    Thanks for the vid, and it's one of the rare times I enjoyed hearing someone "talk" about disc golf. The format and news-like delivery was a breath of fresh air.
    I'm seeing the same stuff in my Trail, but the straightest disc I have by a long shot is the fission Wave on a low flip up. That thing can go 300' on a rope. Trick is the perfect flip and keeping the height low.
    What I love about the trail is basically it's a stretched out Crave that doesn't keep on lifting throughout the flight which makes it great for shots that have low ceilings halfway down the fairway. Also love the Trail for big flip up hyzer bombs. No chance of it turning at the top, it just flips up, rides, then comes back for easy hyzer distance. The Trail made my bag in the first weekend I had it.

  • @RINGOMONJ
    @RINGOMONJ 3 месяца назад +9

    I think a good data point for flight numbers would be a reference @distance in a neutral situation (flat land, no wind, low altitude) that a disc would be expected to show the flight numbers. For example if you need to throw it 400' to get the flight numbers, people that can't throw that far would know they won't get those numbers...

    • @RINGOMONJ
      @RINGOMONJ 3 месяца назад +1

      I'm not sure what the distance expectation is for a 10 speed disc in those neutral settings for example.

    The Trail and the Beast are very similar, but the trail glides and pushes further. Even when dumping more power into the trail it will still fly further; wheras the Beast doesn't seem to respond with further distance as efficiently. If you can increase spin along with power the trail seems to just go and go and go without turning and burning. The Trail truly is in a class of its' own. A phenomenal disc.

    I think your point about the Trail is correct: Because of your limitations with your elbow and your slower speed, you were still able to throw straight-ish. Most disc golfers are about there in arm speed, so it's a friendly disc for them. By the way, Conrad line is the GOAT. Nomad, Envy, Detour, Trail, Zenith, and Terra.

    Brand new it fades a little bit, but when worn out it is ACTUALLY straight, no left to right movement at all.

    The reality of "straight discs" is that it entirely depends on the person throwing and the wind, which means the flight numbers are not fixed or the same even for each person. The best thing reviewers can do, IMO, is compare it to several other discs and let us know if it's more or less stable than those. If Caleb reviews the Buzzz, with no comparisons, then I'm just assuming the review is irrelevant to me because my arm speed is so much slower than his. But if he reviews it and says it's in between a Detour and an Emac Truth, I know exactly how it will fly for me, even if it flies different for him. You either need to find reviewers that give comparisons, or find people with the same arm speed as you. Otherwise it's still just guess work. Which is why I love the "flight numbers don't matter series". I'm always familiar with at least a few of the discs, which allows me to know how the ones I"m not familiar with will fly for me. Flight numbers don't matter!

    • @brandoncrawford8133

      I agree with the "flight numbers don't matter", but there's a reason he made a video about the trail. It's freaking special and I've seen guys who throw 500 plus and 275 + say all wonderful things about it. It flies true.

    • @TheTiredWanderer
      @TheTiredWanderer 3 месяца назад +2

      another important thing to mention is arm speed and rpm (launch angle/nose angle are also good averages to know). gathering a person's average on a tech disc and saying one person throws 62mph 1200 spin and the other throws 71 mph and 1300 spin (both at opposite launch/nose angles) is gonna show two different flights entirely. it is easier for the viewer to know what their reviewer has when they are up front with their metrics. nothing wrong with throwing at 50-55mph but as soon as you start discing into the 10-13sp category with a positive nose angle, any disc at that speed stalls and fades out faster.

    Funnily enough, speaking of straight discs, the straightest disc in my bag right now is an Innova Star Starfire (10/5/0/3) that I’ve had for probably 10 years and broken in significantly. It’s hard to get it to turn over and float right, but you can easily push that angle and get it to ride straight for 70-80% of the flight before it curves off fairly sharp to the left.

    i love the informative nature of this video and think it is clutch for helping people make bag/purchase decisions. I hope you take care of your elbow and do some good exercises for it! another thing I'd like to see is a bit of tech disc measurement of your average throw so it can help illustrate what you throw like generally. if I measured myself at 65mph and 1250 RPM with consistent negative nose angle, I'd like to know if you reach the same and then could expect that your assessment would be similar to mine. if your speed/spin/nose angle is different than mine on average, it changes a lot of what I'm watching. Looking forward to watching the next series and thumbs up on the excellent content.

      Yeah I love my Wave too. As a typical 325-350ft thrower it’s perfect. It absolutely bombs straight. However as Christopher said I’ve noticed that it does get understable on those throws that I really get ahold of it. This is why I keep a TimeLapse in the bag. I know it wont go as far but It will never turn over completely. I did recently get a Trail and I’ve been really impressed with it’s flights. There is a good chance it’ll replace the wave. It goes as far if not farther and doesn’t have the understable tendencies on those shots where everything clicks in my admittedly not perfect form.

    You guys should consider comparing durability of different plastics. For example, I wonder how durable the outer edge of the mvp gyro discs are compared to other brands' premium plastic like halo plastic from Innova. The gyro plastic has been proven not to extend the flight, so I wonder if it actually lowers the durability because it feels like it's baseline. The Clash discs tone plastic would be another one to compare.

    Good, informative vid. Finding decent fairway drivers is one of the hardest things to do in disc golf. I bet every DGer goes through at least several different molds before they find one that really works.
    The Trail really is a great disc, especially for people with slower arm speed. It'll turn a bit without getting flippy, glides great, and has a very soft late fade. I've put the Trail out to 450'. It'll take power reliably, but also powers DOWN well and stays straight. Very versatile disc. Frankly, I think it flies a little too far to be considered a fairway driver. IMO the Trail is a far better version of the Insanity.

    I am a beginner. My favorite disc so far is Viking Discs - Cosmos - Storm with numbers 7/5/0/1 because even with my slow arm and poor torque it flies 60m straight with just a tiny bit of fade in the end (my normal range so far is 65-75 m, occasionally over 80m). I am comfortable with backhand and my throw isn't always flat but more "almost flat" but I can manage to throw that disc (RHB) with anhyzer to nice rightwards curve. I don't use it for leftwards curves, because they have another disc similar in numbers Viking Disc - Barbarian 7/5/0/2 and the difference in fade is very significant - this one never fail to fade in the end.
    I wonder if you can get yourself one Cosmos and test its flight straightness.
    I tried to buy Trail Special Edition for the sake of the stamp only, but it is not available any more except on the ebay for high price 😵‍💫, so I found myself two of the last ordinary Trails 😃 (even when I only have up to 9-speeds in my bag so far)

    DGA is underrated but I feel like they need to work on their flight numbers. I bought a pipeline (8/5/0/2) and it flies more like (8/5/-1/1.5), maybe even more understable sometimes. Anyways great video as always!

    For me I’ve had a Halo Star Mamba (I think it was 170g-ish) and I have a Halo Roadrunner 174g that fly pretty straight. Now, for reference, I just started about 6 months ago. If I get a good rip, then I can typically get them to about 350 feet, with my record being about 380.

    The H3v2 is super straight, I’ve bagged one all year and it’s my go-to in the woods. Air plastic is flippier of course, the 400 is perfect

    I've been throwing an Orc as my straight 10 speed for several years but it's starting to get a bit too flippy. I just got a Trail to see how it fits in this slot. I also want to get a Gorgon for comparison. Another very straight 10 speed I threw for a long time was the Westside Northman, but those are hard to find anymore.

    It flies exactly like my old teebird, which I trust more after 2 years of consistent flight than how this disc flies out the box.

    Greg, have you considered throwing some lighter discs? The consistent fade that you experience seems to suggest that your arm speed and disc weight are not matching.

    I max out at around 300 feet and the Streamline Jet (11, 5, -3, 2) flies dead straight for me with almost no fade. Obviously the numbers are off. The I-Blend Sphinx is an absolute laser! It really blew me away. The S-Blend is way more overstable. The older domey DGA SAILs can fly for miles 3 feet off the ground. I think the tournament series SAILs have similar dome but they're only available in max weights.

    I'm 65 years old and the the MVP Wave in Fission plastic 11/5/-2.5/2 flies straight for me. I also throw an Axiom Insanity 9/5/-2.5/1.5 in Fission plastic that goes straight for me. I find the MVP and Axiom discs to be better for me in Fission plastic. I think the gyro works for better in Fission with my old man power. I would have been interested in the Trail but I often have my doubts about any Pro's signature discs, they tend to be more stable than the numbers would indicate. I should not really be throwing anything faster than a 9 speed disc anyway but stumbled upon the Fission Wave. The Cosmic Neutron Wave works for my son (flex shots) who is way stronger than me.

    Didn't watch the full video yet, but did you ever take a look at the Thought Space Athletics Construct. I am throwing it since a little bit over 2 years in Ethereal Plastic and it is a straight flying Distance Driver. TSA is using some MVP molds and they are produced by MVP.
    It has 6 Glide but I also hear people say the Trail has more like 6 Glide, also the Construct doesn't really fly for me like it has 2 Fade, more like 1 or so. I compared it to a friends Trail and they look very similar.
    Would be interesting to really compare these two, I think. Even before the trail was released and people waited for it I said to them, just try the TSA Construct, I wouldn't be surprised if it even uses a mold that MVP was at least thinking about using it for the Trail.

    Sporting the trail, can't wait to get one beat in/getting different plastics and cycling in more. Will kick some competition out of the bag for sure.
    Dunno how innova corvettes usually are but I have a flat as a board star corvette which is ridiculously straight 90% of the flight before a gentle fade. Such wide rims are not the best for my stubby fingers so I'd Imagine someone without that problem will get some turn out of it (and distance naturally).

    I don’t overly love the trail. Maybe it’s just me but the rim is thin and on backhand it always early releases (comes out of my hand early) great forehand disc but I’ve got that slot covered already. It’s good don’t get me wrong but I’m not replacing any discs in may bag for it.
