Amo esse vídeo! Duas lendas do trombone: Raul De Souza e Frank Rosolino! Esse encontro entre esses Mestres ficou na História do Trombone! Love this video! Two legends trombone: Raul De Souza and Frank Rosolino! This meeting between these Masters went down in History Trombone!
Its kinda funny seeing Raul de Souza dance around during his solo with Frank Rosolino standing totally still and the only part of him moving being his slide arm... They sounded fantastic together though
It's funny watching the videos of Frank compared to other soloists. The 0.1 second difference between the video and sound makes a bigger difference trying to follow his solo visually.
Frank Rosolino played so well. I saw him live on several occasions when I was very young. It was a tragic that just a few months after this concert he shot and killed two of his sons before turning the weapon on himself and ending what was a terrific musical career. Rest my dear Frank.
Raul's style soooo Latin and romantic...>Frank so musically sophisticated and virtuosic. It's easy to hear Franks complex knowledge of harmonics and abstract Jazz interpretation while Raul was simple and Romantic. 2 very contrasting styles. I can listen to any of Frank Rosolino's solos and always find something new in them.
Raul has great ideas. I never get tired of listening to him. I think Frank was unhealthy when he made this. Look at some of his pictures from this period.
Your posting give's me hope. I was initially devastated upon hearing the news that he had committed suicide. The fact that its a possibility he did not is very comforting. That would mean there is a chance that his soul may not have been placed in limbo. Horrible place, limbo. Wouldn't wish that on a disgusting dog. Thank you for sharing that information.
My ranking: Rosolino every time #1 ;The others in no particular order J.J, Raul de Suza, Trummy Young, Juan Tizol; Fontana just diddled around with too many chromatics with little melodic imagination without substance & not even on my list.
@@jeffreycraven8154 I took a semester off from Berklee (I'm an alto player) and played with Carl Fontana for 6 months in Vegas in '99. Watrous showed up, at random (as did many others) just to play and hang with Carl, about 5-6 times. He told me Fontana was the only bone player he truly admired. Carl called Watrous 'Mr Chops' in those days. Carl is certainly my absolute favorite bone player, as he was Rossolino's, and vice versa. They were of course dear friends. The stuff they did at the Tender Trap (which is now a strip club), is fabulous too. I got back to Berklee and took one of Hal Crook's classes, who asked why I took time from Berklee. He, and Phil Woods, both told me , "oh, Carl Fontana, the greatest trombone man ever". Yeah, worth it.
@@johnspelic9861 WowJohn, To have associated and played with some of the guys you've mentioned. You knew Phil Woods, that bowls me over! I've been trying to find Will Albry (not sure of the spelling) alt. sax, a dear friend & jam session buddy of mine, excellent jazz player; like me an alumni of WV Wesleyan College. If you know Will please ask him to look me up on Facebook under the name Jeffrey Craven. Thanks.
@joni4749 That's an interesting statement and gives more credibility to the mounting evidence that his wife did all of the shooting...I knew him, and saw him at Donte's a few days before the tragedy....he didn't look like a despondent person..others who knew him even better, like Med Flory, echo the same sentiment......so, I'm beginning to believe his wife did it........in which case you would have had to eliminate her!
This guy was a great musician and a great improvisationalist according to the facts she killed her self knowing he had an affair he then shot his 2 kids then killed himself some time later either way it sucks such a dual life
His death wasn't the BIG news...........it was that he supposedly shot his 2 kids (one lived)... Not sure if his wife is still alive....I hope that this case is solved...I more and more tend to believe that she did it!
Unfortunately rest will be denied him forevermore in limbo. Horrible place limbo. Pray the Creator Most High will have Mercy on him. that is the only thing we can do.

EXCELENTE MUSICA,AINDA MAIS QUANDO FRANK ROSOLINO E RAUL DE SOUZA RESOLVEM INTERPRETÁ-LA JUNTOS!
Beautiful sound
GREETINGS from Brazil
I didn't know Jimmy Hendrix played trombone.
Pelé e Garrincha! Ícones de 2 escolas.

Rosolino outclassed the shit out of Souza. Both in stage presence, and maturity with sound . Does a old dog really need to learn new tricks?
Que que é isso minha gente! Tocam muito!
Caraiiiiiiii !!!! Sensacional !!!!
Caraca véi, amazing too . . . . .
both at their best!
Amazing Love so much!!!
Frank,I love your heart!!!!!
BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!!!

You need listen again, Raul is on the same level.
He doesn't need copy anyone.
@@vanderley5752 No I do not need to listen again, I did not say Raul copy anyone. I said they are different.
RIP FRANK
I just wish the piano was softer!!! The backgrounds are covering up Rosolino's solo!
isso é muito top!
Two genius.
Frank was a nice guy he was a customer of mine at VW He later killed his familiy and himself I was saddened to hear. He was a brilliant musician

I love emptying my spit valve in front of people. Grosses them out every time. Ah Jazz, you have to love it.
Raul still does that, awesome guy.
YES.....
EL TROMBON ES UN INSTRUMENTO DE MUCHA INSPIRACION.
Raul has great ideas. I never get tired of listening to him. I think Frank was unhealthy when he made this. Look at some of his pictures from this period.
Well said. And Raul is still rocking to this day. Awesome guy and great trombone genius.
They're playing different instruments... jazz bone vs "symphony type" horn... it's all very interesting to hear
at 4.20 or so.. it's great talkin'

Raul é índio, agressivo e lindo. E, aí, kd???
I M P E C A V E L
I guess that settles it...you can, indeed, play jazz on a trigger large bore horn.
my personal fav's in no particular order: Rosolino, JJ, Fontana
My ranking: Rosolino every time #1 ;The others in no particular order J.J, Raul de Suza, Trummy Young, Juan Tizol; Fontana just diddled around with too many chromatics with little melodic imagination without substance & not even on my list.
I think that's a Bach Strad Model 48 de Suza's playing, is it?

Obrigado

Frank rosolino é o outro trombonista. Pianista não sei o nome.

EXQUISITESOUNDS
He certainly was a great trombone player but I would not rank him any higher than Curtis Fuller, and Carl Fontana was close.
Two very meaningless solos. No one can create a melody .
