Yours is the coolest and most creative demo I have seen of this pedal. Also, very natural and great guitar playing! Good info that goes way beyond the basic demos I have seen. Good work!

    Great product!
NUX is doing some amazing stuff. I have the Roctary Leslie pedal, absolutely authentic sound and it was inexpensive.

  • @Dakota.Covers

I have owned one for about two weeks now. I have used the pedal to capture three Taylor guitars and one Enya Uke. It is easy to use. More importantly, it sounds amazing! I am finally in love with the sound of my amplified acoustic guitars through the mixer based PA in my music room. It it makes my ukulele sound incredible as well. I can’t stop playing! Capturing a quality impulse response with a quality condenser microphone and positioning (and gain stage) is the key, I have had good customer service via email communication with Michael at NuX and he has been helpful and kind. Now, I just need to start using it for my video recordings as I capture my guitar directly (no mic) for my videos.

Dakota-Covers, can you tell me please if it's possible to mix the pickup's dry signal with the Ir's processed signal and blend them in different proportion? It is not clear to me if the Ir's volume knob can act like a blender. Thank you very much for your information.

    • @Dakota.Covers
      @Dakota.Covers 4 года назад +2

@@valeriolaghi7014 When the IR level knob is turned all the way down, there is still a little IR in the mix. The more you turn that IR knob up, the more IR you add to the mix with the pickup. When you turn the IR up, you need to turn the gain knob down because the volume increases. I tend to run my IR level at noon or lower. So, technically it is not a true blend knob but it does allow you to control how much IR is in the mix. Hopefully that answers your question.

I would like to connect the Nux optima air to a Pedalboard which will be connected to a tube guitar amp.
This Pedalboard is for electric and acoustic guitar. I have a few questions.
1: should I plug the Optima Air into the FX loop of the amp or rather directly between the amp and the guitar? What will be the advantages and disadvantages depending on my choice? This is the first time I've used this type of effect so I'd like to find out more.
2: the Optima Air has an effects loop.
I would like to insert an equalizer pedal into the optima air loop. This pedal will be "on" constantly. Will this equalizer pedal be audible if the optima air is turned off ? I ask because the goal is to have equalization that is only audible when the Optima Air is "on" and inaudible if the Optima Air is turned "off"
3: is the Nux optima air “true by-pass” or does it have a buffer?
    thank you...
    Michael

For those who want a better impression of what the pedal can truly due, try this channel to which I am a subscriber: Aaron Short Music. He creates an IR on camera and also compares it to one he created previously, as well as to the original Piezo and and original mic signal, and to various IR presets on the unit when shipped. I think he does a better job of truly showing this device‘s potential, even though it‘s great to witness the engineer‘s obvious commitment to and passion for the product. I only recently got turned onto NUX, in a video on the Cerberus (another really cool product, I‘m sure!). Back to Aaron Short: I think the way he strums the guitar when creating the IR led to far better (as in, more accurate) results. I suspect that the rather hectic way the engineer strummed his guitar, with more emphasis on the treble than the bass strings, might not be the best way to do it.

I really enjoy this pedal. Tremendous improvement for live acoustic guitar. I use it together with a "normal" DI pedal. But it bailed twice on me during a live gig. At first it sounds like a guitar with a battery going flat but it's a digital glitch. unplugging and plugging in power. Is this familiar to anyone reading this? thanks

    • @ElcoWeitering

it has XLR/DI out but FOH usually also ask for a signal without IR treatment. So I send out both signals. DI straight from my wireless unit and a XLR out from the end of my signal chain (in this case a NUX Optima Air). I've upgraded to a LR Baggs voiceprint a while ago. Still love the NUX Optima Air but the display is too hard for me to read onstage. The LR Baggs allows easy IR creating and EQ shaping but it's mostly the same pedal. But the main thing for me are it's clockradio digits :)

hi, everyone, let me share with you some of my NUX Optima Air experiences.
i have been using it for a while now.
i have some promising audio results, but i have also encountered a few problems/bugs.
i have sent the below info to NUX ( info@cherubtechnology.com ), in February,
but have not received a reply from them so far.
    1. the device froze at the very first startup, maybe because of a ground loop through usb.
    2. the IR level pot is actually a total volume level pot, and not a dry-IR blend, as i have presumed,
and many users on the web seem to (quite logically) presume.
    3. there is confusion as to which knobs (on the device and in the control sw screen) are saved
as part of a preset, and how to save them:
3.A: the IR level knob at the top of the screen is actually not programmable at all, so you
better not try programming it - just set it at a well-thought-out level, and leave it there for good.
3.B: the IR level can in fact be programmed for each patch in the control software,
by moving the little IR level pot at the upper left of the IR subwindow.
but beware that once you move it, it instantly gets saved into the active patch,
so you cannot undo the move, not even by recalling that patch.
    4. the 'edited state' asterisk in the screen tends to behave erratically:
you can theoretically return to an unedited state of a knob by turning it until the asterisk disappears.
however, if you have already moved some knobs, and have returned them to their unedited state
(so that there is again no asterisk displayed), and then start turning the next knob,
you may not be able to make the asterisk disappear again (and thus you may lose the original setting
indication), because, apparently, the device sometimes perceives some other, previously
moved knob to have been moved again, even if you have not touched that other knob again.
    5. when recording a custom IR file, it is very hard to determine the input level of the miked instrument
in the display, because the level meter seems to have a really weird response curve.
    6. after recording, computing and storing az IR file on the device, it returns to the levels screen,
and you can again press the IR footswitch for a countdown, but the normally cca 10s recording time is now
skipped, and the device proceeds to offering you to analyze a recording that it hasn't even made.
so you have to reboot the device (left footswitch held) before attempting EACH custom IR recording.
    definitely a weird bug.
    7. i could find no controls in the software or on the device to name a user-created IR file.
the user manual does not tell you either.
it should be possible because the Chinese guy in the NUX factory product video has his custom IR files named,
but he does not show us how he did that.
    8. it is not indicated anywhere how you can check your firmware version.
    9. there are no instructions for the firmware update procedure, although it requires some
    very special button presses.
(so i made a description of the update procedure, partly derived from other NUX device
    instructions; see my notes below).
    10. there is no mentioning of USB audio in the manual: i only guessed it existed because seeing
some usb audio controls in the control sw, and because of the ASIO driver listed in the
download section of the NUX Optima Air site. (having an ASIO driver there did not, by itself mean
to me that i can use it, because there also is an audio format converter sofware there
that has apparently nothing to do with the Optima Air.)
    11. it is nowhere indicated if the aux input or the headphones output or the digital reverb are
stereo or mono. i have tested the headphone out and the reverb: those both turned out to be mono.
    12. the usb audio stream to the headphones is also mono.
    13. it is nowhere indicated if the device is capable or not of true analog bypass,
and if not, what the processing latency is.
    14. the user manual contains some sentences in poor English.
    -----------------------------------------
    NUX Optima Air
    firmware update procedure
    (2021-02-21)
    1. download firmware update package.
    2. connect device to computer using usb (micro B) cable.
    3. run updater software from the downloaded package.
    4. holding down both foot-switches of the device, plug in power supply.
    5. the updater software will now recognize the device.
    6. select new firmware .bin file in the software.
    7. click START UPDATE button.
    8. update progress is visible on the device screen.
    9. when process is ready, firmware version (date) is displayed.
    10. reboot device (by unplugging and reconnecting power supply).
