Matt wrote this song for Val. She's the whole reason they were able to release Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. She borrowed money to pay for the whole recording process, and she did guest vocals on a song called The Art of Subconscious Illusion from this album. Matt played the piano (the original release of StST had a Justin Sane credit for piano that was switched on the 2002 re-release, and some people assume it was The Rev, but Matt has credits for playing keyboards across the whole album and there are only a few songs with keyboards) and acoustic guitar and did all of the vocals, Zacky played all of the electric guitar, Justin Sane played bass, and The Rev played drums.
This song was their very first single, and they released a music video for it after Syn joined the band. Syn sat and mimed Matt's acoustic parts. In my opinion, Zacky's solo is actually one of the most emotional in any Avenged Sevenfold song. He cannot be underestimated. This has been played at a ton of weddings over the years. It's only been played as an instrumental live with Syn soloing over it, but one day, hopefully they'll do a full live performance of it.
I'm glad you've experienced this. The first album is a lot more diverse than most people realize. To End the Rapture has both a piano version and a guitar re-release with Syn, Streets is the oldest song Matt wrote, and Shattered by Broken Dreams is the band's first big epic. The rest are groovy metalcore songs, and Zacky wrote a ton of great riffs. You'll get to all of these songs soon now that a lot of new material has been done. It's exciting.
You're the first person to react to this song, and it's a great honor to see. ❤
This is a song from their first album "Sounding The Seventh Trumpets" (2001). On this album Matt must be between 18-20 years old, hence his voice is quite different.
It's a very beautiful ballad and it's incredible that even on their first album, where they didn't even know how they wanted to sound, they made songs like that. More impressive I would say is the change they make with their second album "Waking The Fallen" (2003) where they make a very much superior album, in my opinion. From the start they aimed high.
Matt sang these high notes so he could sing those I Won't See You Tonight high notes. He did that for us. 😌
Next ones: Desecrate through Reverence, Clairvoyant Disease, Second Heartbeat (studio version) Betrayed, Bat Country, The Wicked End, Doing Time, Requeim, Coming Home, God Damn, Creating God, Simulation, Lost it all, Until the end, Demons, Tension. That s all, thanks so much ^^
I want this song played at my wedding, its so beautiful
Finally! Great reaction! We knew you wouldn't expect that.
Synyster Gates was actually not with the band when they did this album. Zac did all they guitar work. I would guess Matt was on the piano. Him and Jimmy both played the piano some.
This was their very first single from their first album if not actually their only single from Sounding The Seventh Trumpet. It’s one of my favourite songs from their first album and it’s M Shadows on the piano I believe
This is such a great song! I love the whole album. Didn't expect to see this
We played this at our wedding, as a lot of people have 😊
The two voices at the end are indeed both Matt.
The vocals on this album are all Matt, I think. When you see their breakdown episodes, you see the amount of layering they have. Matt basically records at least one high pitch, one low pitch, to bring out the harmony.
One case on the album where the vocals aren't all Matt is in The Art of Subconscious Illusion. Val has a verse, and The Rev also did some growls.
The rev and Matt can both play piano but I’m pretty sure this is Matt playing the piano. Also avenged sevenfold can do any genre
What makes things extra confusing is Justin Sane played piano for Pinkly Smooth. Any of the 3 could have played it, but in the music video, though it's hard to tell without tattoos, I'm pretty sure Matt's hands were playing.

A7X 🎶👍👍👍
This song being about Val makes it even better knowing now 20 years later they’re married with kids, she’s a true ride or die chick and would even help them out with stuff like money for recording or touring etc when they were first trying to make it. She plays his girlfriend in the seize their day music video as well. Fun fact guitarist synyster gates is also married to Val’s twin sister and has kids with her too. Anyway love all your A7X reviews, keep up the good work.
Warmness on the soul alright! :-)
Unless I'm mistaken, the guitarist in this album was just Zachy V. I think I read that Syn did one song towards the end of recording. If I'm wrong, I apologize!
Na, you are essentially correct. Neither Syn nor Johnny were actually on this album. I think the bass on this album was Matt Wendt. The guitars are all Zacky. Syn recorded an additional lead guitar on the intro To End, The Rapture, on the remaster after the album was released.
You’re correct, Zacky is the man too, super underrated guitarist and musician.
A perfect wedding song♥️
The fact that all of them where 18-20 years old at the time gives me the feel of a teenager love. I mean that in a good way. Back when this was recorded i think syn and Johnny were not at the band yet. Everything played by zacky every vocal by Matt and the piano idk must be matt or jimmy.
The sounding the seventh trumpet era was Matt Jimmy Zacky and Justin Sane Syn joined shortly afterwards and Johnny joined in 2002
Ballad from the first album (2001)
They have a music vídeo for this song, vídeo from 2001 too.
She must react to warmness on the soul music video. And see all of avenged sevenfold member baby face..haha
I will check it out at some point. Thank you!
Love that you are so into A7X. They are my top favorite band.
React to Avenged Sevenfold "Turn The Other Way"
That was a beautiful song all the way through! :-)
This is A7X's most "chill" song and a beautiful ballad, which is ironic considering the album "Sounding The Seventh Trumpets" is the most aggressive release they've done.
I've gone all squishy, like a marsh mallow. A7X never stop surprising me with unconventional styles from a metal band. Not criticizing, but emphasizing, pointing out such versatility, and sounding fantastic. The first half of this song could have carried on to the end, just the piano, and still be complete. However, the build up with added instruments only gave more to the finished song. Well done A7X.
And you young lady, are looking truly fabulous today. Always eye catching, but today, something special.
I had on eyeliner & mascara when I recorded these 🤷♀️
Sometimes, I really enjoy listening to piano covers just to hear it by itself. Piano-centric A7X songs always captivate me.
I agree, wish the piano went on all the way. Would be amazing if Matt did vocals to a piano version. There are some great piano covers that I can recommend, listen it regulary. ruclips.net/video/a09o8xpOhBs/видео.html
Such a beautiful song. It is amazing how talented and skilled they are. I never wanted to get a tattoo but I might someday consider a "A7X for life, foREVer". They have given me such an amazing journey.
Matt is on the piano
Please react to pinkly smooth's necromance theater, its the revs old band that he sings and played piano and drums with syn on guitar.😎😎

M Shadows is on piano
Shattered by broken dreams by Avenged Sevenfold
I had this played for my wife at our wedding for one our dance songs back in 2006. We had 15 wonderful years together before I lost her last year. Hearing this brings back memories. I have shit luck.
I'm so sorry.
Try Dear God. Full version :)
Such a beautiful song, as you experienced when your husband wrote a song to you, I bet that it brings alot of added credits to the "good" account. 🙂 Since I found out a few years ago how much singing makes me feel good inside, I need to continue and one day maybe cover this song or sing to someone special.
Don't often hear a piano solo! :-)
You must know every studio version is only matt sing
Oooh ok
99% of the time yes
Not always
The self-titled and Nightmare are the only albums where anyone else regularly took other vocal parts.
That was true all the way through city of evil outside of Vals verse on this album, but other members started singing starting with self titled, before Matt would just layer all his vocals.
Matt is on piano
And that is zacky v on guitar, syn wasn’t in the band yet
eventually the lead solo was done vy Zecky......not Synister
Pls react to little piece of heaven breakdown they made new video in their channel and longer (remastered)
Pretty sure matt is on piano. I know he plays it in critical acclaim
u have that mic but it doesn't sound like u are using it
