MM6 is the culmination of things learned by the developers over the span of the last 5 games for what worked and didn't work. They brought back familiar mechanics, updated some, and added new abilities. As a result, a lot of it was "just another Mega Man game", but it was done right IMO. I think your rating was spot on. It was ground breaking with the Rush armors but for the most part most people would like this game but there's no need for them to go out of their way to play it unless they're into the original Mega Man games.
Yeah, it does feel like everything from the classic series came together in something cool, but unfortunately people who aren't into the franchise see it as "just another Mega Man game".
6 is underrated. It came out when the super nes was the new thing so it was overlooked. And i think mega man x was out also. I enjoyed it more than 5. Better music also.
Great review. What I dont like about this game is that the sound effect for the charged shot is the same as a normal pellet shot. In M4 the small charged shot had the pellet sound effect but the larger charged one was a blast 💥 sound. In MM5 they both had a different sound effect, but in MM6 they sound like your normal bullets. Thats not cool. If I charge my shot I want a BLAST 💥 sound effect. It feels better.
I didn't notice that, but you're right, and I like the louder shot too. I'm playing Mega Man 7 now, and they really differentiate the noises in that one.
@@MeguhFan MM7 is such a great game. Its the best one in the classic series for me. It had so many easter eggs, like the ghost and goblins soundtrack in the shade man stage. I love all the hidden stuff. And this is the only game where megaman looks like how he is suppost to be. The artstyle in mm8 is off for me.
I believe this game has a lot of cultural inspiration and emphasis on melodies in the music. The score is far better than you give it credit for, but at least you like Tomahawk Man's theme. His and Blizzard Man's are my personal favorites, but each theme is memorable to me. Nonetheless, I appreciate your contribution to this often overlooked game.
You not the only one who has suggested I take a second look at this game's soundtrack. It just didn't stand out to my while playing it, but I think I'll give some of the songs a second listen. Thanks for the comment!
Pausing around 3:30 to quickly say that you get the Power Adapter from beating Flame Man and the Jet Adapter from beating Plant Man. I'd be surprised if no one else had already pointed it out in the comments, but I'm mentioning it just in case.
Robot Master reviews 1. Blizzard Man: Blizzard Man is often forgotten when we talk about Mega Man. I actually am not fond of his somewhat colourless sprite. His Blizzard Attack comes out of nowhere and sometimes it forms right at you. Newbie trap! I am a fan of his Rolling attack. My problem? He sometimes corner you but that is something all MM6 robot masters are haunted by. Flame Blast actually works for a such a large RM. 5.5/10 2. Centaur Man: I am not a fan of Centaur Man's sprite. His.. er.. books look so prominent. And he has a buster. I would probably replace his buster by an Arrow like in the Power Fighter games. He fire shots that goes just above you and that is nice. But it does spread into several shots which are of the same size. I would have make his initial shot larger or spread shot smaller. His teleportation is clumsy. He sometimes appears way too late or way too early. Did I mention he also flashes? This flash is epilepsy inducing and it freezes you. Most of the time he just shoots which can easily be Dodged but sometimes he does ram you which is cheap. And his ramming? He is too tall to jump over. Knight Crush pretty much carries his score. 5/10 3. Flame Man: Flame Man has two attacks and both of them are great. His main attack is Flame Blast which although has no telegraphs can be dodged if you either jump at the right time or remain two poles away from him. His Fire Shot lasts too long. He should shoot online once or twice. Wind Storm is a good weakness. 7/10 4. Knight Man: Knight Man is based on a Knight. That alone should give him 10 out of 10. But let's look at it deeply. Knight Man has only one attack, lower his shield and shoot a homing mace ball. Even though it's simple, It works out surprisingly pretty well. I jush wished he has just one more attack. And Yamato Spear as a weakness couldn't've been better. 8/10 5. Plant Man: Plant Man is a disappointment. He just puts up a shield, jumps and throws away his shield. That's it. He doesn't do anything else and it is very easy to lock him into a pattern. He has a buster but he never uses it. I mean could have given it a Plant Buster shot. And the weakness.. it's Blizzard Attack the most A-backwards weapon in the game. Plant Man? More like Bland Man. 2/10 6. Tomahawk Man: I have a theory how Tomahawk Man was made. The devs made a majority of RMs but then looked at each other and said "Hey! This game's bosses are turning out to be easy, let's make a RM which is r-words with newbies" and created Tomahawk Man. Anyway, Tomahawk Man is cool. He either throws his Tomahawks or feathers. Both bosses can surprise players. What I like about him is how he makes your slides more often than usual. What I don't like is his random jumps which can corner you and the weakness. How on earth a Cutter Type RM weak to a Nature type attack? 6.5/10 7. Wind Man: Wind Man does what I expect all other Robot Masters should do, which is have atleast 3 attacks. Unfortunately all of them suck. His wind attacks are too fast and next to impossible to dodge if you are not sliding. His wind propeller attack comes out way too slowly and his Slam attack also comes slow as hell. I actually would have preferred if there were pits on either side of the room. And what does his attacks have anything to do with wind? It is just gust of air. At least it's an improvement over Airman. Also his weakness. I despise screen nukes as weaknesses. 3/10 8. Yamato Man: Yamato Man has one good thing. He has two attacks and he will never use them attacks more than twice. I have to quote someone "To make someone seems more random, make it less random" . He either throws Spear or he jumps. Both attacks have a nice rhythm. Although the stationary arrow does hit even though it shouldn't and his spinning should deflect shots. Silver Tomahawk is a nice weakness. 6/10
Another great video! There are a few things that stood out to me regarding the Mega Man Series that you mentioned. The whole shtick of Wiley being the boss, no matter hidden or in plain sight, always just came off to me as a trope or stereotype. It was like a joke by this point that somehow Wiley was up to his nonsense again. It's not a Mega Man game without Wiley's eyebrows. I would also consider this is the game where the original series did kind of die off. After this game it was the X series and spin offs like Battle Network. But this game should also hold the distinction of being the basis for us Mega Man fans who kept asking Capcom for more retro 8-bit action and we finally got 9 and 10, even though those games played like older games instead of carrying the cool mechanics of 6. I would have LOVED to see more Rush Armor gimmicks in the later titles.
Yeah, it's like they're trying to make Wily's return into a joke, but it's not very funny. I played 9 a long time ago, and I haven't played 10, but I feel like 9 played more like mega man 2.
I mean, I'm fairly certain that there was probably going to be a lot more to 6, except then X came out and it was a huge success. Seeing that Mega man X would definitely put whatever is going to be for the NES in the shade for a long time, Capcom decided to finish it quickly and not make too much effort to release it. Think about it, Mr. X was almost certainly based off of Mega man X. More importantly though, the quote "Let the eternal struggle begin" that Sigma says and "Let the final battle begin" which Wily says has to be a reference. I like flameman's theme the best. Such a great build up and payoff with the Arabian sounding intense bridge of the tune. I liked the themes you mentioned as well. 100% agree with your review. Great job on the entire original nes megaman series reviews. How do you think you'd rank them on a tier list or is that future upload content?
I'll have to give FlameMan's song a second listen. Thanks! I've thought about doing a tier list of the nes games, but I'll probably wait until I get through all the classic series (1-11) and do a tier list then, or maybe just not do a tier list. With 1-6 I'd probably do this (my mind might change in the future): S Tier: 3, 4 A Tier: 2, 6 B Tier: 1 C Tier: 5 (I know I scored it higher than 1, but I feel like 1 ranks higher in the context of the entire series) D Tier: F Tier:
@MegaFan excellent tier. I might bump down 4 to A and bring 2 up to S just based on music and historical relevance but in practicality you're list is basically spot on. Thanks for sharing
Something interesting with 6 is that a lot of the design principles from starting the X series trickled over into classic. For the 8 robot masters it’s to the benefit of the design but for things like the Dino in wily 1 seem like they’d belong more in X than in classic. You mentioned the dragon from 2 and if you compare the two bosses you can see it’s not just the art improving but the design philosophy is also changing a bit because of the X series.
I said it before, if there are games you can't play because they aren't Ported/Re-released, you should use an Emulator for that. No need to be the "Good guy" for that. Anyway My review for Mega Man 6 Mega Man 6 is the most polished of the six games. It is a gorgeous game from start to finish. The stages are godsent, weapons get to shine unlike in Mega Man 5 and charged buster is nerfed. Bosses in this game might be the second best in the NES. In terms of flaws, The X and Wily stages are forgettable but endgame stages always have inferior level design. But the biggest flaw in this game is the slide mechanic because Mega Man can now jump out of a slide. This game could have easily got an 8/10 score if the slide problem wasn't there. It was big enough to deduce 20% of it's score. 6.4/10
Love the videos! I just played through the NES Mega Man games again really enjoyed 6, though I found it to be kind of a cake walk. Do you know what caused that steep decline in difficulty after 3?
Thanks! I definitely agree that the difficulty gets much easier after 3. I'm not sure what exactly caused it, but I feel like there are a lot of energy tanks in 4-6 and the charge shot is very powerful.
They got discouraged from making them difficult since 2. They got cagey due to being scared of poor sales so much they kept to a lower bar. It compares to 4 here, I think.
IMO the charge shot usually gets cited for the decrease in difficulty, but for all the folks that tell me 4 is the one that gives them the most trouble, I have to disagree somewhat. Then 5 comes along and the charge shot is OP (also didn't help that the boss weapons were (IMO) the weakest lineup in the series). Then 6 comes along and it's all balanced out again. The rough edges in 1-3's stage design and how unbalanced their boss weapons were made those three harder than they should've been. 4-6 has the polish from lessons learned from those games so by the time we got to them, we were already crazy good at Mega Man games so they felt easier than they actually were. At least that's how I view the declining difficulty in 4-6.
14:13 I think that was the joke about how bad the disguise was. They knew everyone knew Wily was gonna be the bad guy so they made a joke about how stupid the disguise was. 21:37 really weird that none of the music stood out to you but I thought it was the best soundtrack overall. Lots of great tracks, and the final Wily fight theme has a sense of finality to it. Your score is more than fair
What people don't like about Mega Man 6 101: The slide and getting your jumps eaten during the dinosaur fight who you can't hit half the time when you try and damage him with his weakness. Bonus: Literal fucking scorn for the wall climbing boss in x2. Yeah, Mega Man 6 is clearly an upgrade in almost all phases of the game. The soundtrack is practically nothing but Ballads, which makes the game have a somber tone throughout, which works in some stages, but it's not my favorite. I will say that I found the majority of the X/Wily stage robot fights to be decent, the video you used shows that it's designed to be used with the POW suit (the 1st one) and the 3rd one is cool, idk about unfinished. The Mr. X fight is very cool cuz of the POW suit. The dinosaur fight isn't as cool as the Big Pets fight from 5, but it's a similar idea, you ride the platform up to hit it, also you can launch the platforms back at the dinosaur with POW for 1 damage. I 100% disagree, I think this is the best wily fight in NES. But, they are allowed to do it because they do the mega man 3 thing and don't have a wily fight immediately afterwards, which allows for you to have a3 phase wily fight. The thing about it that wasn't cool is that Silver Tomahawks is the weakness for all 3 phases. I think mm5 did it 2nd best, but tbh, MM9 will eventually do it the absolute best later on. This time the joke is that it's obviously Mr. X. They were going more for a comedic effect in my opinion. People just wanted more mega man, doesn't matter if they had a plot for it. Similar thing with the Ending. They were probably also focusing mostly on the X games at this point as far as REALLY pushing narrative, not necessarily they were focusing on the lack of ideas, because 6 has some great ideas. 10/10 game, not sure if it's better than 2, but it is better than 5 and 1.
I never tried the pow of any of the bosses, so maybe I missed something. It's fine if Mr. X is just a big joke, but it just didn't work for me. I really liked the story of 3 and 4. There is some really subtle story telling, and it's little moody, and I just didn't get what they were going for with Mr. X. I definitely agree that 6 is better than 5 and 1.
It was published by Nintendo because Capcom wasn't going to but two robot masters were created by North Americans. They continued the classic series, though. X wasn't the continuation so much as a new thing.
@@MeguhFan love your content man. I dont know if you were planning on tsckling the X series but it would be cool if you could mention some of the musical references within the X and classic series
@@mango010 Thanks! I really appreciate that! Yes, I'm definitely planning on getting into the X series after I finish the classic series. I'll keep the music in mind when I get there.

This was a fair analysis of the game. You touched on something that could actually be distinct in the original series. At least that's how I view the declining difficulty in 4-6.
@@gwgux That's an interesting take. I agree that 4-6 are a little more polished, and so some difficulty is lost there.
Will you also review the gameboy mm games? They are só good.
I would like to eventually. Right now they're a little expensive, so hopefully they either get released in a collection or on Switch Online.
The power suit reminds me of the gaea armor from Mega man X5
Yeah, it definitely set a trend for the armor we see in the x series.
Mr. X logo looks similar to the X letter in Megaman X
Yeah, it does, but I can't find any connection online.
great job...nailed it.
Thanks! I really appreciate the comment!
You forgot Metall Potton and Squidon, you only mentioned half of the Mid-Bosses of the game.
4:08 Perhaps the most frustrating level in the entire Mega Man Nes series.
This is one of my favorite nes games. I had it as a kid.
I'm really looking fwd to more of uour works
Thanks! I'm playing through 7 now, so hopefully it won't be too long of a wait.
10/10 game, not sure if it's better than 2, but it is better than 5 and 1.
also I left a comment on your 4 video not sure if you saw it.
The only thing that I can say about this game is the music is not as good as two or three
I agree that the music isn't quite as good at 2 or 3.
It was published by Nintendo because Capcom wasn't going to but two robot masters were created by North Americans.
They continued the classic series, though. X wasn't the continuation so much as a new thing.
You remind me of Lex Fridman
That's a huge complement! Thank you!
Avid viewer, huge fan.
Thanks! I really appreciate the support!
