O Scale Lionel Amtrak F40 and Amfleet Cars Review

In today's video, I am reviewing Lionel's latest F40's in the Amtrak Phase III scheme along with four Amtrak Amfleet cars. I run the set on the P&MV in both regular and night scenes showing how the train lights up at night.

I really liked the F40PH locomotives and it was a schoolmate that introduced me to Amtrak and its trains when he went to Disneyland in Orland, Florida when he rode one of these from New York to Orlando as he called it a "National Express Train" which I think he meant Amtrak as National Express never operated in the US especially in the 1980's. I remember him telling me that these F40PH's was very loud when they were at the station and upon myself learning about American trains is that these use HEP and the power unit has to run on full power to provide electricity to the passenger cars in the train. Ever since back then when he showed me the photos of these F40PH's that was on his train. I fell in love with the EMD F40PH locomotives ever since because they really have a very nice charming look to them and I like these EMD locomotive designs the most. Hi JR, This Amtrak set really hits home for me. When I was little my parents gave me an HO Amtrak passengers set (I asked for a Lionel😥) with this exact engine and 6 cars. I have been looking all over trying to find this phase III paint scheme with the black roof from my memories. I found the 6 passenger cars last week made by MTH. Now just have to get the F40 locomotive to complete my set. Then I will start on building my Catenary system. I have subscribed to your channel and will be following your progress. Frank

Excellent Video JR.! 👍Love the F40.! Metra in are area still runs them to and from Chicago but they are slowly going by way of the future unless they are rebuilt. The new crew talk is fantastic and I really like the mars lights.! Really enjoyed running in reverse and the night shots.! WELL DONE.! 👍Nice smoker too.!😊

Nice video. if you keep the cab headlight/marker light switch on, it’ll change between the headlight or red marker lights depending on the direction the cab car is moving. So even if you always move in the pull direction, your train will have end of train red marker lights.

I have tested my amfleets on 036, they look ridiculous but will work with no issues.

Your well done camera shots give me a nice idea of your trainboard. You've planned out many good features - turntables, tunnels, inclines, track overpases. Started my new trainboard almost 4 years ago and after many, many delays, track is done. Sadly, I ve eliminated my elevated runs, inclines,tunnels, declines, just like yours, because of constant speed changes on my many older proto 1 mth engines. I never ever expected to takes years longer with my new trainboard, debuging atlas o power and switch problems, learning walk thru's, learning star wiring and dcs. Will be real nice to see your trainboard progress from here forward and compare it to my progress. Gary

I pre-ordered the set with the Genesis engine/3 cars, and the add on two car set. I was disappointed in the size of the “new” P42 (former MTH RailKing tooling) so I ended up buying the F40 to go along with the cars. It’s quickly become one of my favorite engines. The in-cab detail is impressive, the lighted instrument panel, etc. I think it looks much better with the Amfleet cars, especially when you add some people to the cars!
