    If this doesn't violate your personal comfort level, I would love to see a video about how a couple from Australia met and somehow became the owners of the largest private restoration project in France. Hollywood would call it a prequel. It must be a fascinating tale filled with incongruous twists and turns. Also in a more humorous note, I'm wondering if Felicity can remember the last time she spent a whole day without wearing work boots. Love your channel.

      @jeanne2583-w1n Месяц назад +4

      Those caps are protection for your feet. Some construction companies require their workers to wear them. Some cities require construction and other workers to do so.

    Q& A: I have enjoyed immensely seeing the restoration of the beautiful old spaces in this incredible chateau.
    Would you consider making a ‘behind the scenes’ video of how you and Tim live and cope with the ‘no shower’ etc situations? Your living quarters, adapting to France, have you made new friends? Hardships etc.

    I’m American. And have fallen in love with our equivalent of Edwardian Era homes, warm, cozy, rich wood outlined rooms made of different types of wood to create a beautiful effect with all kinds of depth and tones: the Crafsman. The Queen Anne Victorian. But the more I watch of this channel, the more I’m open to living in a grand stone chateau with a different goût du douillet…c’est à dire, à la comfort. Pas pour les papilles gustatives, mais pour l’âme. And how incredible that you’re keeping the original tommets for the requisitioned shower in the original maid’s quarters!
    Matthew from California, USA. I don’t know if you’ve already covered this in a previous video. But. How did you and Tim meet? And what was it like moving from Australia all the way to rural France?

    Yesterday my saviour came and installed the hot water service to my home and I now have 200 litres of hot water available to me at the turn of the tap. My grand old lady is only 111 years old, but she has never had one installed in her before. I still have some of the original wiring here to which as you note is very dangerous. The sparkie has been and made everything safe. I applaud you in your endeavours' in bringing your lady back to life. You have lived through so many challenges and you have so many more to go before the end is nye. Living with water damage, leaking roofs, lest not forget the disgusting smell that it creates, the dirt and every other unimaginable, that first shower you have in your home will be better than any fine bottle of Champagne, enjoy and don't forget the nice fluffy robes. Best wishes from Brittany, here's to another week of renovations. 🙂

My question is... does the French government help fund the restoration? Did you research what funding was available before taking on the purchase of Purnon? Also if a property is so highly historically listed and protected why would they let it fall into such disrepair? Thank you for all you are both doing and sharing your progress with all of us! The work of this remarkable young Australian couple is little short of heroic. My wife and I have restored a small Maison de Maitre in northern France, which itself has taken quite a number of years, but watching Pernon be restored , well. It is just amazing.. These fine Australians who expended fortune intelligence care competence and love to such a wonderful result makes these two people, for me, worthy of a national award by the French state for the immensity of their achievement and I hope one day they get just that.
    Superb.

      Hi Kate, we've mowed and trimmed the grass, tried to protect and manage the hedges and attempted to stay on top of the weeding. Beyond that we haven't restored the gardens as such. That will be a future phase of work. As always, thanks for your messages and interest in our journey!

And the small laundry near the bathrooms is a great decision for that space & liveability.

Hope this note finds you & yours well!! Stephanie Santa Fe, New Mexico everyone loves my book I received from you all!!

    Removing the lead paint, you should wear double headstrap masks. Theres a health risk to ingest lead contaminated dust. Château du Purnon is majestic at the very least. Admirable to take such a mammoth project to save this gorgeous building! 😊

    •  21 день назад +1

      Thanks for your message. The lead paint being removed in this video is being stripped using a product called SmartStrip. The paint is transformed into a paste that can be removed wearing eye protection and gloves. This is demonstrated in this video which was produced at the chateau with the involvement of a lead paint removal expert: ruclips.net/video/PAfqPMFc3RQ/видео.html

    The chateau & property will need an ‘income’ to continue her life, have you thought about how this will be possible ? Given how precious & fragile so much is ? Will it solely be outdoor only events, temporary marquees etc etc
    Congratulations to you both. & all of the amazing master craftspeople!

    I am astounded by your calm. My 120 yo house in Illinois is not considered historic so I can make handicapped friendly modifications so I can age in place but finding craftsman who don't do more damage at high cost... That's with being citizen and native speakers!! Have been discouraged by so many people who don't care about restoration and preservation... Then there's my passion for sustainable agriculture and the awe of all the land and outbuildings. Just WOW! If I didn't have myasthenia gravis and need to finish my own house I would be pleading to help in grounds and outbuildings as unpaid hobbit, gardener, animal loving fiber artist. If you ever come to Illinois I would love to meet you.

Merci, merci.
