First of anything on RUclips where I dragged my couch to my monitor, turned my speakers on full blast and made myself a bowl of popcorn to watch this masterpiece. Great job Ryan and the rest of the crew! Yall did wonderfully. Looking forward to the future of Film Riot.
Film pornfilm. Xix fiñm x.
Never use a monitor or a smartphone to watch a movie !!!
Well, your trailer did not lie. This short film really does blur the line between Independent and Hollywood films.
You should be making feature length films.
Cj Kalandek i agree
I agree.

Agree
I... AGREE
Love the cinematography, tone and especially the pacing. It feels like a real movie that could've been maybe 40 minutes, but it was only 15.
After 3 years I still think this is Ryan's best film. It feels complete. The editing is also really really good. Thanks Film Riot.
@TOGOMEDIA Muzik ????
You definitely nailed mood, tone and atmospher Ry-guy!
D4Darious yeah it's visually capturing... Me sub to U♥
Hey it’s Darius Britt! I’m scrolling through and I’m like hey I know you!
YO its Darious
D4Darious foooo!!!
UNSOUND was the epic one too brother....liked the both..the movie and making.... great work
17:13 Damn right I read all the credits! Nothing shall be left unseen!!! Love you too Ryan. Beautiful movie. Stunning from start to finish.
Same here, and I caught that line, too. :-)
Are you actually reading this. Damn right I am!!! LOL
lmao me too
Me too! Also why was there a snake wrangler in the credits? Did I miss a snake in the short? Was there a scene with one that was cut? Or are we talking 'snake' as in a bundle of audio cables?
Ryan, I think you just made your breakthrough short film
(I'm writing this halfway through)
I agree
(Update : I was right)
Yeah. That was awesome. Legit.
does anyone know if there is a channel that posts videos so that they can receive a larger audience
Hahaha, at the end “Are you actually reading this” you rock man, and so far one of my sources of inspiration, can’t wait to see more 🎥
You actually read it, lol.
Feels like there is no beginning and ending, just a scene from a long film. There are a lot of things not explained in this short, and hopefully they will be clarified in the other shorts in this cinematic universe.
Note the infinity necklace!
he just want to show what the effect he use... they sell it...
I have a new favorite cinematic universe!
Silas Willoughby there’s no post credit scene though :(
Max true 😂
SENTiNEL had the hand thing with the countdown
PROXiMITY had the one with the weird numbers on the ankles
And BALLiSTIC had both. Also in the end the girl got captured, exactly how the guys from PROXiMITY were captured in the beginning
So I guess it would make sense if stage 1 is SENTiNEL, stage 2 is BALLiSTIC, and stage 3 is PROXiMITY
yeah, it was pretty obvious that Proximity is third stage as the bad guys are wearing the black t-shirts and the head sack thing was exactly the same worn for all the victims in Proximity.
It’s all part of LiCU - Lowercase i Cinematic Universe
Endix I think your right
Wish it was a regular full length movie after seeing this
Me too
Has anyone else been waiting all day, just constantly reloading the FIlm Riot channel just to make sure your notifications didn’t fail?
No? Just me?
Hmm… Damn.
H&H Productions lmao you’re not alone.
Thank god, I though I was iNSANE
BUT WHAT'S STAGE THREEE!!!!!
CheapAssReviews I'd say : Sentinel = stage 1. Ballistic = stage 2. Proximity = stage 3.
I’m guessing the other film PROXiMITY that they made
CheapAssReviews that's going to be his next short
Full-length feature film ;)
The next stage is using the capital "i"
Just finished watching and holy shit, Ryan!
Seriously, congratulations for this, and I'm excited to watch your first feature on the movies
This is the only short film that I want to see what happens next.
For those struggling to understand the story; this is what I *think* its about:
Correct me if Im wrong but I believe they're in a time where nuclear warfare is something that is common or expected and the flashbacks are of a mother and her daughter as the blast went off - They end up fighting over a bunker and in the end only the daughter survives. The woman running from the dudes in the car graveyard is the daughter that survived the blast and ended up in some kind of program that risks her life and she managed to escape.
This story is somehow linked with SENTiNEL and PROXiMITY (hence the lower case i's) but that I still dont understand.
Personally I think its really well written, it just takes some thinking to understand. I cant wait for the next short! :)
Yep!
Film Riot Yay! Now how is it linked to the other shorts? Or will all be revealed in the next one? ;)
Wait... if they are all connected... then PROXiMITY was phase 1 due to the ankle bracelets and SENTiNEL was the start of stage 2 due to the countdown clock on the wrist.
So that's right? It sums it up for me too!
Qilt don’t know if the story is original
PROXiMITY, SENTiNEL, BALLiSTIC - are all part of LiCU - Lowercase i Cinematic Universe
Max I hope this becomes a thing. Long live the LiCU!
ok
Plus side : the production values, stunts, effects, action. They are on par with Hollywood films made on hundreds of millions of dollars.
Negatives : For a film almost 16 minutes long, it lacked an emotional depth. I didn't cheer when the bad guys died. I didn't feel like on the edge of my seat to cheer for Dana to survive.
The techniques and effects are top notch, but the story needs to connect more.
You gotta be kidding. dude. "Lacked emotional depth"?! You didnt feel anything when the little girl shot her mom by mistake? Check your pulse if youre alive
calm down. I just said what I felt honestly. To be more clear, its a brilliant film and directed so well. In the short film realm, it has raised the benchmark of production.
But Ryan could have done with a better writer.
To begin with, I didn't know why the bad guys were trying to kill Dana? What was the motive of the characters behind their actions? And to answer your question, we know so little about mom and her daughter. There was a lack of character development there which would have enabled us to feel more for them rather than just watching whats going on. Who was the stranger, who was Nate? Okay, there was some sort of apocalypse, but what were the stakes? What is the cause and effect at play here?
All I am saying is that 17 minutes were good enough for a significant character development to give more space to a normal audience who havent seen Proximity or Sentinel (I havent seen both as well as i just came to this channel)
If you are going to be hostile to anyone who gives their honest opinion , good luck with that attitude.
nikhil, dude that exactly what i thought. I was actually kinda cheering for the bad guys, cus i didn't like the protagonist.
Agreed. I was getting bored towards the end.
Nikhil Chandra
My opinion differs a little
I have rooted for the girl but
when she was hit like 3 times,
I haven't felt a damn thing.
It felt so mechanical rather than being emotional.
the countdown timer did work as a driving force for the action scenes
So when she killed those guys, it didn't feel real and Deep
What i wanted to say is that those hits which she took doesn't feel real
Dude, are you serious?! After 30 seconds in, I forgot this was on RUclips and wasn't a real movie! Amazing job. I've been following your channel for about a year now and only checked out the tutorials and advice videos. Now I get the pleasure of binge watching your short films 😄
This is a real movie son!
@@televszn Facts!
Forgot I was watching this on youtube. Absolutely insane. Everything was so professional. The acting was great, the cinematography, lighting, and storyline were just superb. I felt so drawn in, especially into the flashbacks, they lasted the perfect amount of time to make you forget about the "now" then spit you right back out. Amazing well done to everyone that took part in creating this.
YEEAAHHHHHBABY!!!!
Very VERY! Good. i like that you show Human Bodies flying around due to explosions. Definitely something Hollywood directors can learn from you. REALISM. Nice, Excellent work.

Poor girl with the red shoes . She fought hard , deserves to be freed . Great work guys 👏🙌❣
I like the black mirror vibe and the fact that is connected to sentinel and proximity, good job, congrats...
Well, Film Riot was fun while it lasted. If you want to see content from the Conollys from here on out, you'll need a ticket at the megaplex.
Meaning, your work should be on a bigger screen than my computer monitor.
Oh my god that was incredible. I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS BEAUTIFUL UNIVERSE YOU HAVE CREATED, RYAN!
Outstanding work from Josh Tessier, Frank Ceglia .Steve Fuller, Todd Tucker and the whole Stunt Crew. The grenade finale was AWESOME!!

Very beautiful cinematography and worth the wait! Production value and sound were on point! After reading through the comments, it sounds like it ties into Proximity and Sentinel somehow, so that's cool! I'm not sure I get the story right off the bat, but I love the flashbacks and just overall pacing and style of it! Bravo!
Yeahhh I'm gonna need BTS as soon as possible.
definitely me too.. BTS pls..
Eric Chesek same
seriously... I wanna know how they did the effects
This movie gave me chills. Not because it was scary or anything, but because I have been watching Film Riot for years now. It's incredible to see how far you and your crew have come Ryan, and I am VERY impressed. I have learned so much from your channel from how to get stable shots to VFX and SFX. I'm so glad to be able to say that you are my biggest inspiration. Gj -Nico
Nico's Films still don’t have a good story or villains
With indies pumping out this type of quality, excitement and excellent story craft, it should be an inspiration. Holly Wood is no longer the de facto deities of film. Bravo!
Things i didnt dig:
1. Bad guy's performance
2. Gun she was shooting from, it felt light and cheap when the man in black picked it up
3. Thats it
Other than that I loved it. The tone and music is absolutely epic. Did not realise where those 15 mins went
For #2 - that is a real gun.
Its not about what it was, it is about what it felt like to us. That is what you taught us using different sounds for different things in foley and more stuff like that. It didnt feel real. Also i just want to point out that i absolutely loved the behind the scenes video. Give us more of those
A+ for effort and execution. You really made it look perfect. Personally, I am not really fond of it from a story perspective because of several reasons. As a standalone short is very confusing and filled with predictable moments. Loved that you made the female lead strong and smart but this trait is kinda taken away by having dumb enemies. Secondly, I hate flashbacks as they ruin structure. I have this intense fight to watch yet I have to be brought back to some important moment in time in the past that gives the protagonist strength and context. Also hated her moments when she was down and then got up. They were not emotional nor intense. Thirdly, while the action seems important to the story it doesn't really has any weight. There is little tension in the house and little context to the car park sequence to make it dramatic. At this point in time we are just watching action porn. Anyway, despite my feedback I REALLY appreciate this short film as I know how hard is to make one. And you have come really far. KEEP IT UP!
It's not a standalone short though. And the flashback in the house with the guy was pretty tense to me.
you gotta understand that this is just a snapshot into the complex world that Ryan has created. All the shorts tie in, and we're only seeing a small part of that world. You gotta stop thinking like a critic and think like a fan!
Proximity had a beginning, middle and end. With a Little story. There were questions at the end because it was a good cliff hanger. I was completely lost with Ballistic.
Exactly. Proximity was so well-made because it actually had a story. And there was enough exposition to know what was going on, for the most part.
You gotta understand that even movies that are part of a bigger picture need to make sense on their own. Look at every trilogy out there. And with the last phrase you basically said stop thinking just be a fanboy. There are enough praises here, and as an artist myself I know that feedback is precious. Never deny feedback. Even if you don't agree with it.
IT'S HERE BOYS
I just watched this again for the first time in years. Yep. This needs to be expanded to feature length. There's certainly enough of the untold story to flesh out, and this portion of the story is already shot and edited. You are ahead of the game.
I didn't understand it. But the vfx were amazing
Awesome movie Ryan!!!! At the end when we saw "Starting the Stage 3", I thought we were in the middle of the movie. It did not feel like 17 minutes at all because of the action. Very entertaining! :-)
love the mood, and really nailed tone, and not that I'm here to judge, just thought you might like the feedback. I love the action scenes and the amazing editing through them, but I really didn't care about the character in the actions scenes, I hope I'm out numbered here and that most people connected to the character. I just felt like it was action without reason, there wasn't really story to the action, and I didn't understand the importance of the flashback scenes except that it was her moms "keep moving" that inspired her to survive at the end, during "bad guy monologue". I think tho it was paced amazinigly, it felt like a 5 min film and I loved the bomb explosive scenes, fucking amazing. I hope you aren't discouraged by this comment or think that this is everyones opinion, its just mine. anyway HUGE FAN and will support you in anything. Def impressed by the filmmaking in this one.
No, you are absolutely correct in your assessment. I literally was more invested in the comments below than the characters.
My sentiments exactly. The production was so good yet I did not feel a connection with the character.
It’s not a gender issue; e.g. watching Ripley in Aliens was gripping and engaging.
I wonder if it was because the stakes were too obscure; what was the timer and conjunctival injection issue? Why were the guys shooting at her?
Why was she shooting at them?
Perhaps the flashbacks could have informed us?
I came away feeling stupid; the opposite of dramatic irony I suppose.
That said, let me be clear; the production quality was incredible. I am so many orders of magnitude below this level of skill and am fully aware of how poor my videos are.
I don't understand why people can't seem to understand the story😂
Extremely well done, and probably my favorite short films of all time if I'm being honest!
Can you please summarize the plot?
@@rajeshwarsharma1716 The story is pretty simple but at the same time, they missed to add some visual clues to help it. It is a near future era where people needs time to survive and that is the roots of confrontation between citizens. There is also this parallel story of the protagonist origin with her mother struggling to get her to safety. The blurry part is that you don't really know the motive behind the kidnappers and attackers cause she is dealing with kidnappers and attackers at the same time.
Rajeshwar Sharma yes that would be practical
@@Srpremil thanks.
@@rajeshwarsharma1716You're welcome brother
Very nice job everyone. The pacing was pretty amazing on this one.
Jesus, you guys are such an inspiration. Best short yet. I hope to someday come close to this excellence. Film Riot Forever!
jeepers kreppers that kept me in suspense the whole time..now I can't sleep!
Thanks for watching!
Kept me hanging on every scene and every action! Storyline, acting, set, choice of location, effects, cinematography....everything makes this well worth the watch! Awesome job!
Well Done!!! So many try to make a short film...few succeed. I'm impressed and just wanted to let you know that what I just watched requires a TON OF TIME and Patience. WELL DONE!

Are you telling me this man managed to write a better version of a “strong female character” in 17 mins than most of modern movies in two hours?
AMAZING !! Great story, acting, stunt work and direction. Kick ass action, and it kept me wondering what was happening throughout. Major props to the actors Hannah Ward (adult Dana), Kambry Musser (younger Dana) and Rachel Hendrix (Mother Sam). They added real depth to these characters that I haven't seen in a movie in quite a while. I was tearing up towards the end! I can't wait to see what happens in "Stage 3" :D Great job everyone!!!
Thank you! So glad you dug it!!!
What was the story?
Film Riot I still love you guys, not the way you think though... I'm talking sex.
Dan Lord So has there been a stage 1?
l loved ballistic and appreciate all the hard work that went into it. I'll have to watch it again, but I still think proximity despite not being the best production value compared to ballistic, was my favorite short Ryan's done.
I think what made proximity work well, despite not much to go off of, was that the beginning was slower and gave us more time to digest and contemplate what was going on. In ballistic, while it makes sense after pausing, thinking, and rewinding, the initial watching of the movie was hard to keep up with; doable, but I wanted to stop and rewind.
Again amazing job Ryan, this was hollywood level! If you listen to your fans educational criticism, you will no doubt continue to grow and make amazing content, I'm sure of this!
Congratulations Ryan! Can’t wait to see a feature from you in the future. You’re a huge inspiration and I wish you the best. With love from Ireland 🇮🇪 x
YASSSSSSSSSSSSS Legit shouted this out loud in a supermarket
Wow this film is AMAZING!!!! if you told me this was some 200 million dollar Hollywood action movie I would believe you. Really well done!
Ok, this was related to PROXiMITY and SENTiNEL right? The arm, and the leg?
Yes I believe that, cool I'm not the only one.. they have to be related..
Echo Productions Yup
Josue Lemus they must be
Echo Productions of course they are related but r we going to get a sequel?
Ankit Kulkarni I don’t know, I would think so. But maybe he wants to save it for a feature...
The performances in the flashback story are some of the best i've seen on youtube, and the action is great
HOW did I miss this for almost 3 years? DAMN, son, this was amazing!
I feel like Ryan is has built an entire world with these short films. The lingering shots on her legs kept me thinking of PROXiMITY. I love that you left it ambiguous... it didn't feel like a cop-out. But now... A feature. Please? Pretty please? GODDAMMIT RYAN, PLEEEAAASSEEE?!
Hazzardworks I was thinking the same, maybe proximity was the stage one
Sentinel was stage one, ballistic stage 2 and proximity is stage 3! Think about it in the end when she gets captured the men are wearing the same clothes as in proximity!?
Also, its the same marks on their legs in both films.
You’re on to something
My kids say sentinel is part 1...
Anyone else notice how 1) PROXiMITY, SENTiNEL, & BALLiSTIC all have lower case i’s in the middle of the titles. 2) SENTiNEL and BALLiSTIC share similar flat glass touch devices. 3) PROXiMITY and BALLiSTIC have characters with three numbers tattooed on their ankles. 4) And all of the short films seem to be in some sort of a post-apocalyptic world? Is Ryan piecing together a puzzle with his shorts or am I crazy?
I think it is all one huge story. He should cut them together and make a feature film... either post on youtube or netflix
I mean, he made a video saying exactly this on Monday
50doctorwho I was unaware. Gonna check it out
BEAUTIFUL on my 21:9 monitor! Wonderful ... everything ...!
Interesting choice of lenses, I am really not sure about those circular flares, imho they really draw too much attention, I was often looking at them and not where I was supposed to because they were just soooo in your face...
Filip Mašek amazing but yeah those circular flares sorta kinda harsh
It’s almost as if he added in extra in post because it’s super difficult to get that many in camera. Some flares can add to a film but I agree that they are a distraction in this.
That was my only issue, the blue flares were used too often. I thought the scenes looked great without them.
Well done! The only problem is....... it’s only 17 mins! I want more, much much more!
Full feature film. GO!!!
Super good execution. The geek in me Loves the blue flares.
Those strong women everywhere but they cannot clean a vacuum by themselves
Or put up a shelf
I feel like some people are missing the fact that this obviously isn't the complete story, and that its ambiguous for a reason. There is a story here, we're just seeing a piece of it, it's pretty clear that Ryan has a much bigger vision with this story he's set up with PROXiMITY, SENTiNEL, and now BALLiSTIC. The execution was fantastic, fantastic performances and direction, excellently shot, and it served its purpose well, it got me curious to see what the rest of this story is, where it goes, and how it all ties together with the other films.
This is not a story. In a story a character comes to terms to a thing that they have struggled with for years and they are changed by it. There existence has a purpose or a character learns a lesson and and are changed by it. Having bits of peaces of a story with little to no answers is bad story telling. There are 2 main factors to making a grate story. 1 Actually having a story and having it complex . 2 The world. With out the world the story is plain. Yes story is number 1 but the world comes second. That is what used to make Star Wars so grate.
Gray Jedi then you don't understand story one bit, my friend. Especially if you're defining it with a scope that narrow.
Edit: I agree that Star Wars is great, but story has very little to do with whether or not a character is "coming to terms with" anything, even if it does encompass it.
I completely agree! This is almost like a cooler version of a show, and I can't wait to see where this universe goes!
Ryan: When are you finally gonna make your first 90min movie???
I've been watching you guys since the beginning, saw you grow over the years and I think you're ready.

The little girl did a good acting, I am so overwhelmed by your work, FILM RIOT thank you so much for the inspiration.
I do not know who will read this, but Ryan and your team, you deserve respect
These stunts are fantastic and had served a great purpose for the story! There are some stunt sequences in other films that look amazing, but I feel are just put into the project to make it look visually appealing. It's always a great payoff when every scene and action helps move the whole story forward. It keeps my attention and myself on the edge of my seat. Have you guys thought about continuing this story?
This is not short film.
This is feature film..... 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 super super
What your hard work. hats off you director and team 🙏
Liked this alot, but raises more questions than answers, definitely needs a part 2 at least
Adam Sherratt It literally does......And I hope there'll be one
you mean a part 3 ;-) (going by the countdown timer and how it ended Stage 2 and Stage 3 had just began) ;-)
So gunshot wounds mean nothing in this? She's shot in the chest and in the knee and she just brushes it off?
Other than that, it was great. Do I hear some Logan inspired score near the start?
yeah, that was weird. was the shot at the end showing her knee wasn't wounded intentional? i like movies to be subtle in their story telling but if we were supposed to get that she can heal quickly or something from this there was zero hint to that and just looked like sloppy production.
same with the part where they come in shooting at there, and the guy tells them to stop, suddenly they dont know where she is... they just saw her jump over a car bonnet.
Michael Boyle they were showing it like a Video game because story is about that
VansHTHeONE what is the story about?
Cromwell Fluffington story about surviving when ballistics were dropped in the whole world (like a video game) so you have to complete every stage to survive
VansHTHeONE that's a premise.
I think this is your best short so far. The dialogue is distinctly you. I'll admit I didn't believe the little girl's performance. The production value & fx are impressive, but one thing to consider is, if you're looking for studios or others with clout to see your work & want to give you a shot, I think they're already used to seeing high production value. What's going to likely make someone want to back you is something that moves them or shakes them to their core emotionally. That's what lasts. High production value and cool vfx are easy to come by & even easier to forget in modern cinema.
Connolly and Andrew kramer, what a team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
under 5K crew!!
The production quality of this is amazing, but what really got me is the next layer that you discover when you put the puzzle pieces together. Wow!
SPOILER SPOILER
To me, this is about a girl who experienced trauma in her childhood. The "stage 2" is her later life, shown as a game. When you watch it the 2nd time, you notice it's clearly a game: she's got a gun right at the beginning, she's figuring out new weapons. She got just enough inventory to get her through the stage. At the end, though, she discovers she didn't have to play that game at all - she had the code with her all the time (tattooed on her leg). She plays this infinite fuelled by her trauma, which is shown symbolically as the mother giving her the infinity necklace. That's what makes her run in loops. Now, what's gonna happen on stage 3? Depends of how much she learned from stage 2...
I love this so much. The acting is incredible and thanks for sharing all the behind the scenes stuff as well. My favourite short film by far!
This deserves a 2 hour movie in theaters lol.
Impressive
This is definitely still my favorite movie you guys have ever made. Making films like this is why I got into filmmaking in the first place. Someday I'll get there.
Brilliant!
Where's the gunshot wounds and blood after she gets shot in the shoulder and the leg? She must have been Supergirl!!
Just watched it again.... I just noticed the Boss yelling at the guys @3:13 "what are you shooting at.... ____ ______(can't make out dialogue) metal" Sorry Ryan, didn't pick up that important dialogue.
"leave the asshole kissing to metal"? its completely incomprehensible. i'd have to isolate the audio track or something to hear it whatever it is.
He actually says, "which one of you assholes can see through metal", I know this because I was there and heard it live! :)
Finally.
Amazing short film. The little girl is a great actress. I enjoy watching this film a lot!
Fifty seconds into the film and i'm hooked.
Congrats on the 1 mil on the video! Seen it when it first released. Can’t wait to make one of my own! Short films ftw!
Anyone else notice her necklace was an infinity symbol.
bumbed me out that they went there
Very well done Guys! Nailed it!
This is pretty damn good. Would love to see what you could do with a budget like the Hollywood producers.
amazing casting - in particular, both Danas were amazing actors - and they look so much alike!
Great little flic, makes me want more. Wish it told more about what was going on. Very well acted.
Nailed it! Ok lemme go watch it one more time.
**WHO ELSE THINKS THIS SHOULD BE IN THE CINEMAS?**
Cascadium I want a blu-ray release
At 17 minutes? no. In order to get a feature film funded he would have to add a love interest and a bit of comedy. The Comedy they're good at. But I've NEVER seen a love interest in his films.
your first assistant director will save us from skynet !!!
Who actually reads the credits? I read them.
You're such a legend
AMAZING 💛
thank Ryan Connolly for such a wonderful movie i love this style from Uganda
That was enjoyable. I like how everyone has great dental work in the post-nuclear world. What was stage 1 and I hope to see stage 3.
I believe stage one was Proximity.
Wow , what a fantastic short film . This had me captivated from start to finish . Great job , thank you :)
i do appreciate if you can make a full movie out of it...i will be the first one to view it and recommend to my friends..
LMAO "Are you actually reading this? Who actually reads this? Well... Hi. Love you. Bye!
Ever since I've started college, I've never skipped credits even on Cinema's or BluRays. It's just so inspiring to see and to imagine that one day I could see my name on that list when I graduated is just so exciting.
