Oh I really love that tale of the dragon one. It just says "the target spews fire" There's no save for THAT part, and it did NOT say they had to be willing, nor do they have control over it. So you could look at ANYONE when you've got that ready, activate it, and make them set whoever they're looking at on fire. This MIGHT be the most powerful social spell in the game.
Thinking of making a warforged that plays as like a haunted stereo/radio station for the table of tales (stereo also being his name). Idk if I'd make the spiritual focus old vcrs or something.
Some day I want to play in a party consisting of a necromancy wizard, death cleric, oathbreaker paladin, spores druid, phantom rogue, and spirits bard.
I picture shaman with drums. And lots of smoke... I love that idea for bard. Class is awesome! Ritual for extra spells is so powerfull and chance to be more flexible spellcaster makes this subclass even better.
I do love the idea of an (X-Men) gambit style person who uses tarok cards with a spell on, so you draw the card and do the spell. "Lets see what the card say.. oh look fireball"
all i can see in my mind is the goblin king (bowie) spinning that crystal ball on his fingers i can not wait to try this subclass, i do not even mind the randomness of the tales, they all seem useful.
Lohse from Divinity Original Sin 2 vibes! Love this subclass! So much potential flexibility and such a shift from traditional bard. Would love more subclasses like this that reworks mechanic potential and adds additional RNG!
I love this subclass, just wish the Spiritual Focus was just "When you cast a spell with your spiritual focus in hand" or something like that. I'll homerule it that way but bummer
Idea for the next subclasses after undead warlock: oath of the open sea Paladin and way of the cobalt soul monk, gunslinger fighter, and all the blood hunter subclasses...I think a lot of people wanna see Matt Mercers subclasses ranked 👀✨😆
Spirit Session seems really good for versatility. You mentioned there isn't a lot of roleplay potential. But being able to get Tongues for social encounters could be really good. Or Detect Thoughts, Locate Object, or Fortune's Favor could all be really good in various situations. If the Bard wanted to go more offensive with the spell, there's Mind Spike (which is a Divination spell). So there are definitely lots of options for either combat and roleplay potential. That's just Divination spells though. There's even more potential from Necromancy. I'm usually not a fan of Bards, but Spirit Session is probably my favorite feature from this subclass because of the possibilities it opens up.
The ability to temporarily have a new spell per short/long rest, is just like having another magical secrets that you can swap out on the fly as if your preparing spells. This seems great. I've had a fun idea to make up a series of spirit npcs, that when rolling on the spirit table, and you decide you use that ability; in the moment or even for a certain duration after using the ability; the corresponding spirit take over your character, like being possessed or having multiple personalities. I think it could make for some fun shenanigans; when like an evil lich or illithid takes over, a dragon or a helpful celestial.
You guys always create content that everyone can utilize easily. This subclass seems like a great fit for less combat driven campaigns in my opinion. Anyway please select me as a the winner for the contests. ❤️🔥🙏🏽🌎🕊
9:19 For Tale of the Runaway, it says they can choose a number of creatures it can see up to YOUR charisma modifier, meaning if you have +5 and cast it on someone with +0, they can still teleport the whole party with them.
Got to be honest this class is way okay for me to care. I love picking up a clutch spell but is is all flavor to me and I am a lot less positive on this then you were. The biggest issue in this book is how many times there are oddly written bits of the book. This class is no exception.
If i'm ever in a ravenloft campagin I'm going to play a reborn spirit bard. the idea is he was once a well-known bard but died and was reborn into a zombie, however he's currently being possesed by 13 diffrent ghosts, each one a diffrent story on the d12 table and the final one being the dark gift of echoing soul, would essentually be a skill monkey using the buffs I get from bard and the reborn. So reborn gives me a d6 to skill checks Bard gives me expertise and insperation spirit bard gives me guidence. I can also pick up enhance ability and what not so i'd be able to add all those boosts to any skill check while esentually being a rotting corpse with 13 ghosts hidding in him doing everything for him while pretending to be a normal human man bard.
I'm playing this class with the Dark gift haunting spirits that came out in the book. It been fun to roll play and this class works great with that dark gift.
Awesome and well tuned video. Thanks for doing and amazing job guys xD. Love the idea of a bard whose music is so bad he can raise the dead or echo locate using divination.
When I read college of spirits I figured they finally just combined everything a bard does best, performing and getting wasted on alcohol... but its spirits like ghosts not spirits like wine
I like additional uses of bardic inspiration. The rolling on the table seems a little too RNG for this class but can't deny that all of the effects seem decent to really good
Why you gotta upload when I'm asleep?! Still, a 22 minute video! I dunno about this one. Its neat with a lot of RP potential, but seems overly complicated. If this subclass has that much info in it, Van Ricten's has got to be THICC!!
We will never be done, we will never be done Let me remind you that as soon as you get the sixth level ability you can have spell such as identify and revivify every time you take a short rest and you have a couple buddies nearby Absolutely amazing
Really epic with 1-2 levels in wizard. Can you imagine a variant human/custom lineage with ritual caster cleric and 2 levels in necromancy wizard and the rest of their levels in bard? A bunch of divination and healing study guaranteed is really good.
The +d6 thing seems weirdly said. Unless it means all the subclasses bard spells need the focus for example (like Artificer). Also if you take it as is, this is basically useless for healing as only Regenerate heals and has a material component. There are a couple of damaging ones but really not many. I think your right that if you hold it in your hand it casts it. I'm sure there will be clarification soon via sage advice or it edited in an errata.
This subclass is overly complicated and random. Just looking at the flavour I expected it to be about summoning undead spirits, but this class is clearly more geared towards wild magic...I don't really see how this has anything to do with spirits...spirits = ghosts not wild magic. This subclass should have been called the college of wild magic, so that the college of spirits could have been a summoning bard subclass. Another thing...why can't I choose the story I read...is the skull saying the story? Is the crystal ball showing me the story...how do I role play telling a story I didn't want to say? Does a spirit take over my body? Is that a boon or a curse? Overly complicated.
This bard subclass is very well made. I'm happy to see a bard subclass that's focused on buff/debuff without burning through spell slots. As for the RP, there is only one thing that needs to be said (Spooky Bard!!) I have a question for the DM in the comments, is it possible to counter the effects of Tales form Beyond using the counterspell spell?
As a DM I would say no counterspell as the description says “You attempt to interrupt...the process of CASTING A SPELL.” The tales are a class ability and are not a spell. Thanks for watching!
This character class reminds me of the old woman/medium in Poltergeist. Fantastic opportunities for flavoring. I like it more for building NPCs at this point but it is well built class / just wrong for my players.
bard. with a ventriloquist doll. focuses spirits through it. Louisiana gentleman asking if you want hear a ghost story. the doll mouth slowly swings open as a disembodied voice projects from the void. the bard casts hold person. the spirits prefer a captive audience, be still and listen to the spirits.
Really looking forward to playing this but it feels like it's missing something, can't place my finger on it. Wanted an idea for a celtic style druid (not dnd druid, historical, which was more like this) where they would typically have an instrument and a skull to talk spirit guides and ancestors. But wanted a flavour like the villain from the princess and the frog, his name evades me right now.
binge-watching all of these videos makes me sad that there is a limit to the number of games a player can be in a once as a lot of classes seem really fun to play
Not so sure about this one myself... but then again Im already prejudiced against the Bard in the first place. Just dont like the thought of them for some reason...
You know a lot of Bard players are just going to milk these abilities for all they're worth and drive their DM crazy 🤣 it's like the bard is becoming a all round charter.
Thanks for watching!

Great spot. Need to implicate someone else for a crime, get two baddies to turn on each other? Use this.

This subclass just made my cleric jealous because it’s better a dealing out guidance.
The Tales from the Beyond ability is such a creative idea, and the buffing potential is incredible
A bard haunted by the previous owners of his musical instrument is my cup of tea. Love it
I work in New Orleans as both a tour guide and a tarot reader. My wife jokes that they made a subclass based on me, only more badass...LOL
This himbo energy is adorable 😍
I picture shaman with drums. And lots of smoke... I love that idea for bard.
Class is awesome! Ritual for extra spells is so powerfull and chance to be more flexible spellcaster makes this subclass even better.
Subclass that pushes creativity, super fun.
So this sublass multiclassed with Phantom Rouge would be allot of fun RP
I do love the idea of an (X-Men) gambit style person who uses tarok cards with a spell on, so you draw the card and do the spell. "Lets see what the card say.. oh look fireball"

I love the darker versions of bards
Now i know what my next bard build will be, cant wait to build a spirit bard that flings tarot cards to cast spells
I love this subclass, just wish the Spiritual Focus was just "When you cast a spell with your spiritual focus in hand" or something like that. I'll homerule it that way but bummer
Found you guys yesterday, big fan and have been binging your subclass analysis while I work. Makes my day fly by.
Welcome to the party!
Thank you guys. So upbeat. Love it
thanks guys info for all classes and sub classes.
Idea for the next subclasses after undead warlock: oath of the open sea Paladin and way of the cobalt soul monk, gunslinger fighter, and all the blood hunter subclasses...I think a lot of people wanna see Matt Mercers subclasses ranked 👀✨😆
Bard always gets really cool subclasses
Mechanically it kinda reminds me of the wild magic barbarian.... But spooky!

I always enjoy extra spells and acting like a bag of tricks, will definetly look into this one

The biggest issue in this book is how many times there are oddly written bits of the book. This class is no exception.
This is what makes me want to play hard so bad. I find all of the new subclasses so cool.
Happy Hands! more Give a ways! This is a very good support subclass.
I am now in 4 campaigns and one uses dndbeyond for sheets, I need these books lol
What an amazing and thematic subclass for this book. I never was too interested in checking out bards but this one is too interesting to pass up
If i'm ever in a ravenloft campagin I'm going to play a reborn spirit bard. the idea is he was once a well-known bard but died and was reborn into a zombie, however he's currently being possesed by 13 diffrent ghosts, each one a diffrent story on the d12 table and the final one being the dark gift of echoing soul, would essentually be a skill monkey using the buffs I get from bard and the reborn.

I have been waiting for this bard. Want to play with a skull glass globe
I'm playing this class with the Dark gift haunting spirits that came out in the book. It been fun to roll play and this class works great with that dark gift.
I think it's cool to have a bard who's casting is tied to telling and performing stories.
How inspirational.
Great video can't wait to see the class in my game
Really liked this subclass, thanks for reviewing it!!
Spiritual focus and guiding whispers feel really nice flavourwise, not sure how useful they'll actually be
The ouija bard!
Does the digital copy ( D&D beyond) come with a software/macro version of a Ouija baord?
@@benjaminkowal7310 i have no idea but one of the focus's you can use is a spirit board.
Awesome and well tuned video. Thanks for doing and amazing job guys xD. Love the idea of a bard whose music is so bad he can raise the dead or echo locate using divination.

Great Class. Great summary/rating!
Spooky suggestion, phantom rouge and this would be amazing.
I have been wanting to play a somewhat necromantic character for a long while now, and this plus the undead warlock gives me even more options!
Nothing like a spooky storyteller
I like the subclasses they sound fun too play🤩👍
I can’t wait for the new warlock! Lol gonna make a spooky pact of the blade my next campaign
I think this class is definitely up there with Lore and Eloquence bard. Wish the Warlock subclass was half this good.
Great videos guys love the videos you do keep it up almost to 10000
If I wasn't playing a cleric now this would be next on my list. But I already cast guidance way too often.
Nice take!
This feels like the least bard and i like it
I am a big fan of the group ritual to learn spells, I wish it prevented using the participants from using hit dice to regain hp.
Honestly, this subclass works well for RP if your character in mute. They are the silent protector of the group
We will never be done, we will never be done
Let me remind you that as soon as you get the sixth level ability you can have spell such as identify and revivify every time you take a short rest and you have a couple buddies nearby
Absolutely amazing
If anybody's played Ghost of Tsushima, this reminds me of Gyozen. I think that would make a cool character.
Really epic with 1-2 levels in wizard. Can you imagine a variant human/custom lineage with ritual caster cleric and 2 levels in necromancy wizard and the rest of their levels in bard? A bunch of divination and healing study guaranteed is really good.
Oh, and can you imagine 2 levels of warlock for that pact of the time and the invocation for ritual casting?
Awesome video
Tale of the Clever Animal sounds like a get me out of this situation card ;^_^
Very interesting.

I have a question for the DM in the comments, is it possible to counter the effects of Tales form Beyond using the counterspell spell?
nvm, I just looked up counterspell. it doesn't work that way.
As a DM I would say no counterspell as the description says “You attempt to interrupt...the process of CASTING A SPELL.” The tales are a class ability and are not a spell. Thanks for watching!
Good videos guys
I want to play this sub class with a Goliath race. Might do a custom lineage with it.
With this video, I"m actually building a spirits bard for a Discord game with Realmsmith.
He'll be a full orc.
Want that players bundle!
Hey I’m new to dnd and I am a changing bard in my campaign
Nice! Welcome to the community! Hope you have fun and enjoy! Thanks for watching!
This character class reminds me of the old woman/medium in Poltergeist. Fantastic opportunities for flavoring. I like it more for building NPCs at this point but it is well built class / just wrong for my players.
"Or fictional architypes"
..."DM, can I use a comic book for my spellcasting focus?"
"...I'll allow it."
I'm going to be playing a changeling divine soul sorc 1 / Spirits bard 19.
Subclass is broken and as a bard player. I am happy 😁
I'm interested in multiclassing with Spirit Bard, maybe warlock.
I'm multiclassing with divine soul sorcerer
Warlock would be cool
bard. with a ventriloquist doll. focuses spirits through it. Louisiana gentleman asking if you want hear a ghost story. the doll mouth slowly swings open as a disembodied voice projects from the void. the bard casts hold person. the spirits prefer a captive audience, be still and listen to the spirits.
I would like to think there might be a way to have 2 lineages at the same time, like a Hexed Dhampir and combine it with some lycanthropy
Might actually play a bard now
Really looking forward to playing this but it feels like it's missing something, can't place my finger on it. Wanted an idea for a celtic style druid (not dnd druid, historical, which was more like this) where they would typically have an instrument and a skull to talk spirit guides and ancestors. But wanted a flavour like the villain from the princess and the frog, his name evades me right now.
This will be a great singing voodoo like charlatan!
Dr. Facillier?
@@godofzombi yes! I was blanking on the name! Thank you
Spooky Bard!
So I don't like the bard much at all but I really wanna play this
Ooo new toys
This subclass just screams Edgar Allan Poe to me.
binge-watching all of these videos makes me sad that there is a limit to the number of games a player can be in a once as a lot of classes seem really fun to play
Guidance lovers, this subclass is for you!
I wonder if you would even use Instrument with this class lol
Not so sure about this one myself... but then again Im already prejudiced against the Bard in the first place. Just dont like the thought of them for some reason...
Oo spirit bard
Casting through the spiritual focus makes me not want to play this subclass =(
Discuss with your DM and maybe show them our discussion on that ability in that section of the video! Thanks for watching!
You know a lot of Bard players are just going to milk these abilities for all they're worth and drive their DM crazy 🤣 it's like the bard is becoming a all round charter.
Bards always seem so complicated to play IMO.
Yo
Definitely interesting but not my cup of tea
... that stage in a d&d edition where the designers turn out increasingly gimmicky character options to convince consumers to turn over ready cash
