    Are lower motor neurons part of the Peripheral Nervous System and are the upper motor neurons part of the Central Nervous System?

    I have upper motor neuron symptoms with positive pronator drift, hoffman sign, forarm roll, hyperactive reflexes but interestingly no babinski sign. I have no plantar reflexes at all. My tongue also has fasculations and a bit of tongue atrophy.

    I love this so much. My question is WHERE exactly is the "alpha motor neuron" in this whole process? Is the alpha motor neuron the lower motor neuron that is going to the skeletal muscles?

      Tyler Smith yes, alpha motor neurons and lower motor neurons are essentially the same thing

    Thank you so much for the video. One thing, my Anatomy and Physiology text by Tortora and Derrickson says that the pyramidal pathway is so named because the upper motor neurons from which it arises are pyramidal cells (a type of neuron named for appearance) in the cerebral cortex. According to them, it does not have this name because, as you say, it travels through the pyramids of the medulla. I'm no expert, I don't know who's right.
