Love my evo x. It's not just the power. For the price you get an amazing handling car. It's too fun on the twisties. Not too many cars in the price range can compete. Its just a huge plus that the engine can handle more power reliably
Its also a fact that the 4B11t is an all around better engine than the 4G63 unless you plan on exceeding 1200whp, then the 4G63 is better due to the closed deck iron block.
Awesome car! Had the opportunity to own an evo 9 and evo X both tune to push 400hp+ and never had any issues with them! Super fun to drive and relatively comfortable when you have family and kids. Looking to go back into Evolution again!
It was a few reasons they switched. It was about getting MIVEC on the exhaust side not just the intake side like the 4G63, which required the engine to be turned 180 degrees (sadly, the turbo now tucked into the firewall) but emissions naturally got better with MIVEC. They also went to an aluminum block to save weight because the car was targetted more as a touring car / BMW M3 competitor and added 600lbs in noise reduction and comfort touches. Own a 2014 X MR..it's nuts.
@@stephen9944 As far as I know, the added weight is from the additional airbags to meet stricter federal regulations and a 50% stiffer chassis (less body roll) than older models.
@@Yakobito additional airbags, for sure but the soundproofing and interior touches Mitsu added is a well-known weight gainer over the Evo's that came before. As far as a 50% stiffer chassis, and owning one myself, I've had to add Whiteline sway bars, end links and a Fortune Auto 500 set of coil-overs to get it to be flick-able around corners like the Evo 8/9's were so amazing at. Those changes were the first I made before adding bolt-ons and now that it's making 330/320 whp/tq, the car is untouchable on the track. I constantly hit 1:22 laptimes at my local track when $100,000+ rides are struggling to get 1:23's.
I have a evo III, and a M5 E60. Evo is just so good, so mechanical, so pure. I swapped the engine myself and did some porting and polishing, changed the turbo and this feather-weight magic just moves. Sometimes it gets scary, but man ALIVE this car is just so good. I wonder if the Evo X delivers the same mechanical experience.

this was the car in NFS Shift i used most for most of the races . i only choose other cars when category was different . otherwise it was my first choice , i used to love the corner speed , well balanced machine .

What people dont understand that the alluminum block of the 4B11 is extremely strong and more reliable for holding the power rather then the 4G63 is. In other words a built 4B11 is a stronger motor but stock block a 4G63 Can handle more power. Most evo shops and tuners perfer 10’s over 9 and 8’s.
You're spot on about 2nd gear Ross. Most of the Evo's have a high final drive around 4.5 (4.8 for the RS models) and it really shows when you floor it.....
@@RossReviewsau need to get you in a tuned X MR, that feeling lives from gear 1 to gear 6, the boost never drops because the RPM's never get a chance to drop less than 500rpm between shifts.
@@RossReviewsau First thing you'll need to do is: car in park, hit the SST selector to Sport, hold up until is says "S-SPORT", then hold the ASC button until it says "AYC BRAKE DISABLED". Now put in in auto-drive, slam left foot on the brake, and hold right foot on accelerator and watch it bounce off 5500RPM. Release the brake...hold the fuck on to the wheel lol.
@@RossReviewsau I have aftermarket Pioneer head unit in my BMW Z4 M Coupe. In the Navigation settings there is choice to turn on or off speed warning when exceeding the speed limit shown on the map. Maybe this is the issue with the Evo?
@@RossReviewsau I just threw that out there since my pioneer unit when navigation is opened there is icon to open up settings. I know I was able to turn off the nanny telling me exceeding the speed limit since navigation knows speed limit. Was your navigation screen opened? Just guessing.

It’s still a great engine, it just doesn’t have the over 3 decades of motorsports pedigree and aftermarket support that the 4G63 does. For these reasons I think a lot of people have an irrational aversion to it.
That car is obviously modified. Beyond the exhaust and upper pipe, the pops and bangs indicate at least a tune. No telling if the suspension was upgraded as well, but what you're reviewing and enjoying is an upgraded form of the car. Just wanted to point that out.

I got an MR 1 year ago with leather recaros and dual clutch trans. Amazing car but u have to tell everyone interested in buying one of these ones: You HAVE to replace the fuel pump RELAY (search in ytube)

Ive had all sorts of cars, my Evo X was the best of the lot. Edited, I tuned mine to just over 400kw at the wheels, it was fucken berserk. The engine eventually failed at almost 300,000km. At the moment I still have it and I hope to get it back on the road eventually: $20k required for that though. Anyone who wanted to help with that would score the car for 6 months as a thank you.
@@chasegray1522 it had a timing chain issue (the chain was worn and had jumped at least one tooth) that my mechanic misdiagnosed as a problem with the exhaust cam, they tried to fix it with a flush of some kind, and managed to introduce the valves to the pistons while the car was idling on the dyno.
Update: I'm a week or two away from getting my Evo back from an engine rebuild and new rotating assembly, turbo and various other bits... if there's one good thing about COVID-19, its the 'raid your super for up to 20 grand' which I did. Total cost of the rebuild is close to 15k, but it's going to be worth every cent!

evo 7-10 are king. I love the 7-0 more then the 10 but i wouldnt mind a evox haha and they didn't use the 4g63 because the 4b11 has a alloy block and better tech. By in track racing and drags 4g63 is easier to get power out of

its great you paid homage to the last evo..... but a few things tbh I was dissapointed with. you kept saying it feels like an evo???? that's because it is mate and you kept referencing the 4g63 which I agree is a great motor. you seem to have forgotten or not know what the motor in the evo x is.... its called a 4B11. its much more refined and in my opinion better . the mivec speaks for itself and that's just a start. the factory internals are much stronger and allow for more power before having to build the bottom end. the 4g was a ticking time bomb if the motor wasn't built. enjoyed the vid. cheers
when i reviewed this car it was my first experience in a evo x so i was fairly unfamiliar.. was mainly trying to emphasise that the new one still felt like a older evo n had the same characteristics (4g63) witch was a good thing :) appreciate your feed back all helps me make better reviews

the 4B11T is also as square an engine as it gets. 86x86mmx4. That's why it's a very harmoniously-balanced engine from the factory. Also, your smile of the corner is likely in large part due to the S-AWC on the car. Mechanical torsen-type front diff, Active center, and that fantastic torque-vectoring AYC diff in the rear. IMO, regardless of the power delivery, it's what makes the X a better driver's car than the IX. Don't get me wrong, an Evo is an Evo, which always means Beast Mode comes standard. But the X keeps the badge competitive against most modern tech-laden cars primarily due to its ground-breaking AWD setup. Which, again, keeps it competitive even after over a decade since it first went on sale.

It's not a borla, you can tell by the tip size and the way it connects under the car. Borla's are a lot tidier and don't hang down like the one Ross is reviewing. If you want a proper sounding Evo X, the best addition is an ETS High Flow Catback and keeping the stock Catback until you can save for a better catback than the Borla; the high flow catalytic converter affects the tone the most and will allow for a faster exhaust exit.
@@RossReviewsau the MR shifts pretty hard for a automatic. The final edition manual has more torque and horsepower! Its unfortunate that evos won't be brought back but the good news is that vr4s might be brought back to compete against the new supras
@@RossReviewsau I agree but you know the evos drivetrain is incomparable! Meaning vr4 might have bigger engine but evos are more fun to drive. What got me falling for the Evos was when I took the test drive at dealership. The salesman asked me to sit on passenger side and that he wanted to show me something. We took a drive around a curvy road and as soon as he hit a big curvy road. He step on the gas I'm thinking damn we going crash and tip over but I notice how much control the evo can drift and turn when it seems like we were going lose control lol. Basically the price we pay for the evos isnt high because of the hp or design or name itself. It's the handling. The evos is comparable to nissan gtr drivetrain!

4b11 is better than a 4g63 in my opinion.
Still not sure how I feel if I had to chose one 😅 but nevertheless it 100% did not let me down! Was a great performing engine during my test 🙌🔥

All manual evo X’s are 5 speed. The only 6 gear transmission is the MR edition and they are auto/SST.

Brake fade might be an issue on track if you leave brake system stock. Easily solved with high quality fluid and braided brake lines.

Why did the engine go? Like under stress in a race or something or it's just got old?
@@chasegray1522 it had a timing chain issue (the chain was worn and had jumped at least one tooth) that my mechanic misdiagnosed as a problem with the exhaust cam, they tried to fix it with a flush of some kind, and managed to introduce the valves to the pistons while the car was idling on the dyno.
Update: I'm a week or two away from getting my Evo back from an engine rebuild and new rotating assembly, turbo and various other bits... if there's one good thing about COVID-19, its the 'raid your super for up to 20 grand' which I did. Total cost of the rebuild is close to 15k, but it's going to be worth every cent!

evo 7-10 are king. I love the 7-0 more then the 10 but i wouldnt mind a evox haha and they didn't use the 4g63 because the 4b11 has a alloy block and better tech. By in track racing and drags 4g63 is easier to get power out of

its great you paid homage to the last evo..... but a few things tbh I was dissapointed with.
you kept saying it feels like an evo???? that's because it is mate and you kept referencing the 4g63 which I agree is a great motor. you seem to have forgotten or not know what the motor in the evo x is.... its called a 4B11. its much more refined and in my opinion better . the mivec speaks for itself and that's just a start. the factory internals are much stronger and allow for more power before having to build the bottom end. the 4g was a ticking time bomb if the motor wasn't built. enjoyed the vid. cheers
when i reviewed this car it was my first experience in a evo x so i was fairly unfamiliar.. was mainly trying to emphasise that the new one still felt like a older evo n had the same characteristics (4g63) witch was a good thing :)

Love the look of this particular EVO 10. The motor is certainly potent, but is it as bullet proof as the 4G-63 plant? Nice review.

the 4B11T is also as square an engine as it gets. 86x86mmx4. That's why it's a very harmoniously-balanced engine from the factory. Also, your smile of the corner is likely in large part due to the S-AWC on the car. Mechanical torsen-type front diff, Active center, and that fantastic torque-vectoring AYC diff in the rear. IMO, regardless of the power delivery, it's what makes the X a better driver's car than the IX.
Don't get me wrong, an Evo is an Evo, which always means Beast Mode comes standard. But the X keeps the badge competitive against most modern tech-laden cars primarily due to its ground-breaking AWD setup. Which, again, keeps it competitive even after over a decade since it first went on sale.

It's not a borla, you can tell by the tip size and the way it connects under the car. Borla's are a lot tidier and don't hang down like the one Ross is reviewing. If you want a proper sounding Evo X, the best addition is an ETS High Flow Catback and keeping the stock Catback until you can save for a better catback than the Borla; the high flow catalytic converter affects the tone the most and will allow for a faster exhaust exit.

MR is faster than 5 speed manual transmission! Paddle shifters shift faster and it's a 6 speed versus 5 speed manual
yes i hope to test out the MR one day to see the difference.. would be substantial im sure. but i love a manual
@@RossReviewsau the MR shifts pretty hard for a automatic. The final edition manual has more torque and horsepower! Its unfortunate that evos won't be brought back but the good news is that vr4s might be brought back to compete against the new supras

@@RossReviewsau I agree but you know the evos drivetrain is incomparable! Meaning vr4 might have bigger engine but evos are more fun to drive. What got me falling for the Evos was when I took the test drive at dealership. The salesman asked me to sit on passenger side and that he wanted to show me something. We took a drive around a curvy road and as soon as he hit a big curvy road. He step on the gas I'm thinking damn we going crash and tip over but I notice how much control the evo can drift and turn when it seems like we were going lose control lol. Basically the price we pay for the evos isnt high because of the hp or design or name itself. It's the handling. The evos is comparable to nissan gtr drivetrain!
