The first movie I ever saw alone in a theater in my small town was when I was 14 years old. I was captivated by the beauty of both of the stars, and the music including this song.
Olivia gave Juliet such personality. In a roll that doesn’t really offer much outside of the romance with Romeo, she really felt like a spirited young girl who truly loved Romeo. 🙏🏻 RIP Olivia!
I love how genuine attraction and the signs of it never really change no matter what time period you’re in. As shown when Juliette gets nervous during their conversation and grabs a glass of wine lol
I feel certain Olivia Hussey is exactly who William Shakespeare had in mind for the role of Juliet. She IS and will always be the best who played this role in my mind. So beautiful, yet childlike, full of hopes and dreams of youth.
Olivia Hussey, as Juliet, would challenge DaVinci to capture her incomparable beauty. If she were the model for DaVinci then, people would ask who is Mona Lisa, but rather know only the mysterious beauty of Oliva Hussey as Juliet.
1.) Zac Efron is a discount Leonard Whiting. 2.) Olivia Hussey’s beauty in her prime of youth was unmatched. 3.) That bard could sing me to sleep every single night. Voice like an angel
Olivia had that kind of face that would be considered beautiful in any time. She fits right in an renaissance painting. She looks good today too, though.
The costumes were SO beautiful, Juliet’s red dress and beaded cap hat… oh my! I adore this movie and admit that I too, fell in love with young Romeo. What gorgeous star crossed lovers they made! RIP Olivia Hussey🕊️🕊️♥️ 4/17/51 - 12/27/24.
Man, I never knew how beautiful Shakespeare plays are. I always hated Romeo and Juliet, just Shakespeare in general. But after rewatching this, I JUST realized how beautiful the writing really is. The conversation between Romeo and Juliet is so witty. I just fell in love...I guess my teachers were right; Shakespeare’s plays are meant to be seen not read. Man I’m so late on this...
A mon (Humble) Avis, la plus Belle Version Cinématographique de ROMÉO ET JULIETTE.... Les Jeunes Amants de Vérone sont vraiment très Romantiques ! Merci aux Comédiens Talentueux : Léonard Whiting et Olivia Hussey... Bravo au Réalisateur de Génie : Monsieur Franco Zeffeireli !!!
Notice that the party had no age gap. Everyone fit, and were socializing with one another. Juliet's father knew how to throw a respectable social event. It's the only party where trespass can be sweetly urged! Innocence today is a lost commodity! The viewer is drawn to the fashion, and cultural respect of one another. Some feel they belong back in this era. It's something one can relate to as well. I know I do. The world was less puzzling, but still, life was complicated just the same back then as it is today.
"Rest now my beautiful Juliet no injustices can hurt you now. And the world will remember your beauty inside and out forever. Leonard" 💔🥀 Forever our Juliet, rest easy dear Olivia.
I loved this film. I was a teen when I saw it and it moved me so much. Zeffirelli's lush backgrounds and medieval colors, Shakespeare's words like music, Juliet's boobs pushed up to overflowing, her husky voice, Romeo's face full of longing, Tybalt's rage and anger causing likeable Mercutio's death, the crassness of the nurse, the kindness of the friar, the bullying father trying to marry off his daughter to the wrong guy, the ultimate tragedy of the two warring families who could not reconcile till they both lost their fairest child. It was so full of drama and color and terrifying end to that beautiful love story. No one could have done it better than Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey. A magnificent movie that will never die.
You actually see the girl walking into the ball, and Juliet's father recognizes her as Helena, his niece. If this is so, that would make Helena a cousin of Juliet. Who Juliet smiles at, but you also see a bit of jealousy on Juliet's face as well. I'm trying to figure out why this was exchanged between the two, and thought perhaps vanity was the issue. I do not see Helena's character in the ending credits. She is a mystery to me, and intriguing also. I only know that Capulets' had beautiful women in their family. Trespass sweetly urged with the both of them!
@@Lemon-gd3we You're welcome. And my apologies for the trespass sweetly urged comment. I am the old fashion type who would find it improper to lip lock with someone I had just met at a social function. 9 out of 10 women would have probably decked Romeo for such a move! lol! Romeo would have ended up being stretched on the rack for a few hours, and would have ended up a little taller then before. Helena was far taller then Juliet. I think Helena was taller then Romeo. I noticed Romeo was slightly taller then Juliet. He certainly was not six feet.
Olivia Hussey's Juliet looks EXACTLY the Juliet I always had in mind! Long dark hair, light olive skin, jade green eyes, the sweet, vivacious yet tragically naive Renaissance princess. Olivia IS Juliet!!! :D :D :D
I first saw this as a teenager in 1968 . In my opinion , this is the best Romeo and Juliet period . The cast ,The Music ,the Director, the cinematography, and costume design all incredible !!!!!
The best Romeo and Juliet ever. I adore Ms Hussey and Mr. Whiting - fell in love with them instantly the first time I saw this, and still love them. Olivia's laugh! So gorgeous. *happy sigh*
A rose will bloom, it then will fade, so does a youth, so does the fairest maid. One sweet smile has it’s season for a while. So true, this used to depress me but now gives me comfort somehow. Being a young “fair maid” for a time, becoming a nurturing mother, hopefully a grandmother one day, maybe even a great grandmother - I hope to live through and enjoy every season.
Like every teenage boy in the universe seeing the film, I fell for Olivia Hussey, all the more so as there was a girl like her at my school! I married somebody entirely different, though also petite and brunette it is true. Olivia did not have an easy life (cancer), and I guess seeing her now it would be hard to guess she had been a heart-throb for millions. Such is life. I therefore welcome the perspective-setting story you tell here, and say a heartfelt "God bless you!"
The 2013 version is pretty close. I hate how assholes bully Hailee Steinfield's looks as if she's not pretty enough to be Juliet. She was fantastic in the role.
The most beautiful Romeo and Juliet actors that will never ever be matched. If you want to make a movie based on R&J, you have to make it the farthest away from this Zeferilli version. If you attempt to match this version, you will miserably fail. This is unsurpassable by all accounts. Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whitting are the true Romeo and Juliet.
I read a review about these two from Roger Ebert. Before this version of Romeo and Juliet, actors in their 20s and 30s recited Shakespeare lines to each other as if only the words mattered. But Olivia (15) and Leonard (17) brought a youthful spontaneity and playfulness, freshness, a naivety and breathless passion to the role. It’s as if we were experiencing the story for the very first time.

Olivia gave Juliet such personality. In a roll that doesn’t really offer much outside of the romance with Romeo, she really felt like a spirited young girl who truly loved Romeo. 🙏🏻 RIP Olivia!

Most beautiful Romeo and Juliet in Hollywood movies
Olivia Hussey is simply delicious
@@marcolfo100 She was 14.
@@robertperry4439 she'll kick Mona Lisa's ass >= )
I love Shakespeare language!
But I h💗te the ascent in this film....
@Chuu Chuu -- Better late than never -- congratulations! Anyone who sticks it out with Shakespeare is amply rewarded for their effort.
YES
A mon (Humble) Avis, la plus Belle Version Cinématographique de ROMÉO ET JULIETTE....
Les Jeunes Amants de Vérone sont vraiment très Romantiques !
Merci aux Comédiens Talentueux : Léonard Whiting et Olivia Hussey...
Bravo au Réalisateur de Génie : Monsieur Franco Zeffeireli !!!
Her luminous beauty made the world a lovelier place.
This is my favorite version of Romeo and Juliet
Agreed
Mine too
Never another film Romeo and Juliet to touch it. The dance was so period correct, and so merry I wished to dance with them.
I know another very good version From Renato Castellani with Laurence Harvey and SusanShentall- The actrice was similar to Grace Kelly
Notice that the party had no age gap. Everyone fit, and were socializing with one another.
Juliet's father knew how to throw a respectable social event. It's the only party where
trespass can be sweetly urged! Innocence today is a lost commodity! The viewer is drawn
to the fashion, and cultural respect of one another. Some feel they belong back in this era.
It's something one can relate to as well. I know I do. The world was less puzzling, but still,
life was complicated just the same back then as it is today.
Hello Tina hope you are okay?
nah we need black Juliet
Olivia was and always will be Juliet to me.
I guess language of romance expressions are different from every culture.. yet it ends up with the same result.. making babies.. 😅🙊
I saw it numerous times and cried every time ....
@@soniadowney7427 😂😁.. good morning.
4:26 the whole interaction especially when Juliet smiles at her. So darling! ♥️♥️
You actually see the girl walking into the ball, and Juliet's father recognizes her as Helena,
his niece. If this is so, that would make Helena a cousin of Juliet. Who Juliet smiles at, but
you also see a bit of jealousy on Juliet's face as well. I'm trying to figure out why this was
exchanged between the two, and thought perhaps vanity was the issue. I do not see Helena's
character in the ending credits. She is a mystery to me, and intriguing also. I only know that
Capulets' had beautiful women in their family. Trespass sweetly urged with the both of them!
Tom O'Donovan oh! Thank you I did not know this! And you are quite right the capulet family has such beautiful women ☺️
@@Lemon-gd3we You're welcome. And my apologies for the trespass sweetly urged comment. I am
the old fashion type who would find it improper to lip lock with someone I had just met at a
social function. 9 out of 10 women would have probably decked Romeo for such a move! lol!
Romeo would have ended up being stretched on the rack for a few hours, and would have ended
up a little taller then before. Helena was far taller then Juliet. I think Helena was taller then Romeo.
I noticed Romeo was slightly taller then Juliet. He certainly was not six feet.
My favorite version of Romeo and Juliet! ❤
mine too!
RIP, Olivia Hussey.
She is the most beautiful Juliet ever in the world
They have amazing chemistry

The best Romeo and Juliet ever. I adore Ms Hussey and Mr. Whiting - fell in love with them instantly the first time I saw this, and still love them. Olivia's laugh! So gorgeous. *happy sigh*
Oh, how many young men envied Romeo? I surely. RIP Olivia Hussey!
Best medieval pickup lines by Romeo! :) But seriously, one of the most beautiful casts in the cinema history!
Hey it's classier than the pickup lines that are used today

@@ibanez856 and such is the cycle of life….
Good Lord.. Olivia was only 16 years old when she made this movie. Leonard was only 17
Franco Zeffirelli certainly made a gorgeous movie. Actors, costumes, art decoration, music, cinematography, direction, all unforgettable.
The ONLY Romeo & Juliet worth watching
She was a great beauty…….captured the beauty of youth……today our idea of beauty is Kim Khardasian……wow! Hard to understand or explain.
Maybe whose idea? Not mine!
By far, this was the best version of Romeo and Juliet. There are no actors today capable of this quality.
The 2013 version is pretty close. I hate how assholes bully Hailee Steinfield's looks as if she's not pretty enough to be Juliet. She was fantastic in the role.
@@summerrose8110 Hailee certainly was pretty enough....I just didn't think the production value was as good and the 1968 was.
Watching this after hearing the news of her passing. What a treasure of a movie. What a perfect moment.

Very well put.
