As a super busy mom, wife, previous caregiver to other fam member for end of life care, with health stuff of my own, I really appreciate seeing this type of declutter. I think it is so hard to juggle so many things and others' care and you can have the best intentions with products, health items, etc. But at the end of the day, what often brings the most peace and total health is as simple a home space as possible that meets your needs comfortably. I definitely don't have this achieved yet, but working toward it! Excited for this family's new chapter and being allowed on the journey.
I’ve started the Swedish death cleaning! Gave my jewelry to my daughter, Don’t use it anymore, and quit wearing makeup because of chronic illness and sensitivities, stopped using hair dye! Hardly anything in the bathroom! Castor and coconut oil are my moisturizer! Slowly getting rid of anything that I don’t use ! It’s so freeing!
Good for you! I have done the same, seven years ago, and never looked back. My moisturizer is my humidifier. I leave it on, 24/7, October through the end of April.
Girl, you push the power button!😂 No one is going to buy a used lip product.😬 The rationalization some people use is shocking. It makes me wonder if I would say similar things in their shoes. (I don’t think so.) You are always so patient. I don’t know how you do it.
"You push the power button girl" omg Carla you kill me. I used to hoard instruction booklets - then realised you can google literally every appliance ever made. Throw em out people!
Whenever I help someone declutter, if they ask me if I want something I always say yes...then declutter it. It helps them feel better and helps them keep going.
Thanks so much Carla for coming to Taos! Just a note for everyone ready to comment and judge me on my home lol - - I know everything is dusty and a mess, as a Virgo, I’m actually a neat freak. But - I knew Carla was coming, and I had actually just been in bed for 3 weeks with pneumonia and then a sinus infection, plus it was allergy season - you can see I’m rubbing my eyes as I’m very allergic to dust, but I knew we needed to get through this. Also, knowing that we were moving, I didn’t want to clean everything until the space was empty and I knew that I would unpack and clean as we put things on the shelf in our new home, which is exactly what I did. I’m so grateful to Carla and Val for coming and helping and I would do it all again! Even though I’m a neat freak and love to be organized, I am always open to learning and growing. I know a lot of people don’t understand the garage sale stuff - it’s hard to explain, but we live in a very small artist community and as expected we knew about 90% of the people coming. Lots of parents have kids who do ballet and dance and they want non-toxic makeup, and again we all know each other. I didn’t end up getting rid of any of the make up bc my younger daughter wanted it all, so it all worked out fine. If you would like to see our renovation projects on our unfinished barndo (which is a real hot mess house in Taos!) then please subscribe to Barndo in Taos here on RUclips and thanks so much for going easy on me in the comments! Much love to all ❤❤❤
I think it's way too easy for people to judge others from a distance. They will say things in a comment section they wouldn't dream of saying to your face. I've never been to Taos but lived in AZ and dust is a part of life. Thank you for opening your home to all of us. I'm also moving and packing right now so the motivation is helping ❤
No need to justify anything. 😊 I appreciated your thought process and am also a saver of used containers to repurpose later. I have 3 plastic shoeboxes and that is my maximum space for meds, etc. so I go through it regularly to reduce when it piles up. All the best wishes in your new home!
Dust settles quickly, especially if you live in a dry place and if you have open shelving it looks ok for 5 minutes. Those new containers are perfect because you can see what you have and keep the contents free of dust. Best of luck in your new place.
Used lip gloss and cosmetics to sell - hard no. Clothes yep, but not things used on your body and opened. And keeping the empty bottles. Take a picture of shades etc and toss. Fascinating watching what people thoughts processes are
She had said her closet declutter she has a lot of artists in her area that reuse and repurpose things, makeup could easily be used for art. Not sure about selling it though, unless it's a brand with a collection craze behind it like MAC.
@ I get what you’re saying but this is not limited edition still in packaging unused Mac - this is face wash and toner opened and used and heavily used root powder and lip gloss. I guess everyone has a line as to what they would buy used however hygiene and cosmetics open and used is generally a hard no for most people.
You should check the steam cleaner. It looks like the one I had…which was recalled! Might not need that instruction manual after all. Good work ladies!
Great job! I hope her move went well! Good luck to her in the new place. I love doing small projects also like making an area 20 minutes better. It feels less overwhelming to give yourself a time limit. Often I get momentum and end up working for longer and it feels like a bonus. Have a wonderful week Carla! 😊🧡🐦

It's illegal to sell skin care, prescription and OTC drugs, vitamins, makeup, etc., in the USA, either. I wouldn't give them free to anyone, either, even if I knew them.
Don’t reuse those small bottles. They can not be cleaned easily. Leftover product can go bad and you wouldn’t want that to mix with the new. Unless you are a cosmetics chemist you could be creating new and toxic substances. It is not advisable to share cosmetics - it’s highly unhygienic - so just throw away the eyelashes. I doubt that anyone would buy them at your garage sale. Plus how much could they sell for?
The good thing about putting it out in the yard sale is.. that you have already made the decision to let go of it, so at the end of the sale it is much easier to .. let it go! In my experience ..
Honestly - I don't think used make-up should be put in a yard sale; it should be tossed for if you have a close friend or family member that's ok with using "your" used items, fine. Personally, I would not buy a used makeup or product. I like the use of the corner cabinet, in that position to block the view of the toilet, good idea!
My bathroom had a similar item count. I'm so glad I realized that I'm just not a person who actually uses them. For me they were literally fantasy-self items. It was so freeing to remove everything I don't use on a half-way regular basis or every time on certain occasions. Earlier I could only let go what had expired. It took a while to realize that hardly any of them I had even opened, or even used more than once or twice. It also means I now get a lot less testers that would end up the same fate. I also did a for-later box first and then realized I never missed anything I put in there. Took years to decide to let that type of box go for good, at least for this item category.
OOOoo, those jeans at the start of the video look so good on you, Carla! Oh no!! TAKE ALL MY MONEY! I also love the sweater, the tree AND the cookware. All are fabulous!
LOL the mini Scopes for guests... how many times do you realistically have guests? And how often do they use your little mini mouthwashes?😂 It's never going to happen
Really? We have company ALL the time lol. Maybe bc we live in the mountains and all our family is in Cali, England, Florida, Texas and Hawaii. We even have friends who come skiing in the winter and live 3 hours away but don’t want to drive home in a snow storm. We literally have company all the time lol. 😂
If it's dusty it should just go or be sold. Thats proof it isn't getting used. I quit taking free samples of goods home because I would never use them. BTW - Love the Kylie Dailey music you've been using lately 🎶
Feels like there’s more organizing and sorting that could be helpful here. I have a storage bin just for Travel where I put mini brushes or makeups, trial sizes, small perfumes and travel bottles that are reusable. Then I have a plastic bin just for purse size cosmetics, including putting eye pencils in there when they get too small, or small hand creams. For the lady in the video, it feels like she’d also benefit from a “special occasion” makeup bin to put all the things she uses when she gets dressed to the nines but doesn’t wear everyday, to get all that stuff out of her sight for everyday. If you mentally have to sort through the things you see…. “Oh I don’t need THIS now…” or “I only use that LATER”…. You aren’t optimizing your space or have blocks to your energy. Or AKA clutter 😂.
We are keeping things in baskets that are alike on a wooden five shelf unit. It isn't perfect, but keeps it contained and you can see what not to buy and what to use up first.
Hi Carla. Thank you to your friend for inviting us. I love her wooden shelf, the real one. Everything looks better on it. Is there a petition for Walmart to return to Europe ? Maybe as an online shop ? I miss the clothes. Have a nice weekend.
I wouldn't buy used cosmetics or opened products, if friends don't want them as freebies then bin them. And what's with all the empty bottles everywhere? All these things should have been thrown away once used up.
So strange I swear I was subscribed to this channel, got recommended this video and realised I had been unsubscribed somehow... Can't believe I've been missing out your relaxing decluttering 😢❤ xx
You should NEVER use open/used makeup from other people. I’m such a minimalist that everyone’s house is crazy. The last time I bought a piece of clothing was 2013. I only by necessity. Nothing more. My house is very sparse.
My bathroom decluttering when into easy mode: I got the biggest size of wanted dispenser for each kind of product. All neutral clear or white. All shampoos I get gifted etc go into my shampoo. All of them. Period. And so on. I dilligently used up all non transfereables by having all small handcreams etc by having one each in my most used handbags, my backpacks and the gymbag. Each of those bags also has its own little makeup baggy, tissue paper thingy, wet wipes, mints and reading glasses. All the little product "gifts" go into 1 lidded box in the store pantry. No clutter and besides wallet, keys phone: I am ALWAYS ready to go. And only 7 big dispensers in the bathroom. Same for cleaning supplies down to 4. 1 container for specialized stuff. 3 huge containers in the laundry room: 1 liquid detergent (cheapest for "136 loads.." normally lasts for a year for mostly xlarge loads), 1 biggest, cheapest container of borax, 1 biggest cheapest container of baking soda. 1 gal housebrand White vinegar, 1 gal bleach, 1 bar of heavy duty cleaning soap. 1 nail and toothbrush for scrubbing. I plain bucket for soaking only. Thats it.
I also keep some instructions because not everything is online, unless you remember the specific model name/number which no one does 😅 Moving can be hard and stressful, best of luck in the new place, subscribed 😊
I am so glad I do not wear makeup! No lotions, no potions, no cosmetics, no cold creams, no perfumes, and for sure, no sunblocks. (I stay out of the sun). I look 15 years younger than most of my friends who are my age, who spend thousands of dollars each year on cosmetic junk. I use Ivory soap, Head & Shoulders, and a natural toothpaste. That's it. The humidifier works 24/7, from October to April. It moisturizes my skin. I feel clean, I smell fresh, my pores can breath, and my skin thanks me for not abusing it. I am also a super minimalist. No clutter, no hoard. Less junk, less dust keeps my skin clean and fresh.
I would love to hear more on what products are safe to use on face & body. My eyes are super sensitive and I can’t wear most makeups. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi there! Depending on your budget, there are excellent non-toxic makeups to choose from. I love Bare Minerals and Ogee. Keep an eye out for “talc free”. Also stay away from parabens and sodium laurel sulfate to begin with. You can always purchase the travel sizes to see if you resonate with the products before buy the bigger items which can be so expensive. Good luck! Feel free to message me if you need more support ❤
There are no 100% non-toxic products. There are hypoallergenic and/or natural, semi-allergenic products, but even those have chemicals that might irritate your skin. They also get contaminated with bacteria once opened. Once you find a product that you are not allergic to, use a clean Q-tip, rather than your fingers, to apply it to your skin, and always throw out the container as soon as it is empty. Keep all cosmetics out of the bathroom and kitchen, and only store them in a cool, dry, and dark place, and never share them with anyone once they are open, or expired.
FYI, Sudafed contains amphetamines. Drug dealers make methamphetamine out of them and sell them in the black market. Therefore the limit is 30 pills a month per buyer. Since Sudafed is no longer sold over the counter, you have to buy it from the pharmacist. You must have a valid Driver's License, which s/he scans and wires to the police. You also must give the pharmacist your phone number. If you buy more than 30 Sudafed pills a month, the police will be at your door, making sure that you are not running a meth lab.
You’re totally right - I usually clean but we had been waiting to close on this house for 5 months and then, right before Carla got there, I had pneumonia for 3 weeks. But thanks for your feedback - I’m actually very allergic to dust and you can see that I was rubbing my eyes a lot bc I was suffering big time, still also recovering still from the pneumonia turning into a sinus infection! Gah! But I wanted to work with Carla so I sucked it up and got to it!
@@BarndoinTaos I would get some small clear bins & group skincare in one, bath products in another , hair care in another etc. Stops shelves getting untidy.
I am also allergic to dust and dust mites I have allergic rhinitus, that's why I noticed the dust as it would be agony for me for days of I had dust that bad, I have to wear a mask and glasses when I dust.. And my chest isn't right since my second dose of Covid, so I get where you are coming from, good luck with the move, 💐❤ p.s put your things in doored cabinets not open ones. 💐
Used or unwanted makeup and body products - I wouldn’t recommend selling or donating. Congratulations on getting rid of clutter - it’s a mind boggling process. 💙🙏🏻🪷🕊

You are right. Opened containers of cosmetics are unsanitary and dangerous, due to bacteria, mold, etc.

It’s pretty strict here in Australia. We definitely can’t sell used or opened make up but given that you’ll know 90% of the people attending the garage sale, great idea to put it there. I’m sure they will appreciate it❤️❤️
It's illegal to sell skin care, prescription and OTC drugs, vitamins, makeup, etc., in the USA, either. I wouldn't give them free to anyone, either, even if I knew them.
@ofrasharon1241 fair enough. I definitely am ok to give things to my family and people I know. Each to their own though👍
Yay I love a new Carla video!! 🥰
I agree, it's not hygienic to sell your old makeup and eyelashes. I hope nobody buys them.
You guys made me chuckle with the steam cleaner instructions😂
She don’t need to keep empty bottles, they hold bacteria too! Selling used makeup big NO! Unsanitary af!
Great start. I’d make another pass through the keep box. Check dates on all the products. Keep up the good work 😊
The good thing about putting it out in the yard sale is.. that you have already made the decision to let go of it, so at the end of the sale it is much easier to .. let it go! In my experience ..

You're going to sell your lipgloss and your magnetic eyelashes in the garage sale?!? Not hygienic at all 🤢

She hasn't read that they are taking Sudafed off the market because it's garbage.
All used makeup and hygiene items need to be thrown away. Not given away or sold! She should know bacteria develops on and in opened products!
❤❤❤
She needs to put all of her travel stuff into her travel toiletry bag...
I really enjoyed both videos . This question is for Annette, I am curious to know if you Dine’ Navajo ? 😊
Hi! I’m not sure what Dine is? But I’m Filipino, Irish, French, English and Scottish!
Selling used makeup at the garage sale? Do people buy used makeup?😨
No, they don't 😂
Eww, selling used lip gloss?! That is very unsanitary.
Then don't buy it
These ducklips😮
🌸
This one is giving me anxiety.
👏👏👏
❤
So my question to Annette is what are her views on cooking with aluminum?
❤❤❤😊
Oh if people are looking for a natural/clean makeup brand there is a brand called Crunchie.
🙏🏽
Am I the only one who gets nosey and pays attention to the products? 😂
Links aren’t working for me. Is it just me?
Hmm just tried and it worked for me. Try the ones in the comments maybe?. If not LMK and I can send you. Thanks Miriam!
This video was a little boring compared some others you have done...

She says she is be thoughtful about what she and her family use, yet everything is thick with dust. 😐
At 3.25mins in she does say there are a lot of gifts she doesnt even use, that she doesnt want to keep.
Thanks for being brave and letting us watch your clean out!! Hope you are enjoying your new home.
Girl, she is killing me. We don't need a story about every little thing. 😂😂😂🫤I know it's hard when you are a hoarder.
Used or unwanted makeup and body products - I wouldn’t recommend selling or donating.
Congratulations on getting rid of clutter - it’s a mind boggling process.
