You are my absolute favorite! i have been doing yoga since 2013 (mostly watching yoga videos on youtube) and for whatever reason i have never came across your channel until recently. What i love about your videos is I can follow your voice so easily with my eyes closed and your voice its very relaxing to me. I get a awesome stretch every time. I ONLY watch your stuff now.. no more hunting for good yoga videos anymore... thank you!!!
Excellent classes, I am adding them all to my list. I see that you think of beginners like me and give us options that are challenging but possible. Thanks!
I decided to do two different hour long yoga classes the other day and my right shoulder is still feeling it. I did your sun salutations this morning but will do this one after I get some cardio in. Helen, you’re 💯
I have done this video a few times now since I injured my shoulder last October (not sure how, middle age? lol). Anyway, after some massage and chiropractor sessions I finally felt some relief. Now when ever I start to feel everything tighten up again I do this video and it provides immediate relief! Thank you so much for this and your channel, it has been my go to since the COVID pandemic started to reset my mind and body - :)
i was sick last week, my shoulders were so sore. now I feel like new thanks to this wonderful practice :-) also your voice is so healing and calming too! Thanks so much Helen!
Always enjoy your videos, Helen! This was fantastic for helping release some tension between my right upper back/shoulder/neck. I can't quite turn my head all the way to the right. If you have any recommendations for me as to your videos, I'd really appreciate it! Your a doll! Thank you!!!!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed this! Is this common with your neck? If so, I'd recommend seeing a doctor / physical therapist / and or chiropractor to get an evaluation. I don't have any neck-specific stretches, but the shoulder ones should help a bit. Have you done this one? ruclips.net/video/WWnacybfOuA/видео.html
Floating Yoga School thank you! I am always interested in additional stretch recommendations if you have specific ones I should be doing. my rotator cuff and pecs on the right is so painful and tight. thank you
hi Helen! what actually happens when you inhale in your lower back? It's definitely not air that blows your belly up like a balloon, then what happens? :)
Your lungs don't actually expand into your low back, but the sensation of breathing into your low back will help expand the lowest section of the lungs (around mid back) and may create a nice sense of stretching through your low back.
I felt great at the end of this class but I had to heavily modify the last 2/5s. For the first part of class I was thinking how wonderful it was to have a shoulder/ upper back class without all the poses that seem to make my shoulders rise up too high and my neck torque too much. Then those poses (eagle arms, thread the needle, tricep stretch) all showed up. I modified and still felt good at the end (and really like the fish variation, if that's what it was) but don't understand why there is this panoply of poses that most yogis do to help the shoulders and upper back that I think seem to do the opposite. Any thoughts? Thanks as always.
As always, thank you for the thoughtful comments, Suzanne! I've been thinking a lot about this the past couple of weeks as I have a massage therapist in my current yoga teacher training and we've been discussing the problem of "long lock" in the upper back. "Long lock" shows up a lot for people who drive, type, sit at a desk, or are on their phones (most of us!) and it's where the upper back/shoulder muscles are stretched and "locked" in that stretched position. As a result the chest muscles become shorter and tighter. So common poses for the shoulders and upper back like the ones I incorporated in this flow are designed to stretch the upper back and shoulders, but may not be appropriate for people who experience "long lock" and may be why they're so comfortable for you. I'm working on another series with more chest opening and strengthening of the upper back and romboid muscles to counteract "long lock." Does that make sense or resonate with you at all? Feel free to email me - Helen@FloatingYogaSchool.com - and I can try and explain a little bit more!
Floating Yoga School The reason you are such an incredible teacher is that you think about such things and explore beyond the limits of traditional yoga. I did email you more details a few days ago; I look forward to hearing more about long lock and these poses!
