Even then sometimes they'll have enough old gunk and sludge to get by for a while. When it finally does go it's usually either really boring and anticlimactic or you've accidentally made a bomb and some regrettable choices.
Great video man!! May I suggest. Maybe as a little extras video. I'm very interested to see the inside of that transmission and also the damage that it has done. Maybe as a third part u can show us the damage that was done. Cant wait for the next 1
During the winter holiday, on my trip back to Europe, I've rented a Ford Fiesta, whose transmission I abused to no end. Part of the reason for the abuse was that the transmission was manual and I forgot how to drive a manual. Anyhow, by the time I handed back the car one month later, no obvious transmission problems manifested themselves, but seeing what could have gone wrong with the transmission (and by extension with my bank account) sends chills to my back.
Nice of that shop to let you video in there are not worried about the liability of your being in there. I've had some shops let me do that too; pretty cool when you can still do that these days! (I know that was a few years ago, but still pretty recent.)
You didn't see the previous video, obviously. The screen is the replacement of the infotainment system, it doesn't just show the speedometer.... But yeah, go ahead, just comment because you can!
Loving the content dude, once you're finished with the truck you could give it a new lease of life by restoring it then giving it away to someone who needs it in these crazy times :)
my brother had a 2000 nissan y61 petrol manual, he was me driving to school one day and a mid-sized SUV suddenly braked infront of us. the brakes didnt save us from the crash so he downshifted from 4th gear 2nd. barely missed hitting that SUV. still, he drove it 3 more years without having much issues with the clutch and gears, just a minor clutch adjustment and that was it.
Standards have SYNCROS. for all gears except REVERSE. Neutral is not a gear. The job of the syncros is to MATCH up the clutch speed with the back wheels FASTER so that you don't have to wait for the gears to match sync. To understand this better, you can put the powered wheels up on jack stands (depending if it's front or rear wheel drive) and with the car in neutral, start the engine, and without using the clutch, gently apply pressure as you try to push into first gear. Watch how the tires start to spin, and with more pressure it will lock into first gear. Even just sitting on flat ground, applying pressure into a gear without a clutch, you can actually feel the car trying to move. Syncros take up the slack of speed difference that would normally take you about 10 seconds to shift from gear to gear. Have someone teach you how to shift without a clutch. Of course you still need the clutch to take off from a dead stop. REVERSE has NO SYNCRO. you can always slam lock a manual into reverse without a clutch. When you forced this into first, going 60mph, the first thing that happens is the the clutch is trying to spin about 20,000 RPM. It's not made to spin that fast.
It's a little problematic when the initial ad is 20 seconds (non skippable), then you go into a very long sponsor plug which is interrupted by yet another ad before you even finished the plug...
I just wanted to see him drop the transmission, I wanted to see how it would even break. (Would it shear off gears? Snap the connecting rod? Wear down the clutch to the point it can’t create any traction?)
Love this channel! Started watching it when you first got the f-150 of course I miss it lol but look forward to the new truck and also everything else you do. Glad your keeping the ranger. Means more fun videos!
Those little Mazda produced 5 speeds are a little tougher than I’d have expected. Having not gotten to the end of the video I’m guessing the clutch disc blew apart, and the input/cluster gears got peeled clean.

I live in the pittsburgh area and always wonder if I’m ever driving around you while you’re doing one of your videos. If I ever see a ranger lock up driving down the street I’ll know 😂
The rust is your biggest problem, more so than the broken trans and clutch. My '02 Ranger looked about like yours underneath 5 years ago when I felt it was too unsafe to drive on the freeway as bad as the rust attacked everything underneath. That being said, I hate seeing any vehicle get straight junked without doing some kinda cool project on it...
Your not mentioning that you put it in 1st at 65mph twice and after the first time it kept driving, so technically it did survive it once but not twice.
just a bit of advice, I know this is an old video, but if your clutch went out, you would sill be able to shift into the gears. but you would grind the gears putting it into gear. and you put the trans into gears with the clutch in and released the clutch and the truck went no where. thats a shaft issue because if you released the clutch wiht the trans in gear with a broken clutch, you would sill move.
