I did that once during a PBS fundraiser. Probably interrupted sesame street or something and he said "I want to talk to tour parents." I told my mom but she didn't come to listen 😅

y'all acting like consumerism, corporatism or capitalism has or could ever hurt a single living soul, let alone the most vulnerable members of our society! this is unheard of! its like how the old saying goes: "whe let me die lol
They need to stop targeting advertising to kids. It's so messed up. Update: Just saw the part about them making kids RUclipsrs into global franchises. Super gross and exploitative and should be illegal to use kids that way.
The current media thinks kids are dumb. But from older shows, we can see that kids can follow plots and learn from complex scenarios. Take a look at Charlie Brown, Hey Arnold, even more current ones like The Amazing World of Gumball, and many others. Kids can follow a story, and they aren’t gonna learn from hearing words they already know and watching crap that treats them as if they don’t know what conflict is.
It’s insane to me how society never learns the dangers of exploiting children for entertainment and the story continues to happen. It happened with the Olsen twins, we’re watching it unfold with jojo siwa, and Ryan is that exact story waiting to happen
truly the dangers of unregulated mediums. we could not crack down faster on child exploitation on youtube, but youtube brings the mega hammer down on cursing/other unsavory content to get in bed with advertisers. shows their eyes are after the money...
They don’t “learn” because too many sick people are benefiting from the trauma it causes. There are RINGS of organized …crime that benefit off of child exploitation. They have gov officials, policeman, Hollywood directors. Not a conspiracy theory either. It’s straight up conspiracy and every once in awhile, an arrest happens to soothe the masses but they won’t put a legitimate stop to it because it’s lucrative. Trust . The people that could put a stop to this exploitation would if they gave a crap.
i hate the idea of referring to a child as a “franchise” (also fun fact! they stole a mobile game, dash tag, from a company called wildworks, and literally just turned the main character into ryan. that’s literally the only difference, everything else is fucking identical)
"The main Avenger is paying for the exploitation of a child. I don't remember that in Iron Man!" thats because it didnt happen until spider-man homecoming
That poor kid. More people need to see this. What ever happened to actually entertaining the kids with a well thought out plot that also educates them?
Even the TV shows that were made to sell toys were better than this. There was still a plot. You bought the toys because they were cool but also because the show was cool! they had to earn that.
I don't know why but it really hit me when Eddy said that all Ryan wanted to do was make a few videos with his mom and dad. Really sad they used that excitement to fuel a company
Interesting fact: the FTC has a rule with toy commercials and the like that the toy(lets say Spongebob) cannot be played during the same TV show(Spongebob) because children can not tell the difference between the two, they get the same entertainment satisfaction from both and can not tell any difference
I remember being a kid and explicitly being able to tell the difference though. Were commercials often entertaining? Sure, they're made to be that way to catch kids' attention to make them want the item being advertised. Regardless, I really don't see how restricting when a commercial plays would make a difference; they're pandering to children using their favorite characters either way.
@@AK-yc9xz I could also tell the difference. But, if you played an ad for a spongebob toy/movie while I was watching the show I would probably have thought about the commercial more. Otherwise, I might tune it out.
Vash the Flash Stampede the thing is, when we were kids, commercials weren’t complete shows. Like, the closest you could get were the animated shows that you could buy a toy later, but now you have a companys name being said on a tv show they love, over and over, saying it’s amazing. it’s like brainwashing them into wanting that item
My biggest fear for children being exploited like this is them being given the riches before they can fully realize that they where exploited and then being detached from society to the point where they never realize what happened
Imagine growing up, and noticing you spent your entire life as an advert. Then you complain and some documentary gets made by you and boom, someone just made money off of you again.
Can we also talk about how weird it is that these little kids are being shown a real kid in a context that sells Ryan’s unboxing personality as genuine and then being shown that same kid being presented as a superhero?
He'll probably be a depressed kid, obsessed with social media. He will do drugs and such and will never have a future because he will be too old for his crappy youtube channel

The real questions for his parents is What’s gonna happen when he realizes? What happens when he grows up?/what happens when he grows out of it? Also I wonder how the channel will affect Ryan’s friendships, relationships and mental health in the future and even now
Yeah except they were teens, not kids as young as Ryan, meaning that they probably had at least some semblance of understanding what they're getting into. Also, as far as I remember, in productions with the Olsen twins there was no blatant, outright product placements
@@nob2243 the Olsen twins have been on the screen since they were in diapers. I am not exaggerating watch the show full house from the first episode then you will see them as babies who couldn't even walk yet

I’ve seen interviews with them talking about how they love working and don’t even want to be like normal kids, like of course they didn’t, they didn’t know anything else, they’ve been working since before the had object permanence.
It's sad because we all already know damn well how the child star song and dance goes. He's either gonna get bullied incredibly hard at school for being 'different and famous for his toy shows' or he's gonna grow up like the oslen twins having no idea what it's like to be a person, because he spent literally his entire childhood making content and working. @@bestcatowner8711 worst part is that normally a child actor can usually bounce back after their teen years. Look at Macaulay culkin. He was a child star, he later laid low during his teen years then bounced back as an adult using his child star days as leverage. Using notoriety to help his career as an adult. But the thing is that as a kid he actually appeared in films. He actually acted. Ryan won’t be able to bounce back because his “career” was just he himself playing with toys. When he grows up at most they’ll be some talk show that’s like “hey it’s Ryan but he’s an adult! How cool.” He won’t ever find a job because of his time on the internet. His parents are going to rob him (just like culkin to continue to use him as an example) of money that realistically should be his and his life is going to suck because he’s missing out on a crucial part of life. Those developmental days as an infant toddler and child are super important and I’m sure he gets a bit of time off camera but given how much content the parents seem to be pushing out he probably isn’t getting enough time off camera to be himself... Poor kid. Never would I have thought that a child playing with all the toys he’d ever want would damn them in the long run.... the internet has truly opened Pandora’s box to some of the most insane ballocks of all time...
the strangest thing about all of this to me is how since this video was made, the line between disney+ and hulu has blurred so much. disney+'s original intention was to be kid-friendly which led to some bizarre choices that reeked of bigotry - specifically refusing putting content they deemed "inappropriate" for a "family audience" on disney+ and making hulu their "more adult" service. yet as of july 2022, ryan's show is still on hulu, and disney+ has MA-rated tv. not sure where this is going, but that business model is a whole mess and affects entire production teams who can lose their platform if not tailored to disney's standards of "appropriate." (i know this video came out before disney+ was created and right after disney acquired fox/hulu, but it's still bizarre how it's progressed.)
The worst part is, almost all the young movie stars grow up to lead a terrible life and die at around 30. I have heard of so many child stars growing out of their industry and having nowhere to go and end up commiting suicide. It's so sad. They really need to tighten the laws on media platforms because there are so many criminals getting away scott-free.

Also I think stuff like movies or commercials the only thing kids can be the main character I think putting them on tv should be banned. Edit: Maybe minors can be main characters on a show but probably make them film after school hours but not late-night

the scene with the butch fartman characters going to carls jr is literally a parody of wierd pervasive ads targeted at kids but done totally unironically and that for real scares the shit out of me
What makes it scarier is once these kids grow up, especially ryan with how big his audience is, the loss of their marketability as a child is gonna be placed on their shoulders. Their parents and sponsors are gonna place blame on them, shame them for not being cute and young anymore. For not wanting to sit in front of a camera and play with toys anymore, wanting to hang out with friends etc. it scares me what those parents are gonna turn to once their kids get older. Will they keep trying to film their lives, their vulnerable moments? Will they sell their childs likeness to companies even when theyre teenagers? Ryan isnt the only one whos had his likeness basically turned into a logo for businesses that are out of their control. I used to work at target and soooo many brands on toy shelves nowadays are just some random kids face, they get dolls that look like them, play sets etc. Idk how its gonna impact them years down the line feeling like theyre worthless now bc their parents cant manipulate them anymore and millions of kids dont watch them anymore. Its gonna massively harm their mental health for sure. It reminds me of kids who grow up with parents who pressure them to be perfect and that their appearance is the most important thing. That really hurts you in the long run. Its not gonna end once these kids grow up, their parents are just gonna look for the next best thing to manipulate for their financial benefit.

Yeah. I agree. It should of been just him playing and making story’s personally. The fact they turn it into a brand is disturbing.
Interesting fact: the FTC has a rule with toy commercials and the like that the toy(lets say Spongebob) cannot be played during the same TV show(Spongebob) because children can not tell the difference between the two, they get the same entertainment satisfaction from both and can not tell any difference
Nerd city talked about this in his jake Paul video.

What’s worse is that the only thing that makes him marketable is that he’s a kid playing with toys, when he starts to grow up he’s gonna fall so far from fame it’s gonna just be sad. He may have more money than anybody here in this comment section but in due time his life will fall harder than any of us could imagine.
How cool.”
He won’t ever find a job because of his time on the internet.
Poor kid. Never would I have thought that a child playing with all the toys he’d ever want would damn them in the long run.... the internet has truly opened Pandora’s box to some of the most insane ballocks of all time...
the strangest thing about all of this to me is how since this video was made, the line between disney+ and hulu has blurred so much. disney+'s original intention was to be kid-friendly which led to some bizarre choices that reeked of bigotry - specifically refusing putting content they deemed "inappropriate" for a "family audience" on disney+ and making hulu their "more adult" service. yet as of july 2022, ryan's show is still on hulu, and disney+ has MA-rated tv. not sure where this is going, but that business model is a whole mess and affects entire production teams who can lose their platform if not tailored to disney's standards of "appropriate."
(i know this video came out before disney+ was created and right after disney acquired fox/hulu, but it's still bizarre how it's progressed.)
In my opinion, only people the ages of 17+ should be able to be on camera
@@marleesuarez7162 yeah
And like if theres a child they are NOT in a limited contract. More like they are in a child labour law contract but none of that 'they cant leave BS'
I filmed a tv show as a minor and I think that the laws just need to be different. The forced 15 minute breaks were more annoying than anything tbh.
Honestly they should make like minors film only on the weekend scenes with children on the weekend yeah its hard but its better than nothing and probably not the most efficient. Also I think stuff like movies or commercials the only thing kids can be the main character I think putting them on tv should be banned.
Edit: Maybe minors can be main characters on a show but probably make them film after school hours but not late-night
I think that any video where the a kid under 13 is the main focus of the video should have there monetization turned off

Johnny hilly Billy bo but definitely in a good way
Puvendran Pillay How dare you question our cu- I mean best content creator on youtube
This makes me feel like we're living in a dystopian future. If no one stops this that's what's going to be reality for everyone! (actually that's only how I feel tho)
You: "Eddy with a 'y'"

@@arsindmp9202 I knew somebody was going to make a predictable joke
Fun fact, Gen Alpha started in 2015, so they’re upfront about targeting 6 and under kids, not even 8 years old, so pocket.watch uh...
We live in a society
I thought gen alpha started in 2013

Gonna be honest, PBS kids is God TEIR children's programming
Indeed
gotta say no. They used to be, but I'm not sure about now.
@@voidofspaceandtime4684 Really? Could you please give an example, I haven't been on the network in some years.
@@CorruptedN they still make great cartoons for kids. I baby sit for my nieces and nephews and they watch it. They still play old cartoons as well as play new cartoons.
@@011mph thats still good :D
In Norway, advertising to children is illegal
youre mother 2 lol
But in the U.S. of A?
Yeah, we’ll probably pass a similar law in 40 years.
I fucking hate this country with its backwards ass ideals and blind patriotism
It’s illegal here in the US as well but it’s not properly enforced
So no toy adverts at all?
SparklyDream how tf does that work?
Fun fact! In the files of the racing game, among other files with Ryan's face textures, which change for different emotions, is a bloody scarecrow looking face with sewn over eyes and mouth
Matt can u knock out the devs pls
According to another comment they just copied a game called Dash Tag and just replaced the sprites for the playable character's to Ryan. They most likely didn't even bother checking anything else.
Do you have an article with this or something? I’d like to read about that
Proof? I wanna see this shit
What the fuck are companies doing? Smoking some bullshit crack?
I can't wait until these kids sue the absolute living hell out of these adults
imagine if steven universe was just a paid ad for a jewelry company
Okay that would make a lot of sense
**sad DOVE noises**
Inside my Gaping Bumhole I think the DOVE thing is more of a publicity stunt rather than direct marketing. Amethyst doesn’t eat soap and say how smooth it is.

It's already a big ad for homosexuality
The Carls Jr ad thing actually made me physically cringe, and that's not often it happens.
That put a terrible taste in my mouth. It felt so scummy man 😖
It made me cringe too and really uncomfortable.
Yeah, it felt like something you would see as a satire, you would never think people would actually stoop that low.
Part of me feels like the Butch Hartman Carl’s Jr. ad is where the souls of evil cartoons go when they die
I remember being like six and watching these guys, now they're sellouts
i feel like this poor kid is gonna resent his parents once he's old enough to fight for himself. Like this poor kid has a show on nickelodeon, and it's some of the saddest stuff ever because he doesn't even look like he enjoys it
Yea i bet once he’s of age and an instant multi-Millionaire with no strings attached as he’ll look totally different and socially unrecognizable. He’ll probably just go buy a small country to have a tantrum. What a shity life. How could his parents do that too him. Set him up for life... awful.
happy to be here Yeah when he’s 30-death and still fucking models he’s definitely gonna be mad his parents encouraged him to open toys a couple hours a day when he was a kid.
His mom was in jail for shoplifting
@@Charles.Howard the money isnt even his.. its literally his parents money. and his parents are already forcing a child to do full time work so theyre obviously terrible people. it probably sucks being forced to work every day when youre EIGHT YEARS OLD, i think youre forgetting that
@@Charles.Howard sell your kid as a brand for money
He’ll be fine if he has money later tho. Money has never caused problems for Ryan and his family
No way
I have a feeling when Ryan grows up he’s gonna go full jeanette mcurdy and expose his parents and I cannot wait for that day
Eddy getting his tripod stuck is the most relatable shit ever
Didn't realize I was spelling his name wrong this whole time.
Sorry Yddie.
you fucking idiot its "eddie with a y" jesus try harder next time
lmaooo ur all wrong its just 'yyyyyy'
Whoosh
It’s so weird to see Butch’s animation style in such a weird children’s advertisement. Is a similar feeling to seeing Daffy Duck dressed as a nazi or a parade of doctor sues characters marching in retaliation against nazi Germany.
I grew up with the kid's show octonauts. A show I still love to this day. I highly recommend this TV show to kids. Also expect some becoming marine biologists in a few years. But these new kids TV stuff is literally just profiting off the innocence of children
My kids are being raised on straight PBS Kids just like I was dammit

We should be teaching 'recognising paid advertisements' is schools.
Media literacy
In most places, childers aren't sent to school until at least 5 so it wouldn't help those cute little 4 year olds. And they already have so much to pack into the school day! Their wee brains would explode!
@@carysbebard3690 it's on the parents fully when it comes to under fives. Parents need to be paying attention to what their children are watching. People used to say that plopping your kid infront of the television for hours on end without supervision, wasn't a suitable replacement for good parenting and decent entertainment. And these days the same is still true but it includes letting your kid run loose with an iPad lol.
Bas de Bruin it’s common sense as you get older we don’t need to teach 10 year olds that
or we could just have stricter regulations on advertising in children’s content, instead of relying on the kids themselves to discern what they can and can’t trust. the responsibility of navigating this stuff shouldn’t be put on the kids.
It just occurred to me that these are all now technically on Disney plus
"your child is now property of carl's Jr.; brought to you by carl's Jr."
Look, I'd gladly give up my kid for a lifetime supply of Thickburgers.
Carl's jr. Fuck you!
That Carl's Jr. thing made me think of Idiocracy when the lady couldn't get the burger out of the machine and it was the last of her money and then the machine says: "you are an unfit mother. Your child is now in the custody of Carl's Jr."
I LITERALLY THOUGHT OF THAT MOVIE TOO!!!!
This kid’s ego is gonna he so inflated when he realizes an entire franchise revolves around him.
They call me Andres. Because it's my name. More like confused and somewhat scarred
Or extremely depressed like all the other child/disney's stars......
I'm actually worried he'll end up like the child actors from the 80's and 90's
Imagine if he becomes a commentary channel when he's like 14 or 15. Like, he wouldn't just stick to the same toy shit forever, would he?
jake does memes Possibly, lots of adults do toy reviews🤷🏻♀️ whether or not he'll want to or he'll be forced to, idk.
