A huge thank you to Brad and Chad for showing me so much of the process! Thank you to everyone who considers supporting on Patreon at www.patreon.com/smartereveryday
This is way more in depth than How It's Made and more personal. I like that you meet all the employees no matter how small their job is in the over all company.
Destin is one of the few channels that can put up a 2+ hour video that makes me not believe 2 hours just went by and I even want more. I still go back to most of ‘em too because they never cease to fascinate me the granularity with which you can cover a topic that still feels like it’s just a quick overview.
I started playing disc golf shortly after your first video from MVP posted. In four months I'm hooked. Love the MVP family of discs and have been awaiting this video with so much anticipation!!
I went disc golfing with my bro-in-law right before the first MVP video came out. I bought an MVP starter set and my kids and I now go as often as we can.
Couldn't sleep last night - put on this 2.5hr video about Disc Golf (I don't play) and I watched the whole thing. I'm writing this the next day, tired as heck but I can describe in great detail how Disc Golf discs are made. I LOVE these long form deep-dives, and your excitement over the Volcano was fantastic!
If you haven't tried it, give Disc Golf a try! It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I've never found any activity/sport that is more perfect. Outdoors in natural environments, birds singing, throwing discs 300ft and watching them glide and turn, the joy of getting it in the basket on a long throw, the fun of trying new discs and the variety of discs with so many different shapes and ways you can throw them, just as fun to play alone as it is with friends, no top limit (you can always improve so it keeps my interest),etc. It's wonderful!
Watching this video I feel like it would be great to work with this company. It's rare these days to see companies owned and operated by people who genuinely care and are passionate about their business. And very rare to see people willing to train up and invest in their employees.
@@PicardoFamily11 Unfortunately, there are videos talking about disc golf companies making cuts to stay in business. Those videos/podcasts explain it better than I can.
This video was awesome. Coincidentally I bought my first MVP disc a few days ago. After watching this and seeing the passion the owners have for the sport, I definitely want to support the company more.
The fact that they are not willing compromise by adding to the amount of micro plastics in our environment is commendable! The black cores with the neon over mold's are my favorite color combos. I even like them more now knowing they are the recycled plastics from their production line. All around great video! One of the few out there that I will watch more than once!
I cannot describe how much I love this second channel. How manufactures work is so interesting. So many challenges and as many brilliant persons able to take on them.
Most interesting video I have watched in the last 5 years. Love the long form! As someone who finds manufacturing fascinating and an avid disc golfer, this was a perfect marriage of 2 interests. Def got my sub.
Please do a video on McMaster-Carr. Their ability to receive, inventory, pick and ship so many unique parts and never seem to get an order wrong is incredible. Love to see the behind the scenes.
Awesome video. Never realized the amount of detail involved in what I thought was a simple disk. I really enjoyed taking this trip with you. I started out knowing nothing of the process and now have a general understanding of what is really involved to get to the final product. I love these long detailed videos . Thanks to you, Brad and Chad for giving us this opportunity to learn about their passion.
More long videos like this please.. Your voice is like honey to me. Not only is it soothing to listen to, but I always learn something when I tune into your channel. I still keep your hand written letter pinned to my desk.
Destin - I work in design injection molded parts; I also started watching disc golf while I was taking a homework break while studying for my mechanical engineering degree. I've played for years now, I love it. This video was SWEET. Overmolding is really cool, a lot of this is really valuable information I had wondered about but would not have seen the processes to without your video. For example, the plastic flow index testing and the moisture content testers, that was really sweet. The metrology as well. Awesome 2.5 hours! I'd watch more of it haha
I don't play disc golf, probably never will. But I thoroughly enjoyed this video. The brothers seem very genuine and such a great pair of guys; their whole company and everyone there was great. Thanks for another amazing video Destin! Can't wait for more like this one.
This is coolest thing I've ever seen. I grew up watching your channel with my dad and over the last few years I have gotten super into disc golf (and MVP specifically) so this is like a dream combination!
I learned a ton from this video. I'm a 25 year veteran in operations and IT leadership and I really yearn to know more about manufacturing, the hands on stuff has always been the most fun in my career. Injection molding is fascinating stuff.
Thanks Destin! It's always great to tag along your visit and thought process through the visit. As a software engineer, I sometimes go visit clients and their factory and you inspire me to be curious of the process, the details and all the work and progress they went through!
I LOVE watching the "How It's Made" series and this video is the Super Bowl Performance! It's late tonight and I've got to go to bed but I copied the link and included the time stamp where I stopped and will be back tomorrow. I'm an hour in and can't wait to finish it. Destin, thanks for posting this long version. BTW, I grew up on the outskirts of Flint, MI and using GoogleMaps their company is only 55 minutes from my boyhood home. EDIT - I finished this first thing this morning (I'm retired) and was totally amazed at not just the process but the willingness of Brad and Chad to open the shop to you and us!
I NEVER there was so much technology and science into making a PROPER golf disc! Thank you for these more in depth (nerdy) deep dives. And I know what brand of discs I'm buying next.❤
I started throwing MVP just because I liked the discs, but watching this I really feel like I made a good choice. I appreciate the brothers and how they've done things. I enjoy players like James and Eagle and Simon, and its really really cool to see the engineering behind this all .
Weeeell worth the wait, and the watch was even better! I'll add to those few dozen, and ask for you to pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pleeeeeeeease look at the physics of a disc golf disc👀
I was 6 1/2, summer of 1957. My Dad Brought home 2 Frisbee's for me and my younger Brother. It's been a love affair ever since and at 74(almost) I still throw for recreation. Never Played Disc Golf, but I have many Golf Disks which I use as throwing weapons. We set up targets and Throw Drivers and Boomerang's that are designed for Straight Flight at targets 30 yards away on hay bales. The Disc's are thrown with a side arm throw and can be extremely damaging. Great Fun! I also Installed and maintained Plastic Injection Molding Machines for General Motors.
I’d love to see another deep dive on disc golf explaining the physics, aeronautics, etc. behind what makes different discs fly the way they do. Why players would want “domey” discs, etc. I love disc golf and these videos are fantastic. Also, where is the custom SmarterEveryDay stamped disc???
I sometimes watch factory process videos on RUclips, especially for processes I haven't seen before, but they hardly explain stuff. I've watched every single one of your main channel videos for nearly 10 years. You should make more factory videos to feed my nerd hunger and ideas for my actual job lol
I work in the injection molding field and I just want to say thank you Dustin I enjoyed this and the Kodak video very much, seeing a little of what I do for a living on RUclips was very cool
It’s always interesting to see how each factory does their work. This facility is very clean and logically laid out. It’s almost like injection molding runs in the family!
Thanks for posting this. I never considered just how much engineering goes in to the design and manufacturing process of a golf disc. Out of curiosity, did they tell you how many employees they have? And how large is their building?
From researching, plastic dust can be reused by using a machine called a plastic extruder to melt the plastic dust, and finally, force the molten plastic through a die to cut it into small, cylindrical pellets; this process is often referred to as "plastic pelletizing.".
I have a degree in robotics and automation, and this was awesome to watch. This is a place I would love to work at. Just got in to disc golf about a year ago as well! 1:44:27
I've been waiting for this since the main video dropped! I'm a big fan of MVP, but wanted to better understand what they're doing with injection molding. MY experience in engineering is internal combustion, so finding out more about other disciplines is always a treat.
I love to see the process of making the discs I throw and how all the technical difficulties are overcome! I really like the longer in depth format and especially look forward to the Bible verse at the end. Keep up the good work Destin!
The science behind getting from point A to point B with a disc is far more intricate than players think of. Add weather, user skill level, and course layout with a dash of mental game and voilah, you have a sport called disc golf. I love what I'm seeing!
i didn't know i needed to spend two and a half hours watching a video about a manufacturing process i'm not interested in for products for a sport i'm not interested in. but i did, and i don't regret it.

a lot of similarity with lost wax investment casting
why would you upload this again weve already seen this before
I’m not sure I’ve ever nerded out this much on a video 👏 Seriously thank you all for making this possible! -Jesse
nerdgasm for sure
As much as I like MVP, give me a Trash Panda DG and Smarter Every Day collab disc!
I would love to hear your reaction to this video in a trash panda video
Any chance trash panda can use the plastic dust? Or come up with a solution for it.
Are you guys related to the Rocket City Trash Pandas? (Minor League baseball team)

Haha, I started playing because the first MVP video also!

Holy Cow!!! I can't believe how much I enjoyed this video! Not a disc golfer but watching people geek out on their passions is always amazing!

MVP discs are legit.. so nice, one of my favorite brands. Thanks for covering this Destin!
I cannot describe how much I love this second channel. How manufactures work is so interesting. So many challenges and as many brilliant persons able to take on them.
I still get goosebumps watching the holy shot
hands down the best disc golf company completely changed my game
19:45 there’s dozens of us!
Lmfao, love the content!
Smarter Every Day / MVP is the greatest collab
I doubt other manufacturers take the process nearly this far. Feels like these guys are giving a huge lesson to their competitors here.

What a treat this video was! I loved every second of this.
The plastic pellets handling system is so cool! What an amazingly simple yet intricate system to handle the raw materials.

Hi Destin! Can you answer what would happen to a disc thrown in a vacuum? Would it turn left or right, or just go straight since there's no air?
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS
Dude, so sick to hear that I'm not the only one learning about disc physics from the heli dyna series, let alone this giant!
Woah, as a huge mvp and disc golf fan thanks for this video

Disc golf is the epitome of "easy to learn, hard to master". And that's why I absolutely love it. Not to mention, the disc golf community is amazing.
I waited for ever for this one
Been waiting for this…if you’re ever in New England and you want to play, I normally listen to No Dumb Questions on the course. You need a winged Hassar disc stamp.
I’m glad I held off on watching the tour until now. Lucked into it!
As a disc dyer I enjoy getting to see the ins and outs of how their discs are made seeing as I work so closely with so many of their products.
Being a disc golfer and working in Tool an Die shop this has made me nerd out so much.
This is the epitome of the American Dream, and you absolutely love to see it. Hope these guys continue to crush.
since you are clearly willing to travel to MI, I wanted to offer to you the ability to connect with me and a few other elite level trampolinists. we want to cover the physics of trampoline. huge opportunity for learning, and I have direct access (and could share with you) to the factory where the string-bed trampolines are made, as well as the spring factory, as well as a gymnasium we could film and setup for slow-mo shots. We could display triple flips, lots of twisting mechanics, 22+ feet high bouncing, etc. Love all the content!
This is so cool to watch!
So thankful the main channel video popped up today can’t wait to see this
This was great, thank you for uploading it!!!
Edit: 2:20:24 🤌 that sound
