I remember my Literature teacher telling me in High school that I would not achieve anything in life because I couldn't afford to buy a textbook. That was a punch in the gut for a grade nine student. Today I am an English and Literature teacher. I proudly source textbooks for my students who have financial challenges. Never accept people's negative perception of you. Thanks Mrs Obama for inspiring young ladies like myself.

Second of all, you don't speak for all of us. The Obamas were the most educated and classy people to ever grace the White House and serve in that capacity. I, for one, am so proud to have had such an amazing role model and such an amazing woman as the First Lady during my lifetime.

I've heard this many times!! I was told by my high school guidance counselor that I wasn't college material.
Years later, countless blacks in my generation were told by guidance counselors the same!

It pains me to hear so many stories about guidance counselors telling students that they aren't "good enough". Personally, my guidance counselor pushed me to go further, paved the way for me to receive certain opportunities, and was slightly disappointed when I decided not to strongly pursue qn Ivy-league school. I wish more counselors were like her. Our students would go much further

I have advance ordered this book months ago and I’m from the Philippines. So excited to have my hands on it.
I remember the "angry black women" headlines and caricatures drawn and displayed on major magazines covers and newspaper articles painting Mrs.Obama in a exaggerated way.
I remember the challenging and defending conversations I had during that first election about Barack and Michelle in New York and Los Angeles.
It was pretty ugly, how those "reputable" publications handle the news during that time.
However the two major effects were that no other election process stirred that level of conversation between strangers about politics and how we view each other.
Plus the attacks directed at Michelle publicly brought to light how people treat women who have something to say.
For the women who want to paint their own narrative the objective is to demean them physically and to paint them as being off center, a classic misogynist response, and very American response.
Well, as a fellow Princetonian, I can tell everyone that she is one of our school's most inspirational and accomplished alumni. And also so popular!
So why is she always angry and feeling sorry for herself? I guess she thinks playing on people's sympathies will get them to buy her book. LOL

It is absolutely amazing when you crush these absolutely brilliant minds, you let them talk and let them explain what they believe, you ask questions to keep them going. Than you destroy the entire foundation of the lie they believe. If you could only see the look on these peoples faces. I say something like this, if life was created from a galactic soup and we evolved into our present form, than why can't dogs bread with cats. You have evolution backwards. If we take a master copy of a VHS tape and make a copy of a copy of a copy what happens? They all say it degrades. I say that is mankind.
So I met with Louise Sams several times, she is on the board at Princeton and was top level at CNN. She is from Georgia and grew up at East Lake. She tried to tell me that CNN tries to cover the news in a non-bias manor. When your reality is that messed up, where can you go. So she said, I like coming up for Princeton football games. I had to put her in her place. So I said, They don't even have a real football team, didn't even know Princeton had a football stadium. Of course she got offended. That was a set up. So I said Princeton hates white people. She said, of course not. I said than that is why the school is all Chinese foreigners. She was speechless. Than I said a kid from my high school just got a scholarship for athletics. He came out of the same program as me. I was 100 times better athlete than this kid and I was nationally ranked. Princeton wouldn't give me the time of day. This kid is Indian that is why they gave him the scholarship. Louise said it is not all based on your athletic ability. I said you are correct it is based on creating a United Nations and picking different ethic classes to fill your quota of diversity.

Michelle, in UK you don’t need to be black to be failed by prejudiced staff. I happen to be white and had decided to join the WRAF in 1975 ( a dream since aged twelve). But this new headmaster needed numbers for university from this first year intake. So I was told I would fail, I would not amount to very much. Needless to say I won ‘Best Recruit Certificate of Merit’, a Trade Distinction; and many years later became his daughters employer! NEVER let anyone who does not take the time to know you, begin to tell you what you can and cannot do, and especially those few who cannot do and so they teach!
Anyone who finds reason not to like this woman's personality or say anything remotely negative about her, yet will somehow defend Trump until his hoes go home, are NOT in their right mind.

Just had this discussion with a group of friends how their guidance counselors were sh*t. I had teachers when i was receiving A's and B's tell me i shouldnt go to the next level of math because they didnt think i was ready. The way he spoke to me you would have thought I was failing. This happened to me several times. Mind you I had honors classes as well. I wasnt dumb, just lacked motivation. I 100 percent believe if i had a better support system i would have thrived more in school.
