The mini looks great 🤩👌🏻 thanks will
fantastic video, well organize and explained and great comparisons! Thank you very much!
Thank YOU 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Great video as always Sam 🙌🏼
Thanks Andrew! 🙏🏻🤩🎥 hope you’re well bro
Great video, the mini is probably what I’d go for but out of stock

Yeah sometimes egg, sometimes not. Depends what mood I’m in 😂 ah epic! Working on the vid as soon as the weather improves! 👌🏻🎥

Hi. Amaran do some small panels but come with softboxes. Give those a whirl. They still won’t be as soft as these but it’s a compromise
I learned something from this 👍
That’s amazing. I’m so pleased this video helped 🤩🎉 thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥🤩
For fitness content which you recommend?
great video man really helped me !!
Great video!!! Which softbox you can recomend me for GODOX SL100?
Mini … what size is mini ?
Large … what size would that be ?
Thx !
For outside …what would work best ? (Considering wind) etc !
Thank you !
so if I buy a very large softbox in my tiny room the risk is to have too much reflections bouncing from wall? because I like dark background
what size is the large and what size is the mini ? and it would have been nice if you had shown the softboxes as well.
Is this FJÄLLBO from IKEA in the background and aputure lights? I'm thinking of buying them.
No one ever mentions the lamp power. what power where you using on the lights in the softbox?
60w
Thanks!
Sam, what kind of softbox I can use for a compact light like the Raleno plv c80,
Hi. I’m not familiar with this light. Does it have a Bowen’s mount??
Awesome video!
Thank you! 🤩🙏🏻🎥

Useful
Bravo complimenti
mini purely due to the small space i'm working with.
Whats the mini softbox he uses
Laofas. Link should be in description 🙏🏻
I made a softbox with a new hinge mechanism. It covers all.
