LOL @ 46:33 you can see some stage diver get caught in Layne's cord and rips the mic out of his hands. Then Layne skillfully reels it back in and nails the next verse like a fucking badass! XD
jó szem
He was like WTF, give me that mic back! 🤣
And no one was offended! Imagine that! I miss those years... 😢
It's amazing how these people are witnessing a show with songs that would be forever etched in rock music's legacy... and they have no clue.
Yesssss !!
thats insane to think of it like that
Allen Vrabac Typical youtube dick comment. What are you babbling about..., the crowd was cool enough to check out an unknown band. I bet they enjoyed the set as well and bought the record when it came out. They can say they were there and all you can comment on is about how clueless they were. Apparently they were not.
TrixiLovesYou You are reading it completely wrong, skewing the tone of my sentence. I bet the lot of them liked it, I'm just saying how huge they later became to be and yet these people are witnessing them in their infant stage of infamy, bands from "around the block" so to speak. Just a fascinating perspective, nothing negative about it.
TrixiLovesYou Your comment was the "dick" comment
eddie was stll shy here you can tell
+trey burke Adorably shy!
God. Layne's voice is so powerful that he can cause distortion in the microphone. Impressive
Came here to say that too 😄
@@elizabethanderson4460 e eu concordo 😊
Anyone can do that with a crappy mix lol
I wish I was ALIVE in the 90s in Seattle, in high school.
I was born in '86 and remember Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. When I was 7 years old, I thought it was the heaviest stuff out there.
Pearl Jam Punk this was felt all over north America, trust me;) ( I graduated highschool in 93.canadian)
Mike Seaquest Yes so true!! The scene exploded quickly and there were an astounding number of great bands that saved us from hair bands. I graduated HS in '93 in Pennsylvania. Best time of my life and the music was a soundtrack to my life. I know I'm not alone with that
greeenpro . So true!! I also graduated HS in 93 from NYC. Absolutely the best times to b alive if ur a fan of this music!! I can remember Nirvanas "Teen Spirit" video being on MTV it seemed like 10 times a hour. Lol. Only band I saw i got 2 see live was Candlebox, was a great show!! RIP Layne,Chris, and Kurt, u r all missed!!
Mike Seaquest I swear man we were the luckiest generation..
AIC is on a whole different level. They had the perfect combination of musicianship and sheer vocal power. Truly a phenomenon.
100%
Who ever recorded this and had the inner beauty to share this friggin masterpiece, thank you!
Exactly!
Eddie's just one of those guys that can sound exact;y like the record seemingly with ease. Incredibly gifted, no way he was never going to make it in the business
So PJ opened for Alice in Chains. Cool :)
AIC returning a favour for Ament & Gossard having them open for Mother Love Bone
Because ALICE IN CHAINS is BEST BAND IN WORLD!!! pra mim sempre será a melhor banda da era grunge.FROM SOUTH WORLD GOOD BLESS LAYNE
+Filipe Rosa / 👏👏 AIC. lejos mejor que PJ. aquí ya se notó, la guitarra de Cantrell valía por las 3 de P.J. AIC, rockearon con más calidad
and Mad Season...
@@veroluisacarra4364 you're so funny and patetic. 😂😂😂😂
Just an off hand observation. Layne headbanging and then going right into vocals & Jerry headbanging and playing guitar at the same time. I've done some headbanging at concerts, and just staying upright is hard, as you get a bit disoriented (ive fallen over!). So the fact these 2 are able to do what they do while flailing around, is EPIC.
Damn! Give mike starr some spotlight too... the guy deserved it, his bass lines were powerful
That singer from Alice in Chains has a fantastically beautiful and powerful voice !!! I'll have to look up their music and take a listen.
Enjoy... You're about to become a lifelong fan.
Youll be doing yourself the biggest favor. These were THE days
Dude is about to strike gold. Have fun
You’ve never heard of Layne Staley before this video?!?!?
Pretty sure he was being facetious
Layne 's voice here for a 23 year old boy is something else...in your face, deep, melodic, bluesy the all 9 yeards!!!!what a specimen..
33:40 Jeff Ament stage diving?? So cool :)
I caught your comment at 33:00. ❤ from the future for your timestamping. 😊
god damn layne staley was a FORCE
1:03 wash. 4:35 once. 8:20 evenflow. 14:03 breath. 18:59 Porch. Alice In Chains. 22:42 real thing. 26:50 it ain’t like that. 32:10 Man in the box. 37:33 bleed the freak. 41:55 dirt. 45:31 we die young. 48:11 sunshine. 53:40 confusion. 1:00:10 queen of the rodeo. 1:06:07 improv. 1:08:35 taxi driver
Thanks so so much
cool man - thanks
so does Josh shut those lights off before this concert, Eddie hasn't yelled at him.......😂😂😂😂😂😂
You sir are a Real American Hero.
Confusion sounds so alike to the studio version its crazyyy
When Layne says "this is off our greatest hits album, its entitled DIRT" he wasnt lying. Dirt is a greatest hits album since every single song on it is a great hit.
I second that
that type of talent is terribly rare.
facelift >>
@@lotty4006 yeah facelift is greatest huts volume 2 and sap greatest hits volume 3. Lol.
For real dude.
Layne was the best in 91.. every performance sounded like the record or even better, he also commanded the stage like a boss
Yep. The pre-heroin days.
ONCE !! UPON A TIME WE COULD UNDERSTAND VEDDER!!!
Hahahahahaha so fucking true. My fav song in this line up too 👍👍👍 \m/
when Cantrell head bangs !!!damn
doesn't miss a note too
I have heard so many bands in my lifetime but very few vocalist hits me in the heart like Layne's voice did...A Rock God
Navid Khan couldn't agree more. You can feel that mans pain in his vocals. Will give you goosebumps
Amen 100 %
Shepherd's Chapel Network !!!!!!! Chapter by Chapter / Verse by Verse !!!!!!! Amen
So grateful we still have Eddie
jerry is the godfather of grunge
Although the sound quality isn't the best, Layne's voice charges through like thunder! God I miss this man.
+Kat “Zepluv” Hamilton Me Too Honey!!
Rosie Cantrell Omg Rosie, I adore your jewelry!!! Such an honor to see you here.
Thanks.
It's always a bit startling when someone else has similar taste! Ha ha
Rosie Cantrell We're the very few...lol
I'm so jealous on this crowd here. Listening PJ songs for the first time in their life, wowww !!!
If only the audience knew who they were watching
I bet they know now! :)
+Jory Vander Galien I KNEW EXACTLY WHO I WAS
WATCHING
im sure they do lol
Nicole Owell sure you were buddy. I was there too with sasquatche.
AiC had already broken through at this point...
layne and eddie so beautiful Eddie you have the most beautiful soul and we hear it in your voice I know the nineties music is going to make a big big big come back because it's just too good and was just too much of an awesome time in music history so much love for the few that held on and that rest that we couldn't stay we miss you dearly Shannon layne Kurt scott
You were tight!
What a voice Layne Staley had! Rest In Peace, Layne.
I love Layne's look during this era.
Yup. It was better than his 84-86 glam look
Me too…healthy weight, no gloves or sunglasses…he looks like he’s 100% present. My heart breaks from the loss of Layne Staley.
Layne was a force to be reckoned with, Damn! He had a way to make his voice sound almost dirty, like bellows from the pits of his inner hell. Instant goosebumps when Layne sings, always! I miss him.
straight up
Love Layne but I gotta admit that Eddie is a better singer. No bias
@Ian Chicken Scratch Hahaha
@@puuhamato6294 All opinions of course but I think Layne was by far the best singer out of the "big four" grunge bands. He was in a different realm.
@@puuhamato6294 Vedder could never hit those notes, im sorry but thats a fact.
amazing to think that was basically the first time those classic Pearl Jam songs ever aired!! just wow love it
If I could go back in time to one show , it'd be this... we're so lucky this footage exists
This would be a top 3 for me in any decade. 2 of my all time favs.been to a ton of shows but never was lucky enough to catch them on tour.
Def a great show, but personally I’d go with 12-22-90, same line up only, Temple of the dog performed as well. Granted AIC set was shorter cu they filmed it for a promotiona disc but it’s the greatest vocal performance I’ve ever heard.
M I B
B t Freak
It ain’t like that
Sea of sorrow
Love hate love
Vedder Cornell Staley in their youthful prime, how awesome!
Cant go wrong going to both;))
ONCE! UPON A TIME! PEARL JAM OPENED FOR ALICE IN CHAINS
Fuck, Jerry's lead tone gets closer to Hendrix'x sound on Voodoo Chile than anyone I've ever heard. He has this way of playing pentantoic shit in a really articulated way, and a little slower than you think he's going to, just awesome feel to his playing.
Ive never heard a Chains song i didnt like.I cant say that about any other band. They had a special and amazing chemistry with this lineup.I believe people will love this band 1000 years from now if the world last that long. They made history and will never be forgotten.Im proud to have lived through the golden age of music.Music nowdays is nowhere near as good in my opinion.Feel free to disagree.
Ditto 🖖🏽
Truth 💯. That's the only reason I put Layne staley over Maynard Keenan and Scott weiland. Though their voices are amazing, they had songs I didn't care much for. Every Layne staley song is a classic to me. I loved aic but that song lifeless dead in mad season was the best song staley touched, that song was made for him the way he screams in that mic and that song I don't know anything with mckreadys guitar eargasm
Daniel Platt love lifeless dead as well!!!
Lol.. yes, I absolutely agree. I am forever stuck in the '90s music. I was born in 1964 so the same age as most of these guys. Saw them at small venues way back in the day actually about this time of this video. Originally from Houston and there are some really cool small seater venues on lower Westheimer right before you go actual downtown. There's an area e called The Curve which is exactly what it is it's where Westheimer curves. Lots of cool bars and shops. Great night life. Saw Pearl Jam at The Vatican which is now called The Abyss. Saw L7 and Henry Rollins same place. Got to see Hole at a place called #s (Numbers)... it was their second album came out that broke them mainstream. God she was so messed up and was walking around the back alleys. They said it took like several shots of whiskey to get her straight enough to perform. It was Halloween night probably in 1993 guessing. They didn't get on stage until after midnight. We were afraid they were going to cancel the show. It was definitely worth the wait though.
Completely agree, all AiC songs are masterpieces💖
One of laynes best vocal performances just flawless
Smaller places it seems!! To me the smaller the venue , maybe he wasnt so nervous maybe and always looked like he had way more fun and had a kick ass show! Like this one!
Layne ' s voice on Confusion is outstanding, powerful & beautiful
two of the greatest front men in rock music. can you imagine being there? there will never be another layne. unbridled force of nature. so pissed i missed alice at the first lollapalooza. got there a little too late.
Add in Chris Cornell and that’s the holy Trinity right there man. The 3 greatest rock vocalists of all time. Hard to believe all 3 came from the same scene, same era, same genre. Lightening in a bottle.
Will never see its like again.
Props to the dude that recorded this masterpiece. Also, Mookie Blaylock so 90s, damn I miss it.
My 2 favourite grunge bands!
2 of my top 10 all time favorite bands. This is wonderful. Pearl Jam is top 3 for me.
So cool how they switched instruments at the end of the show - I wish they would've done that at all of their concerts! Layne's a pretty good drummer!!
Alice in Chains rocked the hell outta this stage man !
Yes so much so that Pearl Jam kept diving into the crowd when AiC were playing
I’ve got a cool story about Eddie Vedder. First I worked for an insurance company back in the day in the special lines field and remember actually speaking to Eddie about his boat policy! He said enjoyed calling instead of his agent! Very down to Earth and later we were able to meet at a Seattle Pearl Jam show so he was able to put a face to the voice on the phone 📱. ILL NEVER FORGET IT! RIP CHRIS CORNELL. The Seattle scene in the early 1990’s is unsurpassed by anything going on today!
I like how the camera man zooms in on eddie and in the background you see Pearl on the kick......a little foreshadowing of things to come :D
When!!!??? where!???
@@WalkeeTalkeeMan dont remember....id have to watch it again
Michele M. 2:50 ish
Yes, the drumkit says: "It'll be as I say, or won't be at all"! 😁
31:38 Layne enjoyed Pearl Jam
This should be put in a time capsule. The people who were there will remember this for the rest of thier lives
Thanks to youtube, one big time capsule we can all re-live this excellent moment in time
a wee bit of talent on the stage that night;
I love Wash I can hear it on a loop all day
I saw Layne in a three piece suit at the start of their set on Lollapolooza in 93 and it was like 95 degrees that day! Needless to say he took the jacket tie vest and shirt off after playing Would the first song to start the show! Very charismatic singer and great stage presence! His voice very unique and an unbelievable range! RIP Layne!
two of the best in the same gig.!!...miss Layne Staley. RIP
Sunshine is straight up one of my favorite songs of all time
Damn these iconic bands it just killed me in this clip I would have given anything to see Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains at this show I'm so glad that this is taped so awesome I love my 90's bands it was such an amazing time and music history
That voice of Eddie’s...so clean and pure...and of course sexy!!
Dirt was so far ahead of its time here. Amazing song
What a fucking show! both bands. I'm not a big PJ fan but watching them right at their beginning is pretty cool. Staley was a monster though fucking awesome.
Absolutely amazing to see them before they exploded because of this band best years of my life were spent singing in a rock band thank you so much Pearl jam I couldn't have done it without you
Im so glad I got to see them Live twice in my life! with Layne Stayley.
wow, Dirt didn't come out until late 1992, and here they are doing the song in early 1991, I never knew they did that song that early.......you learn something new every day ...
Same with Pearl Jam, had some songs for 3 years or so
The entire Dirt album was written on the road!
Same here!
Who in their right MIND would give this a thumbs down??!! This is EPIC...u don't even have to be a fan to see how incredible this is! If only the audience knew what an impact these songs would soon have on rock/grunge music!!
Jesus. Layne.... Just amazing
Alice in chains were gods, for that beautiful sliver in time
Layne kills it on the drums at the end!!!!
Mookie Blaylock sounded like a soft muted instrumental version of Clapton's short recording of "Cocaine". AIC is so smoking hot! Layne is so much alive and takes Jerry's ultra cool riffs to an upper level trip. The power of Layne's vocals are beyond paranormal/ supernatural. The audience truly saw the beginning of the Grunge Kings. Genius before fame.
I love how PJ is making its way through a few songs and in unspectacular fashion and then boom, evenflow. In perfect form.
What a find on RUclips! My two favorite bands. Loved Porch and Breath…all of it. Thank you!
I was at this concert! Amazing!!! I wish the quality was better but it was a long time ago. So stoked to see it on RUclips!!!!!
Chris Krieger dude you look like Neil young
You are one lucky ass man
History in the making...
Wow…it’s really interesting to hear AIC play Dirt so long before they even recorded the record. This was over a year before the recording sessions for Dirt
amazing! Dave Krusen on the drums! special sound!! I love Abruzzeze but I never heard Krusen live before until now
Abruzzese was hands down their best drummer. Just fought with Eddie too much.
Jerry you Kick-Ass too thank you for what you did for the band and being the driving force behind the band and being such a great writer their songs are truly amazing and you're a kick-ass guitar player
+Steve Stertz...The drums were the first instrument Layne ever played. So yeah, he was good. Didn't know if you knew so just sharing. Been following Alice in Chains from the 1st time I heard "Man in the Box", etc. 1989. I've been influenced by my parents who loved Heart in the 1970's.....so many others so I like a lot of music but AIC I fell in love with very quickly. Been a Alice in Chains fan ever since 1989......
one of the best vocals performance from layne! along with live in dallas
+Artorias yeah that was really good
Fuckn dope, AIC playn dirt before it was out, sick
gear rack I know right !
Staley's voice. Out of fucking control. Wow.
2 bands that forever will be part of Rock history....all this songs make me nolstagic and I just got this sad feeling knowing I'll never go back to such amazing time....I miss the best times of my youth..I had a great time....people say youth is energy wasted on ignorance...but damn it was worth every minute of it....both huge bands ...funny how the opening band became one of the biggest in the world!!!🤘🖕✌👍btw..AIC sounds fucking great even on this old vision🙌👏🔘🔺♈✴☣⬆💉
Amazing how both these bands went on to worldwide success and were both part of such a big shift in rock and roll and popular/influential music, that has stood the test of time. What a pity about Layne Staley though...drugs are such terrible things.
Imagine what those songs would have sounded like without drugs though? Hmmm, makes you think…
i keep watching this over and over... it's like watching the birth of something so beautiful! awesome and heartbreaking all at the same time... love this and thanks for sharing!!!
I was 25 in Seattle in 1990. We didn't realize it would ever die. It was the revolution.....
Who ever recorded this needs an Oscar nomination seriously this is definitely internet gold. I think back I was 17 in Feb of 91 and would be introduced to the Seattle scene that summer after graduation.
So cool this is from before they even had their name
They were still calling themselves Mookie Blaylock but they knew it wasn't going to last much longer. Ed mentions expecting a call from Mookie's lawyer about the name. My question is, did they already have Pearl Jam picked as the name....check out Ed's t-shirt :)
Yeah, his t-shirt is a teaser.
Alice n chains best of all time
33:42, The guy who invented YOLO
That's Jeff Ament
it is too lmao
This is the beauty of RUclips. Great history! Still mookie here.
this video is pretty fucking incredible....wowsa
I am proud to belong to that generation, in that concert history was being written that will last for centuries to come
Thank you! I needed this!
This is amazing! Thanks for sharing
Can't help but love this! It looks like everyone in the band discovered conditioner except Layne. lol Love Eternal
Layne sounds amazing here
Philip Streva no doubt. You have to take into consideration it's a mediocre bootleg quality and still that voice is on the money
He always sounds amazing
My two favourite bands. Thanks for the upload!!
This is brilliant, thanks for posting!!
fortunate to have been working at Epic Records (their record label) during this week of so-cal shows (cathouse in hollywood...winters in san diego...topped by this one at the palladium in hollywood). as we all realized...we were witnessing the launch of a magnificent game-changing band...they never looked back from that week of shows that unveiled their band for the ages
AIC has an amazing energy. PJ is good but AIC blows my mind every time.
Awesome upload!! Thanks so much, never thought I would see this wow, Mookie Baylock intro..this footage is gold!
Thank you so much for uploading. Never saw this! Love AIC
I was 15 and a half when this show happened. I didn't see it but I have followed Pearl Jam since Alive was released and I read about it in various magazines. I still have my copy of Alive in the 12" poster bag release that was in a local record store bargain bin, a bargain bin!! I took it home and played it non stop and I found, like so many others, music that I could relate to. I eventually got the stick figure cover tattooed on my arm. The 90's were a great time for music.
It’s tragic that half the band isn’t here anymore. R.i.P Layne, and mike!
I really love their very first years at live concerts,.. so raw..and so much energy in the stage. Pearl Jam & AIC
This was a month before Layne cut off his dreads. The dreads look was my favorite Layne look.
