It's really refreshing seeing normal escape room puzzles in a hack like this. As a professional escape room designer I often felt these were missing out by not including normal puzzles alongside the battle puzzles.
@@airam1721 I can't speak for the romhack designers, but I personally just started working at a local escape room, demonstrated my design chops, and eventually ended up as the lead designer for several years. Unfortunately though I think I was a bit of an unusual case - as far as I know most room designers have to start their own business to do it. I had the advantage of past experience in game design, particularly modding, to help get started. Point and click adventures are a great place to look if you're interested in studying escape rooms tho!
well done, I was able to play this yesterday then watching you find the solutions after was fun (you definitely took less time lmao). These escape rooms are so cool- it's amazing how much you guys are able to push pokemon to it's limits. I'm excited for more in the future!
This was an amazing escape room, it fixes a lot of issues I had with others, thanks to the No Exp, and the antisoftlock is very useful. It also gives subtle hints with npc dialogues (and names, didn't even notcie DS Able on my run), without giving stuff away.
I love puzzles in Pokemon. Your nuzlocke and escape room series do a great job of showing them off because team construction for a difficult battle is itself a puzzle.

@athath2010 Turn 1: Smeargle used Protect, Gardevoir used Skill Swap on Scrafty Turn 2: Gardevoir used Pain Split on Scrafty (which didn't really affect either mon), Smeargle used Sketch on Gardevoir Turn 3-10: Smeargle kept using Pain Split on the more healthy opponent to heal up (or Protect if both had low HP), Gardevoir kept spamming Skill Swap on my Smeargle to re-trigger Intimidate over and over again Turn 11-12: Smeargle still kept healing itself, Gardevoir used Disable twice (due to Mental Herb) on enemy Smeargle Turn 13: my Smeargle died unfortunately, but the enemy Smeargle also died to Struggle recoil; my Gardevoir healed up with one last Pain Split Turn 14 (last turn of Perish Song): Gardevoir used Trick Room to make sure Scrafty dies first
As straightforward as that item is for a puzzle, it fits nicely! (I just wished there were more stuff hiding in the Pokedex, because hiding stuff in the PC got so obvious for escape rooms that wiz had to code something extra for the National Museum puzzle)
love the video! but how it was edited makes it hard to follow what's going on? its cut around the battles not the escape room so half the time I have no clue what options there are for the player
He doesn't go over it, but you need to get rid of Disable and replace it with Pain Split, that will keep it healthy enough to where the last turn of Trick Room will be when you use Destiny Bond on Tapu Bulu. The 4th sign lies saying you need Disable for that fight
Short answer: yes. Normally, stolen items are returned to the player's Pokémon after battle. Apparently this isn't the case when you steal their item (HM06) during the same battle. Oops. Will be fixed in the next update.
@@Ketchupplant It is 100% understandable that you didn't see that coming. That was a uniquely creative mistake on my part. Before bonking headfirst into that, I've been having a lot of fun with it, and when I give it another go and do it correctly, I don't doubt that I still will.
are competetive rulesets standard for escape rooms? seeing stuff like "oh you can faint and not lose" followed by running from trainer battle + no items threw me for a loop
Dude how the heck do you figure out all this stuff, I would probably be unable to solve even half the puzzles? Guess logical thinking and good knowledge helps but also some patinece
I’ve been playing this escape room as well. Took me a lot longer though. I’m mad about the fact that u/I could just run away after stealing the item from zangoose. I went with this entire pp stall into struggle strat to lose which was not fun
I had the same question answered for me in this comment section. You're supposed to Pain Split the Togedemaru so that the final turn of TR is when the Bulu KOs Gardevoir.
I skipped the berry fight by using trick room/protect turn 1, and pain split/perish song turn 2. after skill swapping intimidate and protecting turn 3 it gives you just enough hp to stall to the end of perish song without the sitrus berry. They always double targeted the protect smeargle turn 1 though, so idk if it was a bug or something with the ai. Super fun though, keep it up!
That's a bug I've never been able to recreate. Do you recall any details, like did the double target into Protect already happen the first time you fought them? Was it consistent in every fight?
@Ketchupplant It didn't happen the first time I fought them, but happened after put iron ball on smeargle (after the rolan fight) which I thought was strange because they usually double targeted gard when I protect. It was consistent though. I did it several times before I found the winning order, and recreated it after to check.
@@Ketchupplant Did a quick test, and it only happened when smeargle is in slot 2, otherwise they target gard. And I was able to get it to occur before the iron ball fight
10:15 Oh, but it has Sketch - and you have non catchable lvl 100 Salazzle with Protect... 12:30 But I guess that was intended? Oh wait they don't want to trade Smeargle, that's fun! 13:35 Question may be - what are the rules for Skill Swap vs Truant skip turns.
you should try pokemon salt and shadow. dark souls like game and its like an escape room since every trainer can be hard to beat especially the end bosses
Spoilers Wondering about that rock smash trainer, if that was intended I figured you'd stall so that final gambit was a double ko having the same effect
I saw this video and played the game first before finally watching, but I somehow beat the elders without beating Roel and the other trainers. Smeargle with Pain Split, Gardevoir with Disable and Destiny Bond. PP stall Super Fang while alternating Protect and Pain Split (targeting Scrafty most of the time, one time on other Smeargle) on Smeargle, and skill swapping Intimidate on your Pokemon. Then opponent Smeargle will Perish Song. Time everything so that at the last turn, Gardevoir will have 1 hp to Destiny Bond, Protect on Smeargle, and win due to Perish Song. I was so confused when I got out and it said I beat it, but I haven't defeated the other trainers yet lol. Great video as always.
Hope you enjoyed. Next escape room is already in the making!

what was your strategy for the final fight without those items?
@athath2010 Turn 1: Smeargle used Protect, Gardevoir used Skill Swap on Scrafty
Turn 2: Gardevoir used Pain Split on Scrafty (which didn't really affect either mon), Smeargle used Sketch on Gardevoir
Turn 3-10: Smeargle kept using Pain Split on the more healthy opponent to heal up (or Protect if both had low HP), Gardevoir kept spamming Skill Swap on my Smeargle to re-trigger Intimidate over and over again
Turn 11-12: Smeargle still kept healing itself, Gardevoir used Disable twice (due to Mental Herb) on enemy Smeargle
Turn 13: my Smeargle died unfortunately, but the enemy Smeargle also died to Struggle recoil; my Gardevoir healed up with one last Pain Split
Turn 14 (last turn of Perish Song): Gardevoir used Trick Room to make sure Scrafty dies first
@athath2010 TLDR: I PP-stalled Smeargle's Super Fang and Disabled Perish Song to make it Struggle to death
That's definitely not the intended solution 😂
