a friend of mine was surprised when Frank walked in to play the gig .. My pal was star struck but Frank said relax lets just have some fun . a true gentlemen.as well as a great talent ..
Hey how about my two favourite "bone men". Rosolino and Fontana! I never cease to be amazed at Rosolino's offerings. Never runs out of ideas...He can actually drag a rythmn section along, instead of them carrying him. No need here tho, I like this section very much. Frank can get a little "heavy" with those "dahdlee- dah..dahdlee-dah reps...but they make Frank yards ahead of other trombonists. I'd rate him the best of all-time with Fontana a close second...then 5 or 6 others like Fuller and Winding for instance right up there . The "bone" is just...different, and I'd guess, a difficult axe!
I met Frank in the late 60's. Not only was he a terrific player, he was gracious and friendly.
Very true!

A trombone genius! I idolized his style as a youngster. Tragic ending to a great musical genius.

One of my favorite renditions--what a player! Many thanks for this upload.
