  • On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Heather Nagy has been with NFLT for four years and currently serves as the Strategic Conservation Planning Coordinator. In this role, Heather conducts geographic information systems (GIS) analyses to determine high priority conservation areas within the NFLT region. She also works with NFLT’s conservation partners at the local and landscape level to assist them with identifying and achieving their conservation goals. Currently, Heather is leading the development of the South Atlantic Salt Marsh Initiative’s (SASMI) “Florida State Implementation Team,” which works to protect and restore salt marsh and marsh migration corridors along Florida’s Atlantic Coast, and we’ll be hearing more about SASMI in this presentation. Heather earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, her Master of Environmental Management degree from Duke University, and has received a graduate certificate in GIS.
Originally from south Florida, Joel Benn lived and worked in and around Lake Okeechobee prior to attending law school at the University of Florida. Upon graduation from the University of Florida he transitioned into the legal sector wherein he worked for a private insurance defense firm and eventually the St. Johns River Water Management District’s Office of General Counsel. Joel’s experience working with and on Florida’s landscapes, in addition to his time spent with the St. Johns River Water Management District, sharpened his focus toward playing a more active role in conservation acquisitions. Joel’s legal expertise is a huge asset to NFLT.
Thank you to our Working Lunch Wednesday sponsors Rick and Faith Hoffman for bringing us this insightful presentation!
