1. Don’t overuse commas (bonus: pause after commas to see if it would sound natural to have one there)
2. Prompt questions don’t test grammar
3. Pay close attention to what the question is asking for
4. Keep it short and simple- avoid redundancy (long answers are usually redundant)
5. Semicolons act as periods (kinda)
6. “What would the essay lose” asks what is the underlined portion saying
7. Choose the relevant option
8. Colons must follow independent clauses (complete sentences)
9. Clarity and conciseness are key (no wordiness)
10. Read the whole sentence so you don’t jump to conclusions
11. Don’t get hung up on one questions
Thanks!

Very happy to hear that!

Just saw this comment. Awesome news, congrats!

@Peter Pleh You’re literally watching it💀
@Peter Pleh my test is tomorrow wish me luck
@Peter Pleh 👍 going to bed right now 😴
Bro how y’all do so good on reading like please drop the tips
@@kcrish1106I got a 35 on reading, and really what you want to be focusing on is skimming passages, ideally catching onto 60-70% of the first read through. As you go into the questions, many of them SHOULD be able to be answered without going back. You want to make sure that the 60-70% memorized are main ideas rather than useless information. Many “useless” information questions can be inferred without going back (such as “what does this word mean in line…”). For history passages, your first read through should be around 40-50% of content absorbed. Really make sure you try to read in between the lines, searching for any motivations of writing, context of written piece, and once again, main ideas. The blunt of your time split for reading should be used on this specific passage. Good Luck!
"Don't over use commas" is a great tip overall, but the "pause test" is a subjective way to rule out what's grammatically correct. Following real punctuation rules would be a better way to improve your score.
juicy Agreed. But these are quick tips by design. The pause test is reasonably reliable, albeit imperfect.
I take the ACT on Saturday and I’m glad that I watched this video
pray for me
I need prayer now. I struggle with English so much.

“What? No way…” 😂 I also believe in manifestation, and I will MANIFEST A 36!!! I’m 24, and it’s absolutely ridiculous that I’m not in College. I have my reasons why, though. This video was fun, very informative. Thank you! I was my English teacher’s favorite in High School. 😂 She was very fond of my memoir!
Thanks to this video I scored 3 points higher (this was the only thing I did to study, a day prior to my ACT)
I think my ACT is in March and I’m watching this in September. Always good to start early lok
Your videos have helped me so much, I'm trying to get a 36 on English and your content has been crucial to that.
Taking practice acts like crazy but not improving much. I was always getting 25 and this boosted me up a few points on the English :)

Thanks man!! I’m working toward a 36 on the ACT! I’m a freshman and prepping for it early so I can take it next summer!
Well I highly recommend signing up for individualized tutoring with us if your goal is a perfect score! However, if you are more inclined to work on your own for now, you should check out some of our courses that will help you tremendously here: beyondthetest.teachable.com/courses/category/act

After getting a composite score of 15 on the mock ACT I realize that I need to really really try to raise my scores up ALOT. I'm a sophomore right now and I got to really really work on this..
Michael's Corner good luck !
15 as a sophomore is actually pretty decent.
I’m going to take my test tomorrow so wish me luck because I’ve been procrastinating LOL
your video is very helpful. I wonder if you can make more videos on ACT Reading, Science and Writing as well. Thank you so much for making this video. I truly appreciate that.

I've posted an ACT Science one a bit more than a week ago - find it in our channel.
I’m a freshman and took my practice ACT this year with a 31/35 but my English grade was ugh. Thanks for all the tips! I’m vying to get a perfect 36 in junior year, I know it’s super hard to
Little late, but how did it go?
@@Dumpling102 I actually ended up getting a 34 on my exam overall. (Math brought my score down, every other portion was a 35/36). And I received a full tuition scholarship. I am a freshman in college right now! Thanks for asking, It's crazy to come back to this comment it feels like so long ago since I wrote this.
@@wangzisworks wow, that’s amazing! I just took it, waiting on my score now 😅 if you don’t mind mine me asking, what college did you end up going to?

ACT tomorrow my dudes
i literally have a test tomorrow and this is on my recommendation. nice timing 👍
My score went from 32 to 27 … I am about to breakdown
At least there is superscoring :)
My test is tomorrow 😑
My test is in two months! Did a full mock test yesterday and my computed composite score was 26 😭 aiming for at least a composite score of 29.
Your videos are so helpful, thank you so much.

im taking my test tomorrow, im binging so many of these videos
This strategy is wonderful and it helped me answer all my practice questions with good time
The ultimate tip is LESS IS BETTER. Around 40-50 percent of questions are about this, and this tip makes it way faster. If the choices say the same thing, the one with less should be chosen.
act is tmr! this helped a lot dude!
My ACT is on Tuesday wooo 🥺
So my act tomorrow

Thank you, it was easier for me to do it without being stressed, thank you very much, new subscriber...keep up the good work

Great Video! I would like to watch a video on SAT Reading strategies. It would be great if you could upload it in a couple of days.
I saw your email and sent you a response.
Sent you a follow up :)
I STILL NEED MORE EXPLANATION ON THE SEMI COLONS
Nmesoma Igweagu semi colons split two independent clauses (possible sentences) in half like a conjunction. Sometimes they have introductory words or phrases.
For example
I have a tree; it is very tall
I have a tree, and it is very tall.
I don’t like sushi; however (introductory word), I like cooked salmon.
I don’t like sushi, but I like cooked salmon.
I'll be taking this test next week, so I hope this helps.
My test is the day after tomorrow. I'm great at English but I was stumped when I saw that most of the answer choices fit well in the stories. It was difficult to decide which one to choose.
Great video bro helped clear up a lot of stuff in a short amount of time. Thanks!

This helped so much! Thank you!
If there’s a complete sentence, or independent* clause, a colon may follow. However, a dependent clause may not preceed the colon.

About to walk in
