I completely agree with you Thomas. It's really hard to play fun decks when the majority are playing mono red. I end up going meta by building decks designed to just beat mono red and it takes the fun out of it. Love your work Sloth. I will try this deck out and looking forward to your new suggestions.
I don't mind going up against Valgavoth; you just have to run sweepers. There's so many creatures now that trade n-for-1 against targeted removal via offspring, graveyard loops, dies triggers, ETB triggers, combat triggers, ward, etc. that I find mono-red is one of the few matchups where I actually want it in my hand instead of a sweeper. I'm experimenting with Orzhov Control lately with 0 targeted removal and 20+ sweepers. 60% winrate so far. It is definitely worse vs. mono-red but with 4 split up and 4 temporary lockdown it can hold its own against other aggro & midrange decks and will occasionally steal a win from mono-red. Playing Split Up against an opponent that reanimated Valgavoth is so satisfying.
Valhavoth, in timeless turn one (with good hand) = insta scoop. In turn 2 usually also. What makes him so good is sacrifice 3 ward and stealing discarded cards. I love this dude. Yesterday I stole Nine lives from a dude, he wiped the board and then played Solemnity. I almost died of laughter. He didnt have anything to destroy own enchantment, but didnt want to scoop either so for 30 turns he was bashing me for no dmg. And he lost because of no cards in deck. GG

I so much miss "them good old times" when you could build up and slog it out... when Magic was still more of a "the Gathering". Nowadays it's win or loose on turn 3-4. Yay power creep.
I think it's the main problem with arena. There is no "gathering" element. No chat, no friend add system, no option to just not play against a deck. At a LGS hardly anyone plays mono red agro, because no one will play against them. Friendly games of magic are actually friendly with people matching their decks up to have a good game. Arena has killed that, but it's soooo much cheaper than trying to collect physical cards, and so much quicker to get a game, so here we are, playing crappy games of magic against tryhard turn 3 combo decks. Smh. Such a shame.

I'm not sure - that was the only card that I considered switching - in theory it is perfect, but usually it just doesn't do much, either dying or being reduntant as we have rite of the moth. So my initial thought was to replace it with removal vs aggro decks - but wasn't 100% sure if it won't hurt value matchups. But yeah, I think faithfuls potentially should be replaced, rest of the deck handles reanimation plan well enough :)

That's so interesting - I honestly never seen much graveyard hate in my ladder - it's mostly just mass removal vs red decks. I think I didn't see black leyline more than once in total, not even sure if this one time happened:) Urborg Scavenger is also card I've seen only once in new standard, in single game. But yeah, all of those decks were definitely hurt by Valgavoth :D

Unless youre really mad at reanimator decks because thats just a dead card otherwise. Ive ran into Soul cauldron as well as the new artifact that taps to exile from GY. It makes me want to run Live or Die for instant speed reanimation.
Excuse me, I just spent all my wildcards because i was fascinated by this deck; first match, opponent on turn 1 played an enchantment: "Rest in peace" (all cards go exiled instead of the graveyard); tried to use the mirror to look for any cards, result: NO CARD in the deck is able to destroy it. I was dreaming to win on turn 4, seems i just lost on turn 1.
That's so peculiar, I don't thin I ever played against deck that has rest in peace maindeck 😂 However, black layline is more popular - you can just add get losts instead of other removal, and voilla ❤🦥

True, this type of answer is never fun :D I guess at that point, it's best to stack vault's tresures, and just hard cast all threats. Most Deadly cover ups exile Valgavoth or Atraxa, so usually you just try to hit the other one :)
@@zeusalternative1270 I considered adding this to get around the instant graveyard removal (Agatha's Soul Cauldron etc.) All the other reanimate effects are sorcery speed so its really hard to play around this.
Omg, 13-0 in ranked..got bored of winning..but this one game, oh myyy.. 😅 Played against a blue deck, he did 2 Jaces on his turn , minused X=5 with my Valgovith on battlefield, then on my turn I started milling him 30 cards and playing his cards at which point he conceded.. 😅❤️😅🤗

It's always a question of amount of mono red vs rest of the decks - but definitely edicts got a prime target in this set with Valgavoth. Liliana is great middle ground, as she's so versatile :)
Hasn’t even be a week since it released. But gotta acknowledge that there’s 2 cards that instantly defeat the deck. That’s a big risk. And if reanimators get popular then more people will begin running these hard counters. On the very least deck should run a couple ways to get rid of enchantments
@@Eleiem Yeah, nothing Get Lost can solve, but in BO1 these cards will never be played, they're too limited in what they do. I mean, good luck with your Leyline turn 1 against anything but Reanimator. It's like taking an extra mulligan for no reason.

Someone (might have been CGB) recently talked about how he set up a discord section for deck submissions pretty much just to get people to stop spamming them everywhere else, so it could be that MTG RUclipsrs are a bit tired of it... 🙂

I like having the white and black overlords in the deck. That way you can bargain them to beseech the mirror.

I love trying to play ranked and make progress and literally being dealt fatal on turn 2-3 to a Leyline mono red deck. Like it’s genuinely so fun

I’m trying to work on a Esper Valgavoth pile. With the new lands 3 colors are very doable now

I faced decks like this with my mono black mill deck, Deadly covering up the rite of the moth is hilarious

So it's like an untapped discover land. And the card you want to discover for is always on top.

Our idea is that we outvalue aggro, with turn 4 reanimations - but you can experiment with others styles, they should also work decently
