With or without capitalism there will be hierarchy and exploitation.

I was very impressed with this young ladies views and her interpretations of a capitalist driven society.
I haven't studied in university I'm what some might call one of the common folk, who is unemployed etc.
From what might be called burn out from trying too hard to work in a system that is about numbers and less about the individual and that individual as a person. Working within policies that compromise my personal moral codes and that also comprise others, in similar ways, in my view.
Working in a system where people on the breadline are so over stretched in daily living they can't even begin to think of the environment. So pushed to the limits and opressed they hardly have the energy and motivation to take action for the environmental issues that most surely worry them.
This is the legacy of capitalism. Then on top those people on top of the tree; adding insult to injury tell them in round-about words; you don't care, when they most certainly do. But when you are forced to work all the hours then still have to use the food bank.
As a mixed race person brought up in 70's Britain i was told i should go back to my own country, to my mud hut. And thank goodness for those who do still live in mud huts around the world else; this conversation would have had to take place a long time before now.
People talk of 3rd world countries and some say in order to bring poverty down we need to bring industry to those countries; equalling capitalism there. With them following the wests lead, instead of saying, " You know what lets learn from their mistakes, rather than following their foot prints to the letter."
But, No! Capitalist would not have that, it means they might be left out the money loop.
And instead of valuing people who have less material wealth and belonging and those that use less resources. They are made to feel lousy as if not good enough and insulted by us westoners. Even though those capitlists make sure they take their countries riches, while those people is made worthless in comparison with this country and other weston cultures, even though they are possibly in a naturally material rich country.
How stupid and foolish we all are, me included because i brought into this vicious unfair system with its lies and deciet. And as a result suffer from what i taught others that has encouraged them to buy into this cr*ppy system as well.
I pity those of you who go to university to learn to be millionaires, biilionaires or be a CEO of some corporation, because of how you will be asked to compromise yourselves in the worst way.
The only advice i can offer you from my 51yrs in this world is, be true to who you really are and that is pure love and light and never forget that is who you are.

Another thing i would like to add.
Since this platform represents a place of excellence in learning. Can you please promote or discuss the question of why as a common person i have no access to common law books except online? In fact in our libraries i have no access to any law books at all except advice on law. Which i can get from the local CAB or Law Centre. Does this mean the laws don't apply to us lot? Surely if we do not know the law then how can the law apply? And if we are answerable to the law then shouldn't we have full access to all laws in this country and be able to borrow those books at our own leasure?
If you please can you perhaps being this up as a topic and question what effect being ignorant of these laws might intail for poor folk?
Perhaps abuse of some kind from those who would seek to keeps us ignorant of what our rights actually are???? Perhaps for monitary gain or similar?

I like the idea that in order to create a new world the old one must die. Capitalism cannot be merely reformed , it must be changed. This I agree with. But how would you replace it? The problem with the machine as well as the danger of over production is still there. Furthermore, the growth of human population and their need for food, healthcare as well as a place to live make it impossible to simply let go of capitalism entirely

The free market is the only ethical economic system.
-- this lady saw the sexy chickens and sexy fish speech and figured she could jam way more prog gibberish into her 10 minutes.
In chief conflating consumptionism with capitalism is a fatal flaw of the argument. Capitalism does not preclude a saving attitude toward wealth, nor is consumptionism predicated on the existence of a capital approach to the economy. A planned economy can (and now does) push consumption behavior for its own purposes.

Her argument is wrong. One person's consumption is other person's income. She should look at this problem more deeply, because this is fundamental to economics and she should not invent a now economic theory out of a hat or resort to Marxism that is discredited and wrong as econimics. There is no concrete causation between emissions and growth, e.g from 2014 to 2016 the world economy grew by about 3% annually but world CO2 emission remained flat.

For what what do you think gross domestic product is? If it is not linked the production of major companies, who use fossil fuels is intrinsic to there business. As you said you made the comment, one persons consumption (in capitalism) is another persons income?

@@alexanderthornton8622 There are no logical inconsistencies in my argument, if there were please point to it instead of producing what appear to be quack economics book. Remember, _someone's consumption is anther's income_. And consumption does not have to be resource intensive.

@@alexanderthornton8622 There is no other viable economic system other than regulated free market economy aka "capitalism". Major companies are important participants in our economies. They and us consumers need to change our sources of energy, but there is no need to view them as enemies, just tax them to keep their power in check.

Basically all she is saying is “Capitalism is evil ! Ahahahahaha!!!”.
She has no idea that capitalism abd consumption are the very things that have improved the prosperytt and raised the level of living ao much that instead of working hard for pure survival, people like her have the means and the free time to even be bothered by climate change.
On the other hand, most of the atrocities attributed to capitalism are in fact caused by Governments, and the big corporations who exploit their governments with lobbying and bribery at the expense of the people are practicing the exact opposite of Capitalism.
We are lucky to be living in the best times ever since the beginning of human history, and our children are even luckier because things will keep improving - all thanks to Capitalism.

    • @aliss4781

I'm sorry but i have to disagree! You really think that Capitalism will make a better future for your children? Where on Mars with Elon Musks crew? Good luck with that one. Especially since i've heard that there is zero gravity there and there really strong harmful rays from the sun meaning: they would have to be under ground there and in their little pod under the ground they would have to be on excersise machines all day to keep their muscles from wasting away from zero gravidity.
But then he's a smart guy who has all his bets covered. And how do I know this? Because about 4 or 5yrs (maybe longer) ago it was in the metero news paper (i'm pretty sure it was that one) it said that Elon Musk has paid a billion dollars for a clock to go under a mountain. Now just think about that for a second? A billion dollar clock under a mountain why would some put a billion dollar clock under a mountain?
Or perhaps while your children are all brainwashed into connecting physically with tech, perhaps like the Borg in star trek? And be saying, we must asimulate?
People in Western countries are suffering more with mental health than ever. Its i've heard common place in America to medicate children struggling. And why? Because the capitalist system is not nourushing for anyone on a deeper level than the material one. Children are not connecting with the natural world as they used to and this isn't helping. They are being pushed into the pigeon hole box of this is your job it sucks but it pays the bills. Its totally unfulling and you might have to compromise your morel code to do it but you'll make enough money to buy those prada shoes once a year.
Since i'm probably old from your point of view. Me being over 50.
But please allow me to enlighten you about a few facts that might have escaped your learning.
Let take factories for example: in the 80's it was all wow on the news their were robotic arms that could do the job of two men.
Those companies improved productivity and men and womens jobs were gone. The companies made profit all well and good for them.
Did they take that profit and say, look here you redundant folk with this extra money we'll pay for training so you can get another job? NO they did not. Did they say, Look here you community that have had many job losses, we are going to invest in community enterprise schemes. NO they did not.
So what makes you so sure you children will have a job? And if they do will they watch their life dwindle away from a little cubical as one of many in a grey suit, at a grey desk, in a grey building infront of some grey gadget. While telling themselves I can't wait until this credit card debt is paid, I might be able to get a new grey coat.
Just a perspective to think about, that you still have the power to change.
Sorry my generation has let you down in this but its up to you white lighter kids to try and fix things. Best wishes for you to do that and i mean that whole heartedly. Hugs
