Making Dub Techno with a Modular Synth

- It's nice to switch things up sometimes to get out of your comfort zone and try new things. I love dub techno, and although I don't own a poly synth, I though it was still a lot of fun to make some on the modular, with a little help from Ableton and some outboard too. Here's a little video documenting the process.

Wow, this is so cool. Thank you!
You’re welcome ! I’m stepping on your toes here really :)
What an excellent demonstration of how to do these chords. I will need to try this asap.
I've got a similar Verbos rig - super cool! I dig your use of white noise in the S&P
Very nice
stay in dub area for a while ;)
Excellent stuff as always!
Gorgeous rig... beautiful tones & textures Lucas !
thanks !
Love this patch from scratch
Sounds an like early Pole (1/2/3 era) and Wolfgang Voigt collab. Nicely done!
Both of my fav's so thanks a lot !
Thanks again for your content!!! Respect.
Excellent, thank you
Interesting to follow the entire process :)
Great content!
great tutorial as always! Amazing sound at the end of your video! For the possibilies of the modular I have an eye on the Doepfer quad precision vco. Seems ideal for chords. For quantizing I can recommend O_C (Ornament & Crime) with its 4 channels its ideal for that kind of stuff. You just need to send 1 cv to it and spread it across the channels with transposing per channel in key. ace! But I see your case is already full anyway :)
23:08 Xaoc Devices Kamieniec ) Hi. By the way, they have all the modules named after the name of the cities of Eastern Europe. so maybe you'll find it easier to pronounce kA-mie-niets between the letters I and E use a glide ) or more easier kA-me-nets. this word means a small piece of stone
Oh yeah I know they name their modules after cities in Eastern Europe which is great ! I just don't know how to pronounce them apparently ahah. The meaning is funny and makes so much sense as the "small stone" is also a very well known phaser pedal :)
Your videos is making me really crave getting back into modular. I have some questions:
-How much time have you spent on researching/buying modules? 10 years? 15?
-Approximately how much money have you put into your current setup? (I realize that this video is a year old and that your config has probably changed since then).
Just trying to get a rough estimate on what I'd be looking at in terms of time and money before I'd have a setup where I could jam out some ideas for deep/fast hypnotic techno that I could bring back into Ableton to work on it further. I also realize that modular synthesis is often called a "black hole" of music production - that one can often end up spending more time researching modules, buying/selling and trying out various setups etc than actually making music. Fwiw I've been making music for over 10 years at this point in time, owned a small modular setup which I sold in favor for a Moog Sub37 which I then later sold to finance other stuff etc.
Love your content and it's very inspiring!
not knowing the exact price of every single module but I would say around 10k, probably between 10-15k. I own half the space with cheaper modules and mine is 5k+ so I think 10-15 sounds right.
You can go to modular grid and fill 4 rows of 104hp with verbos and see what it costs at the bottom of the rig.
Verbos doesn't have enough modules to research 10-15 years though :)
Good Stuff! Subbed! 😁👊
That filter processor sounds so good. Shame it's almost 900eu. Lovely setup though.
I'm looking for some good modular FX, a phaser / chorus / etc. I couldn't really see it, but do you have some in your case that you're really happy with?
Recently bought the Alpha Base as well, what a great sounding machine.
The bark is amazing, 100% worth the €. I don’t have many euro fx apart from the Verbos Delay and the XAOC Kamieniec Phaser (which I use in the video). Both are great ! The phaser is due for a standalone demo actually :)
yeah verbos modules are jewels...
@@LucasMarchal yes please to the Kamieniec demo! excited for my shapeshifter to touch down for these chord atmospheres soon.
Nice Job! Next time the opposite with raw techno ;-)
there are a few on the subject ! check my Loop1 and A Request track breakdown ;)
So good!
