That drill with the credit-card taped at the end made my day! So, that's how a handyman makes great soap! He reminded me of my twin brother...improvisation and simplicity!
He’s right to the point I like that some of these woman keep talking and talking about nothing….I like him..I appreciate you…thank you for sharing 👍👍👍👍
This was almost as good as watching a cooking show. Nice Work man! BTW you need to recruit sum of these guys asking about the boat & put them to work on it. Doubt they could handle working on a wood boat though.
I'm making some with olive oil, baking soda & coconut butter for Fathers Day in the nursery, currently sweating over it setting 😅 smells good but I only mixed it with a spoon & used a yoghurt pot as a mould so when we do it properly I think we'll be ok as mine currently has mostly set between fridge & freezer
I think it took longer cuz you didn't mix it enough, bring to full trace. I have never seen lye water added after 5 minutes, usually it's cooled 100 to 110 degrees, that may play a role in it.
Yes you can make soap using baking soda (NaHCO3) it's a mild alkali although it's not as efficient as NaOH (Caustic Soda aka Sodium Hydroxide) during this process you have to heat the mixture to encourage the saponification process and this will create Carbon dioxide (Co2) You have to be careful not to cause a volcano reaction. But you need a lye solution, before sodium hydroxide was readily available people used to create it themselves using ashes and lime. Sodium Hydroxide is totally safe to use, after the chemical curing stage and allowing to dry for three weeks any sodium hydroxide that has been used has long dissipated. I was worried at first before reading more into it, now ever since I've published this video I've continued to make my own soap using caustic soda which I use myself and give some to friends and family.
Can I ask a question? If you need a mask face protector gloves etc when using caustic soda what makes you think its safe to put all over your body? 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
If you've watched Fight Club you'll know how harmful Sodium Hydroxide is to our skin in it's raw form but once mixed with oils/fats and having gone through the saponification process it is harmless. It is necessary to create unified bars of soap. You could even use the soap after 24 hours of curing but we tend to wait about three weeks for the soap to harden fully. Lye has been used in soap production for over 4 thousand years.
I have made many batches since this video and neither myself or others have any issues using the soaps on our bodies. Hopefully my comment has helped you.
@@NaveenKumar-mi4zj After 4 weeks you can guarantee your soap is safe to use. You also need to wait 4 weeks so your soap has hardened and will last a longer duration of time.
Caustic soda is Sodium Hydroxide. You can buy it at most hardware stores and it can be also used to unclog a stopped up drain. Sodium hydroxide combines with the oils in a process called saponification. When that process completes all of the sodium hydroxide should be used up so you have to make sure to use enough oil to use all of it. If it's not all used up the soap could burn your skin. There are soap calculators available online which will tell you how much of each ingredient to use. Here's a link to one I use. www.soapcalc.net/calc/soapcalcwp.asp
I have since perfected the recipe. These are the measures I use each time. 453g Coconut Oil, 453g Olive Oil, 137g Sodium Hydroxide, 344 Distilled Water, (Rain water works too), 1 once Lavender Oil. You can choose how strong you want the frangrance. By calculation using a soap fragrance calculator. Light scent (1.7oz) 41g, Medium (2.20) 62g, Strong (2.94) 82g.

Nice I like the way you have kept it simple with minimal ingredients thanks!! I’ll try hope it turns out well
Best of luck! This recipe makes a great soap.
Wow so easy thank you! 😍👏🏽

I really liked your video. Your humble attitude 🙂

Loveeeed the drill xD lol
Nice soap

I agree. Lye was too hot. Unless you don't melt the coconut oil.
Nice
Caustic soda is caustic, right? Is that good for your skin? I read somewhere that you can use baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) ??
most of the recipe ive seen use baking soda , even by companies that mass produce it.
*No longer caustic after the chemical reaction.*

The drill 🤣 my dad made something similar with the drill for me to blend the soap 🤣
This is probably a silly question, but does it lather?
Yes very well

Gow much did you superfat it?
Nice video
Thanks
Just curious about something. Instead of a base (NaOH), can an acid be used instead to saponify?
love this , are you Irish ?
Thanks. Yes I am
Would this recipe work for a 2 lb soap mould? Cant tell but that seems to be about the size mould you used.
That's about right. I made by box to match the store bought soap box dimensions.
INice video - but I can easily spot that you didn't mix it well enough. The mixture when poured was waaay too liquidy...
Does it leaves the skin feeling soft.?
Yes it's a nice smooth soap which lathers well and leaves your skin soft
Thanks I need that .
After how many days can we use this soap?

Dime cual la fragrance q tu poneste? Y es para el banho este soap?
Lavanda
(Nearly four years later) How was the soap?
Fantastic. I've been a good few more batches since.
Your male thinking went super manly ...who needs exact measurments ? Classic dude right there!
In never mentioned the exact measurements in the video but I have listed them in the video description. Thanks for watching.
Essential oil brand??
I don't recall what brand I used. But any one will suffice. Just make sure it is 100%
What is caustic soda?? What happens if it gets left out? I just want to use coconut oil and olive oil

Can I used lye instead of baking soda?
I think caustic soda is another name for lye.
pour moi je ne sais pas comment sa fait le savon en fabrication avec les ingrédients, merci beaucoup pour la vidéo
👍👌👏
🥰👌🏻🤗

This soap makes foam or not?
Yes it makes a great foamy lather
You know jow to improvise
Hi can I get the recipe please 😊

Is that a cannabis plant growing behind your left shoulder?
No it's a bamboo of some sort
🌈💋
What about the boat
Not good son. Your like and lye did not saponify. I'm surprised you had any soap at the end. Good on you for trying though😊
I since have used a proper stick blender which works the best, The drill just wasn't powerful enough to bring it to trace
I still got lovely soap
@@LakesideProductions that's great. Why don't you invest in a stick blender? It will do a brilliant job of saponification.☺️
@@LakesideProductions just saw this. Good for you. Now make some great soap!😊
