96/97 is weird because we aren't really either generation. I watched Rugrats and Animaniacs, but also Phineas and Ferb and Brandy and Mr Whiskers. In the grand scheme of things, it's stupid and pointless.
I’m a semi-older millennial (went to high school in the early 2000s). I’ve caught myself grumbling about Gen Z over the same crap for which Boomers used to criticize us. It gave me some healthy perspective to just relax and laugh.
I honestly agree with this so much. I have some gripes with Gen Z, but I have some gripes with *every* generation, including my own. I’m probably a just a little bit older than you, I skipped an early grade, and was in high school for the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Having close to a whole generation age gap between my sister and I, who has always been one of my best friends, I’ve been told I’m a “Millennial/Gen X Cusper” (sounds a bit too much like astrology to me) because I grew up with and loved a lot of the things that my sister did, and we came from a liberal hippie family that didn’t act like Boomers, and in fact thought most of them were assholes. I like my skinny jeans because they’re more comfortable to me. I don’t even have a hair part because I usually have bangs and like to tease my hair if I’m not wearing a wig. (80’s much?) None of that shit matters; just do you. In my lines of work, I spend time and communicate with all sorts of people from other generations, and only two instances have really given me a slap back about Gen Z, because I’m not used to it, having two super sweet Gen Z nieces. One, while trying to give genuine constructive criticism to someone, which I realised later may have been a little harsh, someone else jumped all over me and told me that everything I said was untrue, to check my facts and get woke, other rude things, etc. Another time, I responded to a video essay that I thought was really well done, and again, someone other that the original creator was like “TLDR; 16-35 is f*cking old.” Which baffled me. Yes, I tend to leave longer comments, because I’m not going to bother with leaving a comment and not truly say what’s fully on my mind. But I never said anything about being old. I don’t feel old. I don’t think I’m old. No one looks at me and thinks I’m old - often people think I’m *part of* Gen Z, even though it isn’t my stage to stand on any more, it’s not my spotlight. I just stated that I related and appreciated what the person had discussed, even though I was a bit outside of the 16-35 year old audience he was directing his piece to. Both times I got kind of irritated but in the end, I was just like “Thanks, that doesn’t really hurt, if you’re hurting, I hope it’s not for long because this kind of thing isn’t worth it. Cheers.” Even two years after the posting of this video, it still feels like any small step could add firepower to an unnecessary and really dumb war. In just a few years, more of us than ever will be working together and age won’t be anything but a number to yet another generation. It’s a part of the cycle. This comment is also really long. I want to say that I’m sorry, but I’m not. I’m a published writer and video game creator. I don’t have the guts to get behind a camera and have a RUclips channel (and therefore, I commend anyone who does, that is not using their platform in a toxic way). My words and my art are what I’ve got to work with. No one has to read or engage with my comments if they don’t want to. But sometimes I think it’s nice to be able to tell someone, regardless of generation, what they did was great and not have to squeeze it into the character maximum of a Tweet. So, I’m going to live my life and do what I do, maintaining whatever cool I have left, and hope I still get the chance to meet cool new people, continue writing and illustrating, and taking things in stride, skinny jeans, skinny legs, and all. (No one worry or sound the alarm, that joke was for me; I love dad jokes *and* Tom Robbins.). 💖
@user-fv9se5op4g So do I. I personally think it’s too early for the revival, as I’m still waiting for the 90’s revival to stick (which I’ve come to realize probably won’t ever happen, because those of us who lived though and loved the nineties will never truly let it go - sometimes I think I’m forever living in 1992 and I’m totally okay with that - people will be trying to pull the 90’s out of our cold, dead, hands), but the music of the early aughts, in particular, especially after 2002 was just amazing. I still listen to it often, and am always [probably a bit overly] excited when I hear it used in a film or series. It gives me a feeling of nostalgia that’s just a little bit different from the others, but I can’t seem to place my finger on why.
current gen z that was born in the early 2000s, yeah nothing changed lol. I've gotten annoyed by kids 6-7 years younger than me and I feel like a grumpy old man. trends go in and out and kids will always think adults are lame
The lady singing about eminem says some shit like, "listen up little kiddies, this guy was around before you were here." Yup, that's how people being older than you works.
this "war" is literally so embarrassing on both sides. nobody even rlly cared if ppl wear side parts or skinny jeans its just a preference then all these stupid articles came out about it
Those articles aren't even written by educated people, most of the time. Y'know, journalists and such. People who tend to give a fuck about what they write.
Especially millenials shouldn't care. We had and still have so manny different subcultures, everyone looked different when we where teenagers, we still do especially Goths and Metalheads
Exactly! Older people have complained about younger people since the dawn of time! Like in the 60s when the Silent Generation complained about young boomers being hippies or whatever
As a member of Gen Z, I can confidently say I’ve never met anyone from my generation who legitimately cares about middle parts vs side parts, skinny jeans vs all other styles of jeans, etc.
I'm a Genx'er and it's wild to me watching this "Generation (xyz etc)" unfold over the past 40 freaking years. When what I think everyone's missing is that the original name was a derogatory term, it was meant to brand us, and the media onslaught was intense for our formative years. Just like you. That X a lot of my generation simply took as a badge of pride for whatever it is we were supposed to have done wrong. For life, basically disappear us from the table, and it did. It's wild to me that every generation is being named and shamed in the same way. It just serves to make us further atomize and disintegrate. Cue Robert Smith please.
When you take away the “feud” entirely and you realize it’s all just fabricated so they can get hate clicks and go viral it becomes even MORE cringey. Anytime I see Tiktoks I can’t help but think how much the creator wants to be famous.
But isn't it cringy that Eddy knows that yet STILL takes this BS seriously. Unless... He's still complicit in hoping on a dumb trend just to dunk on it for the 'content'.
As a young millennial (1994), I’m old enough to relate to some parts of my generation, and young enough to relate to Gen Z. I’m also convinced 90’s kids are their own generation. Also, down with the Boomers
@@auxorion yeah that’s the thing. It’s all stupid. Everyone is hypocritical and it’s pointless to make fun of people for wearing a piece of fabric that you don’t like.
I am a millenial, my brother and sister are gen z because they are 13 and 11 years younger than me. My sister made a joke about my side parting. I was like honestly you should see how bad i look with a middle parting 🤣 just do what suits your face shape, fuck anyone else's opinion 😅
This whole "feud" feels really reactionary and fake to me. I haven't seen anybody actually say that skinny jeans and side parts are out. It feels like this bullshit escalated out of fucking nowhere.
I’m gen z and I only see this “war” online. I’ve never heard ANYONE in person complain about millennials having side parts or skinny jeans or anything like that. I thought it was just Buzzfeed trying to create generational drama what with all the articles they’ve written about it. It’s all just really stupid.
Nah, that's universal. I'm 28 and my zoomer stepsister is in college now and recently said "adulting is hard" on Facebook and I physically recoiled. It's more about "embarrassing people" than "millenials" or "zoomers."
See this is why I'm like sit down zoomer I've hated millennials longer than you I had to deal with morons in highschool who thought paying car insurance was peak "adulting" and I wanted to scream.
As a Gen Z kid in middle school 10+ years ago, I remember disliking millennials & getting annoyed with being associated with them and wondering when the distinction between my generation and theirs would be more acknowledged lol. An easy way to think of it is a millennial is someone who can remember 9/11 and and life before the turn of the millenium (2000), and if you were a little kid at that time or younger and can't remember then you're gen Z. I think the only reason gen Z is getting more focus now is because all of gen z are young adults and teenagers and can actually make their own money and buy stuff now.
i think, as part of gen z, it’s embarrassing for millennials to get to pissed off about what a teenager says, but it’s also weird for gen z to trash on 30 year old’s for what they did as kids
@@TheLastMillennials not really? that’s mainly gen alpha which is considered by most to be 2012-present. most gen z-ers from 2000ish-2007 didn’t play fortnite too much
@@OGMagaro Gen Alpha are toddlers, most are not even born. Gen Z ends in 2015 but Bloomberg news said gen Z ends in 2016. Born after the year 2000 is considered part of iGeneration (aka Generation Z/FORTNITE KIDS). It is so-called due to the technology that existed during the time of their births: iPhone, iPod, iPad, iTunes, Wii, etc, and the way that they are used: individualized. Zoomers! tiktokers, fortnite kids, tide pod babies, jake paulers, logan paul kids and streamer twitch kids are those born between 2001-2009 and beyond. They all grew up on the same stuff. If you want more facts check my playlists on my channel
Also tbh, as a gen z I completely see most gen z that are trashing millennials are just doing it to egg them on because(let’s be honest) it kind of hilarious, and stupid, how angry millennials get over a bunch of teenagers on tic tok
Conclusion: skinny jeans cause school shootings. Proof: have you ever personally seen a school shooter who didn’t wear skinny jeans? No, and therefore all terrorists wear skinny jeans.
As a Millennial, gen z isn't the issue. It's the older generations who made us all poor while mocking us for being lazy and entitled. Solidarity, my Gen Z homies
@@sweetbunnybun To high schoolers, pretty much everyone who is 28(ish) and up are “old” plus when you’re that age it’s really the only comeback or power you have over someone older. And when the reasons for millennials appearing old are that trivial, it’s pretty laughable how worked up the older millennials seem to be.
I hate both sides but the last lady’s argument is weird af “you can’t cancel eminem, he’s older than you!” I dont support cancel culture but is she saying we can only cancel people 22 and younger?
Also, he HAS been "canceled" many times ie by his many scandals and controversies like he's pretty problematic and we've been known since he jumped onto the scene lol
it's a damn joke anyway. no one's "cancelling" eminem and "cancel culture" is a fucking meme. literally, all it is is people calling out rich people, to almost universally zero effect because, surprise! *they're rich.* i'm so fucking over it dude.
there were a bunch of articles with gen z specifically ripping on millennials. i think millennials are just sick of getting it from the older and younger generations.
Millennials beef with boomers because boomers destroyed the economy and planet. Gen z is beefing with millennials because they like harry potter and millennials are just having a little fun by making videos responding to it and the gen z and millennial thing is all fake anyway just to get views.
@@intense79nick It seems like both sides say "we're having fun" but both are actually deeply irrationally emotional and angry when they do this stuff. Also, insanely broad terms. "The millennials" and "The Gen Z" are not doing anything to eachother. It's a couple of adult children and a bunch of children who think they're adults getting hurt feelings over what some articles said about style based on at absolute most like 3 interviews or a vague survey.
Like Eddy pointed out, very few millennials have yet to enter government positions where we could affect real change. GenZ and Millenials are both still owned by the same old establishment masters. Fighting each other is merely a distraction - and only helps our owners.
This whole “war” is like if a 9 year old called their 30 year old aunt a poopy and then the aunt proceeds to get genuinely offended, stumbles to grab a mini Casio piano to sing over the crappy built in metronome up in the kids face about how young they are causing the 9 year old to shout back about how old she is causing a ruckus while every other family member at the table is disgusted and confused.
I'll be 32 in a week and change and that piano bit had me cringing so hard I got a headache. If I ever head somebody gen z criticizing skinny jeans, my first response would be "you haven't seen shit until you've seen Tripp pants."
the millennials in these responses really think saying "you're young" is some sort of insult. obviously all of this is done by a small portion of both generations so it is probably less of a big deal than social media makes it seem, but it is definitely a bit frustrating to see generations arguing over the stupidest shit. and it is even more frustrating to see some millennials who were just as young not too long ago, dismissing zoomers because they are young now. like, when I was a kid, I fucking hated it when adults would do that shit to me, but it seems like some people my age have forgotten that feeling or decided that instead of ending the dumb cycle, it is their turn to be weird. anyway, if I ever make a parody to all star by smash mouth where I insult gen z, you all know what to do with me.
tldr: millennials that we’re treated like shit by older generations because they were younger have seemingly forgot how it felt to be belittled for just being young and are continuing the cycle by insulting gen z by saying they’re young
"Gen Z states that skinny jeans and parting your hair to the side are no longer cool" Me a gen Z currently wearing skinny jeans and a side part: ofuckofuckofuck
Whoever said skinny jeans and side parts aren’t cool anymore??? :( Maybe they misunderstood cause people just *prefer* middle parts and baggier jeans now
I’m a teenager and I don’t understand where “side parts are lame” is coming from, I just gotta say this but, literally half the people I know with parted hair have a side part
The younger generation will always think they're cooler than the older generation, and the older generation will always think they know better than the younger generation.
"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers" - Kenneth John Freeman (1907) paraphrasing Hellenic attitudes towards children, 600-300 BCE
Can't relate from first hand experience. I remember kids my generation (same as uploader) used to look up to people in their 20s and sometimes even early 30s. Potentially xillennials and core millennials, I'm guessing? Barely knew anyone that genuinely thought our generation was somehow cooler than those generations of people. Many popular things in media were from the 90s in the 2000s so I grew up becoming influenced by it. Many kids used to pose as a 90s kid online and making their age older thinking it was the cool shit to do. The boomers were not seen as cool. But that's probably because they were grumpy middle aged teachers' typical age.
It’s part of the natural cycle of finding your identity when you’re a teen. Who am I, where do I stand etc. But a few of fellow millenials took it as a personal attack. Sigh
Just found your channel and love it. This video was SO needed. I have been saying these exact same things even back when it was my generation (GenX) vs Millennials. No one bothered to talk about Gen Z because they were small children and I don’t even think their generation had a name. People are just so angry. It’s in everything, and it sucks. I’m 45, and I don’t care if a 15 year old thinks I’m an old man. They do, and I am lol. Well kinda. Good stuff, new subscriber here.
“Hey Eddie, play the cringey soccer mom making her Eminem parody.” Is on the top of the list of things I never asked for, received, and still wouldn’t ask for.
I skipped that part. I've seen it once before and I never EVER want to see it again. It inspires such visceral cringe I'm just not strong enough to handle
I feel like a confused middle child. "Older" gen Z so I'm an adult and confused why grown ass adults are beefing with actual teenagers. Pathetic. I'm 99' so gen Z .
I'm 2004, so I'm on the higher end, but I'm someone who stays off of TikTok and I didn't even know this was a thing. And now that I do, I wish that I didn't
Remember when "Only 90's kids will remember this" was a thing and so many people were like "oh lets's not be like this when we're older wow our generation is going to be so much better" and now they're both being petty as hell.
To be fair, it's most likely a vocal minority. I think most millennials and (probably even more) gen z people don't care at all about the differences of their generations
@@sweetsour4375 Yeah, compared to other generations definitely. Millenials and Gen Z are both fond of internet culture for example, sure the topics have changed over time, but the social dynamics are kinda similar imo. If you look at Boomers on the internet, you can clearly see that they perceive the internet and memes in a different way
It's legitmately one of the most embarrassing things I've ever witnessed online. Like I'm a millennial and my older son just barely missed the cutoff for being gen z, I'm not about to fight my child because he says my pants are stupid.
I'm a millenial and back then we were always seen as the young naive generation that has no idea. I think some millennials just realised the first time when that came up that the're getting older. Childhood, teenage years and your twenties have now passed. Thats why they made this thing bigger than it needed to be.
Yall cmon why can't we just agree to denounce the cringy people of each generation and reclassify them in the "cringe jail" where most of the boomers are, and just move on
This "generation war" happens with every new generation and EVERY TIME this happens the newer generation is like "I'll never be like THAT" and then when another gen comes and criticizes their childhood/something they're nostalgic about, they freak out and do this kind of shit.
@@TaddiestMason Yeah, seems like the ones getting hurt are the 80's babies for the most part. I was born in 91 and I actually have a lot in common with Gen Z. And I just don't see the point in arguing with kids.
I don’t understand how this happened. Like Gen Z and Millennials were all friends online and then out of nowhere they were fighting. Not to mention I never noticed anyone try to cancel Eminem.
Eminem had a song with violent lyrics about killing a woman and Gen Z wants to cancel him for that. While millennials support him coz his music's been like that since the beginning, especially with his character 'Slim Shady'.
I genuinely feel more insulted (as a millennial) at the insinuation I would participate in a battle with Gen Z while there are still boomers around. I have to pick my battles and I'm booked up for another 20 years.

Newsflash: Skinny Jeans were never cool, even back in the 50's. I remember the say I first saw them, I threw up in my mouth. My high school cafeteria was never the same since. Even Jncos were better.
I just think it’s weird that the millennials are contributing to this at all, like yes both sides are fighting a nonexistent battle, but these are adults fighting literal children. Children will always criticize their elders, so it’s weird when adults get offended and act like they didn’t do the same thing when they were just 5-10 years younger lol
There are always people who resent and don't necessarily understand the newer one. You'll see it in 10 years with Gen Z targeting Gen A once they're hitting adulthood. It happened with Gen X to me 10 years back. Internet obviously also enhances it.
Dude, most "clapbacks" I saw from millennials, which are far fewer than gen z "roasts", are just harmless jokes, can we stop with this "they're targeting children" spiel once and for all? A harmless joke never hurt anyone... Also because most tik toks from gen z are made by 18+ people aaand... I still don't see how people are calling 18+ adults "little kids"... Like that's weird
depending on when you were born, 24 is far from a child. i considered myself an adult at 14. I had a job, had a girlfriend (i was doing adult things with), no curfew, partying, driving.
Ikr they are like "X" is a millennial/gen Z and they did this, so? They did that because they was talented not because they was a millennial/gen Z and you didn't do anything did u then shut up.. let the people who actually did it talk

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers"

Potentially xillennials and core millennials, I'm guessing? Barely knew anyone that genuinely thought our generation was somehow cooler than those generations of people.
I've only seen this "beef" on tiktok and in buzzfeed articles
yeah tiktok is where gen z is. Its a pretty one sided "beef" though

Millennials grew up watching shows and movies where the protagonist either sings or dances to “stick it to the bully” so that’s the only way they know how to combat this

To be fair it started long before us. e.g. Grease, Footloose, West Side Story, etc. That being said I do enjoy a good musical fight.
