    I can faintly remember someplace in Cordoba where they had this mall, and on the top floor there was this room with a window view selling bootleg PS2 videogames with box arts that were clearly printed on a computer, judging by the washed out image and colors. Even so and perhaps because of my perception of the world as a child, these bootlegs were being sold in an enviroment that felt pretty cash money, despite obviously being ISO extracted into a dvd and meant to be played on jailbreaked PS2 systems. And for some reason out of all the games on display, the one I picked that day was Alvin and the Chimpunks.

      I see the positivity too. I just think that people are a bit too spoiled these days and expect almost every game to be held to a certain standard. And more than likely these people started playing during the 8th gen and were never around for 5th or 6th gen, so to them this is unacceptable and it's trash. To them, license games don't belong in today's day and age of gaming when in reality they have no idea what they are talking about when all they do is either play some dumb live service with a $30 battle pass or spend over 100 hours in an empty, boring open world title and think its game of the year. When they have played as many games as I have (over a 1000 games) then they can come back and we can talk....

      @@bobtom1495I mean, I know a lot of reveiwers that bag on things like Golum have been in the Games Journalism industry since the PS2 era, and have been gaming for a decade or so before that.
      I think its totally fair for a game as rushed as Kong or unpolished as Gollum to get bad reviews. They are not "good" games, and for the asking price you have so many better options.
      But there's also nothing wrong with seeing what was done well in a "bad" game. There are quite a few 5/10 games that I love, but wouldn't recommend to just anyone.

    • @Gatorade69
      @Gatorade69 4 месяца назад +4

      @@bobtom1495While I ultimately agree with most of what you said you do come off a bit gatekeepy at the end. Just let people enjoy what they enjoy but ultimately I do agree that modern gamers are spoiled brats. A big problem is that many people want to hate something just because, the negativity bias has been on a steady increase since 2007, and if you look close enough you can see what the problem is (It's social media). Plenty of people hate on a game without actually playing it, they just repeat what they hear and are unable to form their own opinions (even though they claim it is their own opinion).
      I see many modern gamers dismiss 7/10 games as "mid" which mid to them has ultimately become crap and "unplayable." Like I have seen plenty of people hate on Robocop because "It doesn't do anything new" but a game doesn't have to do something new, it just has to be fun (or have some other enjoyable qualities about it).
      We got the experience of seeing and playing all the growing pains, we got the experience of playing games at only 24fps or less, we have dealt with bad controls and awful graphics, we have realized just how much work actually goes into developing a game and we have tempered expectations because of it. Hell, I even enjoy some of those 'dumb live service games' and 'empty boring open world titles' because I can find something entertaining or fun in them.

    • @Gatorade69
      @Gatorade69 4 месяца назад +2

      @@GalanthosYes it is fair of them to get bad reviews but to me the problem simply comes down to people wanting to hate on something for some stupid reason. People want to point to those games (Gollum and Kong) as the reason "AAA games are bad" when those games were never AAA in the first place. Many people don't want to see the positives or look at the bigger picture (like how the Kong devs probably crunched their asses off for a year).
      One of the big games that I can point to is The Last of Us 2. I see so many people simply dismiss it as "Dogshit" and harp on it for being a bad game. The game improved on everything from the first game mechanically and graphically. It has beautiful graphics, animations, tense gameplay, powerful feeling weapons and had very minimal bugs but because someone doesn't like the story they call it Dogshit and pretend that the game killed their mom. We are moving towards absolutism with people unable to give nuanced takes and they only see things in black and white.

I think a big part of what makes it work is imo it wasnt man vs machine conflict per se and more man vs corporate machine so to speak, in the sense that he already was a tool for his masters and simply became even moreso. And as cool as it is for him to have robot guns its also demeaning because he has to eat baby food which is a very small moment but also an important one imo - he hates eating that fken baby food and the first signs of his returning humanity is him saying hes not hungry. Played Miraculous Ladybug Rise of the Sphinx with my lil cousin a while back, it has this shitty issue where the camera only focuses on one character so if one character gets too far away from the other they die instantly and respawns immediately after,
    This became an extra big issue when you factor in that their are platforms that only one character can interact with that causes a platform to move.
    This lead to a moment in the level named ‘Gamer 3’ (wish I was joking) where Cat Noir activates a platform so that Ladybug can get a collectible by standing on a moving platform. The platform Ladybug was standing on moved off screen which killed Cat Noir and moved him closer to her to respawn with no platforms so instead he just free falls through the map and no-clips into the skybox and then Ladybug can’t see so she falls too, so now the both of us are trapped in the fuckin Paris catacombs.
    Tough conversation telling my cousin that the video games featuring her favourite Characters are more likely to suck

    thank you for pointing out the FromSoft jank in this video. i think its weird that people overlook that part of the reason that souls combat feels so good & is so difficult to master is because movement & swinging your weapon is janky as hell & it forces the player to adjust to the jank rather than adjust itself to suit the player. Of course you showed gameplay from older fromsoft , but i think that sentiment holds up well for current fromsoft myself

      @ceciliagently 4 месяца назад +2

      @@SnakebitSTI ill admit im in the minority when i say that the reason i love the souls games so much is because i think they're actually poorly designed. i think the approach to story & lore is kinda lazy, the level design is all over the place, & the combat is janky as hell in a way that definitely doesnt feel purposeful to me... but its up to the player to find the rhythm in all of that & make something for themselves. i dont find these games engaging because of what they're presenting, but moreso i find them engaging in the same way i do a rhythm game. part of beating a boss isnt reading their patterns, but looking at it as a video game & finding the things the boss just cant physically do & taking advantage of that. certainly the games have gotten more polished over time, but the jank is still there & elden ring being so large its stretched so thin the cracks show so much more in my opinion. especially in the story department.
      but i still adore these games. i think they rule for what they are, & its surprising because i dont really enjoy video games much outside games that feel this way.

    For me, one of the more interesting licensed games to come out last year was UFO Robo Grendizer: The Feast of the Wolves. At a glance you might think, "big deal, another anime game". But what makes this one notable is that it wasn't developed by a Japanese studio and seems to have been made more for the childhood nostalgia of European and Arabic regions where it was a big hit. Also I love me some Go Nagai, so it's def something I'm interested in checking out. After watching the anime first of course.
    The Walking Dead: Destinies with it's overambitious gimmick of changing how events played out from the tv series is also some prime licensed game content.

    hearing you talk about how night was handled before games had complex lighting systems, there's an experimental mod for Need For Speed Underground 2 called Remaster RTX Remix, and I feel that demonstrates the advantages of the "fake" baked in lighting of old games. Granted, it is an experiment, but something was really lost when games were able to have real lighting now.

    MICROIDS VIDEO GAME MENTIONNED !!!!!!!!!!
    in all seriousness Microids (they developped gadget and produced Tintin, they're also behing garfield kart i think ) dropping random games based on french/belgian licences is fascinating especially considering that some of them look strangely appealing ?? I mean they made 2 Smurfs TPS ??? and the 2nd one has decent art direction although it has absolutely nothing to do with the original material
    It's so fucking strange because I have NO IDEA who's the target for those games ? like even in France not one kid gives a shit about the Smurfs

    • @moister3727

      Pretty sure those guys are under some weird contract under licensed games. Like, I barely heard anything comming from them yet they still pump games smurt games like nothing. About garfield, gamemill might had take the wheel on this one. I can safely say it is based on the garfield 3D show that was being made in france back in the day so it makes sense Microids would start making weird Garfield games. Asterix & Obelix too, which are somewhat famous and they come from france too.
      Weird that Ubisoft isn't involved since you know, french people.

      @@moister3727It was Microids behind Garfield Kart, or they just published it. I too could have sworn that it was also GameMill but I think I got it mixed up. GameMill has been behind a lot of Nickelodeon games like Nick Kart Racers and Nickelodeon now owns Garfield. Could be why we both thought it was GameMill. However I am never wrong so it must be the Mandela Effect.

    Man, a bright colorfully animated Gollum point and click adventure game might have been alright. Balance the dour atmosphere and cynical protag with some cool ‘in between’ story full of mystery puzzles and colorful characters (even if they are all evil orcs and stuff) might have been a okay in my book. We all watched Larian stick with what they knew and enjoyed and eventually release BG3. That, coupled with the opposite story of Redfall devs, should clue publishers into what’s going on. It won’t, but it should:) Let devs make the kind of games they would want to play…and good things follow
