Terrific Demo! After seeing this, I bought the NUX Optima Air for my acoustic that is equipped with the K&K pure mini. I was plugging in directly to my Roland AC -90 and the sound was okay. Bought this unit and was blown away by the improved sound and flexibility. Simply amazing device…..
Sounds great. Great job with the quick but informative explanation. No senseless rambling. Your demo bypassed the ramblings and went straight into it. Well done.
Impressively accurate. The Martin HD-28 has the big beefy sound I would expect it to have, while the Taylor 814 sounds smaller and has the midrange boost that my ears associate with Taylors. They may have exaggerated the midrange-heavy sound a bit though. Overall they did a great job. But what I'm interested in is how it sounds when you record an IR image for your own guitar.
I have had this unit for 3 days. The first day I was so excited to try this out.... I only used the 15 presets. I was so disappointed. None of the presets made any of my guitars really stand out..... THEN!! today I experimented with the IR..... WOW! what a difference. 4 on my acoustic guitars (Martins, Cole Claks) really sing and sound acoustic through a PA. The quacking Piezzo pick ups now sound like they have been mic'd up. They are not 100% pefect, but alot better! Looking forward to experimenting further!
@@nomandad2000 Don't use it as I play with other pedals. My impression is that this pedal makes cheap pick ups sound o.k. but good pick ups (Cole Clark) don't need this unit. IR is fun , but it is a bit fiddly and there are some pedals that make my guitars sound good right out of the box. I'll probably sell this unit as it is in new condition.
the moment when u owned a cheap acoustic guitar but you want an expensive guitar sound. here's your solution. i wanna buy it very soon it fullfill my 3 needs : DI box, Reverb and IRs.. thanks for the video, really enjoy it!!
Hello :) I am really interested in the pedal. Any chance you know if I need a DI box if I had this pedal? My acoustic also runs into effect pedals. Many thanks.
@@devonjoubertmusic No DI box would be necessary as the pedal has a DI output so you can just plug the XLR directly into the pedal. It also has an effects loop so you can plug your guitar into the Optima Air then pass the signal to your other pedals and back the the Optima Air again for the output.
Just got mine and there's a lot you can do with this, setting your own presets is amazing. I have a boosted version of my main acoustic for solos right next to the preset for the standard main EQ. It's doubling as a boost pedal! Be sure to read the user manual, this is one of the best acoustic IR pedals on the market, especially considering how much cheaper it is from a Tonedexter.
I was debating on between this and the aura spectrum , I went ahead and grabbed the aura , some of the tones I’m hearing from this video really remind me of some of the tones I’m getting with the aura . I don’t think anyone could go wrong either way . Thanks for the video .
I get the idea that to get the most out of the Optima Air: rather than stick with the factory presets, you ideally need to capture your own IRs, most likely with the instruments you’ll use it with. As well as my acoustic guitars (Faith Saturn 6-string and Seagull S12 12-string), I’d love to try the Air with my Crafter M70E mandolin...
@@GregoryGuay I bought the Optima Air about a year ago (probably very soon after I posted that comment!), and captured IRs of my guitars and mandolin soon afterwards. It's a bit fiddly to do - I had to pull my mic and preamp out of "storage"! - but it works very well and sounds great. I use the Air regularly when playing acoustic guitar live, and would definitely recommend it if you have the budget.
I just bought a Godin xtSA which is a solid body guitar that has magnetic pickups and a piezo, which can be output separately. I have the Nux Stageman, and ran the Godin piezo through it and it sound good, but without as much body as I would like. I wonder if the Godin piezo would benefit from this pedal more (e.g. make it sound more acoustic). I plan on running the magnetic pickups through a modeler pedal, but want to preserve the ability to switch to an acoustic tone.
Since your guitar has the Roland GK compatible 13 pin output which uses the piezo have you considered a Roland GR-55 or Roland GP-10? The are guitar synthesizers with guitar modeling and they do an incredible job. You can set custom tunings and have a variety of instruments available including acoustic guitar including 12 string. In regards to your question directly I'm curious also if the piezo (Fishman piezo) on my guitar would sound more acoustic with this Nux unit and I'm sure it would help but although a piezo pick-up does a good job in trying to sound acoustic so far only an acoustic or guitar synth has been able to get that sound.
@@RaymondUpenieks I did eventually get this pedal, but also a GP-10. The COSM engine on the GP-10 actually has some very good acoustic sounds and there are some interesting mixing possibilities of combining the two together. I have added a mixer to my pedal board so that I can combine the sound together. The pedal does wonders, even for my Mandolins. My playing partner runs his Strat and Tele through before running it into a digital interface into his computer for the online jamming software we use Sonobus.
I tried this, and while at first it seems that it takes the piezo harshness out, when I used it live in my acoustic duo, all of the IR’s sounded super scooped and thin. Had to bypass it for the mids to help my guitar cut through
Thanks for this very nice and detailed overview! I was looking around a solution like this, and I came up with a (maybe tricky) question: does it make sense to connect a loop station to the send return of the Nux optima air in such a way to not loose the provided DI out? I would like to avoid buying a DI box, on the other hand I do not understand if the send return applies as last step in the signal chain (after preamp and IR section)... Thank you in advance
The J15 and HD28 sound the best in my opinion, thinking about getting this to record my acoustic guitar playing as I can't mic up my guitar due to the constant noise in my neighbourhood. Thoughts anyone? Edit: J15 3:55 HD28 5:21
Absolutely, this is a great option for recording. You can also tune each IR EQ in the stored presets so that you have multiple guitars to record instead of just the one that sounds best.
I just got mine yesterday and while messing with it I think I overwrote a preset. Does anyone know how to do a factory reset to get the preset back to the out of box setting?
Great demo. Is the Optima Air quiet? Have you noticed any weird digital artifacts with the IR's? Also, just to make sure I understand, you can control the blend of the original signal and IR using the gain (original signal) and IR level.......is that correct?
