Learn how to play Spanish Castle Magic, as performed by Jimi Hendrix from his Axis: Bold as Love album. Another one where Jimi is in Eb, and this is a rocker from beginning to end.
Did you know that Spanish Castle was a real place? I'll show you exactly where it was and what it was, and how this entered into Jimi's consciousness.
The lesson covers all of Jimi's parts, rhythm and lead, talk a little on his tone, pickups, use of fuzz, and I'll talk about his pick attach approach on this song which is a big part of the sound on this one.

Jimi's lyrics were just as GENIUS as his guitar playing . Often overlooked . Great Lessons .
Thank you for pointing this out I have always said this to anyone who would listen
@@JIMIIXTLAN I'm 64 and discovered Jimi's music back in 1972 ... CHUM FM radio Toronto
@@trevorgwelch7412 Ottawa had to wait another 5 years before they had a Rock FM station
Dead 60 years and still the songs mesmerize.
Yes, 54 years gone and still unmatched.
Amazing lesson! And the tone that you got sounds just like Hendrix! Better than any video, I've seen on RUclips! Keep them coming, please!
Thanks mate! Great work.
That plexi sounds awesome. It just sits right where it needs to be.
👍🇦🇺
A little above my pay grade. Great show.❤
Wow - I explored a lot of variations and explanations - yours is the most logic to me...
F***kin' nailed it man! nice use of the middle pick-up!
This came out just when I’m discovering this song, it’s great to be able to play along!!!
Holy cow, you have a lefty guitar upside down! That's dedication. I've been wanting to learn this song, I'll take this as a sign to learn it. Thanks!
Fantastic dialog , lesson and sounds. I'm Pac N.W. now. By way of New York and Michigan. Beale St. in Memphis, and Printers Alley in Nasheville in Tenn. are awesome places too,
as you already know. Billy Cox said Hendrix use to walk around there with a guitar in his hands. Talk about a gunslinging guitarist.. You are right in the middle of it now. Peace.
Dude... this literally would have been my next request! Thank You!
What a fantastic video have a wonderful weekend doug ❤😊 also my favorite year is 2010 2011 2014 also 2016 to be honest ❤😊
YES! Been waiting on a decent tutorial of this!
Excellent work
Well WORTH the Wait!!! Thanx Doug!!!!!
Never enough Jimi!! 👍
Awesome. Thank you!
Thanks for this one !!! 🎩🎩🎩
Wow.hendrix lives.
Rippin’ it!
That's pretty much the same way I figured it out...Cheers !
Very cool. I do have to say the best cover of this I’ve ever heard was by The Spin Doctors.
You play so awesome 😊 don't you have some tracks of your own or where you play with a band or something? If so where can it be heard?
Thanks for a great channel!
thank you. You know, I don't really, this is the only musical outlet for me at the moment, kinda all I have time for. But I will at some point.
Love your work- just curious - where did the “12 foot chain” moniker come from?
It's a metaphor for breaking self imposed limitations. I talk about it more at the end of the very first video I did. Search 12footchain CCR guitar video and it's the one from 3 years ago
Looking at the notes I’m not quite getting what pedals/settings you’re using for the opening. Seems like more than boost and reverb.
Well the amp normal volume channel is on 9, using freyette attenuator for volume control. So there's a good amount of overdrive from the amp
What is the chord called when you use the thumb 4-4-3-4-X-X?
C#7 with a G# on bottom. Best I can do on that. I'm no music theory expert. Someone may correct me
@@12footchain C#7/G# is a Slash chord which G# is the 5th chord tone of the C# chord. Hendrix started to use Slash Chords and also started using "alternative bass notes" for the bass lines for the bass player the alternative bass notes. Really listen to the bass players bass lines because that aren't the root note of the chord a lot of times to make lessons about them.
Jimi was pre Page
Sounds a little Jimmy Page-ish. Great tune!
I'm going to have to get Another LEFTY STRAT, as I want to Play in Eb, anyway.... , ( like we need an excuse to buy another Guitar )😊
What are the chances you could ever do a video lesson on Led Zeppelin The Rover. The resource videos out there aren't the quality you put into it it apart from a few covering just the solo.
Chances are 100%
@@12footchain I honestly didn't even expect a response! You have my word I'll be the first in your tip jar when that comes out. This kind of made my day. My wife told me calm down its just a RUclips video when I just told her about it. Greatly appreciated sir. You don't even know
This song reminds me of why I never got into Jimi Hendrix. I'd rather listen to Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, James Burton, Roy Clark and a whole host of others that were alive when Jimi was alive and would absolutely smoke him on guitar. You may not like that, you may not agree with that. I understand that, but I'll bet you that upside down guitar that they could play everything Jimi played but he could not play everything they played. Don't get me wrong, Jimi was a beautiful soul, and he could play. But he never impressed me like the foregoing did. For instance, Chet Atkins could play "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and "Dixie" on the guitar at the same time. And if you've never heard Jerry Reed's "Jerry's Breakdown", then you certainly wouldn't understand.
I agree they were tremendous players, they could smoke anyone on guitar. But I like them all for what they all separately did. For me it doesn't mean I can't love and appreciate Jimi's music if I love and am in awe of Chet and Jerry.
@thecentralscrutinizerr "They could play everything Jimi played but he could not play everything they played." What a clueless comment. It's NOT about technique. All older guitarists like 12 foot chain (and myself) know Reed, Atkins, Burton and Clark and the songs you mentioned. YOU "certainly" DON'T understand🤣
New sub ! You're amazing bro!
Thank you, welcome
