    I have a question about the 9 minute drill: when you mention going through a full passage in 9 minutes, should we work through it chronologically and complete as many questions as possible or skim through the passage and answer the questions we know for sure?

    • @preppros
      @preppros  Год назад +1

      I know this isn't the answer that you want, but it depends. It's best to try different methods and find what works best for you. The ACT Reading questions are not chronological, so you definitely don't need to do them in order. Watching my video on How To Get A 36 on ACT Reading should help as well (ruclips.net/video/lsQJL7_BKeg/видео.html)

    how good does a 30 look to schools cuz that's what I've gotten on my past few tests and I don't feel like I've improved and I'm worried about doing worse tmrw, cuz I already knew all of the stuff in your video, during the actual test my brain just decides to delete words or create new ones messing up the questions, but this doesn't happen in practice so i don't know what to do

    • @preppros
      @preppros  Год назад

      It depends on the schools you are applying to. I'd recommend looking at the information for the schools you are applying to to see how a 30 compares to the scores for most admitted students.
      If you are have been preparing and scoring a 30, I'm not surprised you already know all of this. It'll be best to review any practice tests you have taken today to feel as sharp as possible for tomorrow and know the types of questions you usually make mistakes on. Also be sure you have all the math formulas memorized. Do your best to read questions carefully since you know that you sometime make dumb mistakes. Any questions you aren't confident on, circle the number in your test booklet and come back at the end if you have extra time after finishing.

    • @slash3082
      @slash3082 11 месяцев назад +1

      30 is very good overall. Don’t know what kind of schools you’re interested in but a 30 will get you good financial aid at most places

    How many times do you recommend taking the ACT? I’ve taken it three times and still don’t have the score I want.

    • @preppros
      @preppros  8 месяцев назад +1

      Most of our students take the ACT 2-3 times, but it all depends on your goals and how much prep you have done. The ACT has score choice, so you only send the test dates that you want to schools when applying. What kind of prep did you do for the ACT so far? And how far are you from your goal score?

    Science 6 minutes per passage? There were 6 passages on April 2023 and September 2023 tests. 6 * 6 = 36 minutes, but ACT is only 35 minutes for the Science section. 36 minutes is a minute over.
    9 minutes per passage for Reading? There are 4 passages. 4 * 9 = 36 minutes. Reading is 35 minutes. 36 minutes is a minute over. If you show up for track practice and think "I'll run a 7 minute mile" because you've run 7 minute 15 second miles, you're in for a rude surprise. You'll have a false sense of pace.
    Rule of thumb is fine, but I tell students the per section time based on number of questions in the Science section and 8 minutes 45 seconds per passage on Reading. Going over with your rule of thumb timing is a bad thing. I also give them the times for 14, 15, 16 question English passages - sometimes they aren't all 15 questions. Science is easy to count # of questions: 5 minutes for 4 questions, 6 minutes for 5 questions, and 7 minutes for 6 questions.

    • @preppros
      @preppros  4 месяца назад

      Overall, I provide these timings for students because they are easy for students to remember and to use as a general pacing. Giving students something easy to remember and apply is more beneficial for most students, especially those cramming for the ACT. I could have clarified in the video that the timings were approximations for any students who did not do the math that you just did.
      Being exact, the Reading pacing is 8 minutes and 45 second per passage and Science is 5 minutes and 50 seconds, but those timings is harder for students to memorize and apply on test day.
