Thank you for this Nicole. Please give us another update to see how much better it looks with the proper care. I did the ice thing on an Orchid 🤦♀️🤦♀️. What a mess. I will only ever add ice to a drink, never a plant.
When I was a florist they use to have us water the plants for sale this way. Of course, we did not get to see what the end result was. The plants sold. I have over 200 houseplants and I am a big proponent of bottom watering and allowing any excess dripping to drain off. My jungle is thriving with this method. It takes more time and effort. Even Mother Nature needs a bit of courtship.
Interesting! Is it because they don't want the plants to get overwatered? I love bottom watering too! Cacti and succulents prefer this method more than the top watering.
I had brought an orchid from my local supermarket that was a Just Add Ice plant. I ignored the directions and watered it like it is supposed to be watered. I see those plants all over the place especially at the supermarket and local shops. I always tell people that buy them not to follow the directions but to look the plant up and get some information about the plant and I usually will tell them how to take care of the plant. I hate seeing plants in the trash. I don't know why these companies do stuff like this. It is horrible.
wow, this is so interesting!! thank you for testing out this method, I actually would have thought it would work better than it did. glad I know not to try now 😄
I have the money tree also. I only used ice to water too and now I’m noticing the leaves turning yellow/brown and falling off. I gave it some more water and put it near a different window with more light to see if that will help. Hopefully it will.
Nicole that plant has always been a problem with me!! I did buy and left it outside and it is growing because it's humid and hot. But when I bring it in God will have to help because I never had good luck with that plant but I love it!!! I didn't have luck with the zz plant but now they are growing all over my house 🏠🏠🏠. Plants are beautiful ❤️❤️ just need patience..
Although the money tree don't use much water adding ice wouldn't be enough water. We can see that the fallen leaves are crunchy and dry which is an indication that the plant is thirsty. Thanks for this video I always wondered if the ice method works
Ive never seen this brand, but it’s an interesting concept. Unfortunate it didn’t work out! Occasionally, I’ll add ice to various plants in my house, but never as the main method of getting water! It’s typically, I’m done with a cup of ice water and rather than waste the ice, I’ll put it on a plant. But it’s never enough water fit the plants, so it’s a supplemental method!
I’ve never seen plants like this but am glad you experimented. I probably would have put ice in all my tropical plants soil because it does sound easy lol
Also in tropical, when it rains the rain water is not cold. Once in a while, I'll come across some dry ice and I'll put next to my plants to give extra cabon dioxode, not good for us but good for plants.
Oh no your poor money tree! Have you checked for a wire under the soil level that is constricting the stems? Hopefully it recovers some before winter for you. My money tree stayed pretty small the first year, but its 4 ft tall now and huge.
Thank you for this video...I purchased a 5" money plant about 4 weeks ago. It did say to water with 4 ice cubes. I did not let it touch the trunk; however, just a few days ago I had to cut off a yellow leaf. I will be checking in with you periodically re my money plant.
Was given a Phalaenopsis last week. Instructions for ‘Watering and Fertilizer: Do not water if potting medium is still wet. Submerge entire pot in water for 5 minutes, or place 2 -3 ice cubes on top of potting medium when thoroughly dry. Fertilize with a balanced mix (e.g., Grow More 20-10-20) every other watering at 1/2 the normal dose.’. Think that submerging the plant in water for five minutes is going to give it a lot more water than two - three ice cubes. Hope people read instructions for recommended fertilizer as it is water soluble. Already repotted in Tanks Soil and will not be following these instructions!!
Thank you for sharing but I had a feeling that that ice was a bad idea I've had plants for years and years and I've never purchase a plant that said to put ice cubes in it ever
Amazing I never hear that I know that you can do that on orchids but not the tropical plants 🪴 thanks 🙏 for sharing your experiment watching from California
It’s too shocking for the roots, ppl don’t realize this. If it works for you, great.. I just don’t think it should be your number one only method. How will you feed the plant then? I feed a tiny bit every time I water… can’t with ice.

I sure will! We had a thunder storm last night so I took my money tree out for a nice drink and it is looking better already!

What a great video Nicole! Thank you for putting the time into this content.

More water for sure! Mine was so thirsty and looked so sad (she still is). Hopefully I can get her back to growing soon!

Tropical plants + ice cubes. What could possibly go wrong 😛?!?
Hahaha
“Tropical Plants and COLD ICE” how can that even go together make no sense. Slow death PROVEN. GREAT VIDEO!!!💚
Yes, I had an orchid marketed as "just add ice." But I was not a beginner or without basic botany knowledge. I did NOT use ice.
Thank you for doing this experiment! I always wondered what would happen and now I know!
🤣🤣🤣
I have three beautiful orchids which I water with three ice cubes every week. I had them for 6 years and they are doing fine.
This is a tropical plant . The weather is warm with rain . NO SNOW. I live in the tropics and would never add ice to any of my plants
Agree! Such a terrible watering method!!!

Hahaha it sure does! I’m kind of glad that I procrastinated because one month is not long enough to tell the truth!

I have not! I'm going to repot this plant soon and I sure will check!
Wow 4 ft! Good for you!
Well my friend’s grandmother throws an ice cube randomly in her pothos plant everyday… pothos looks like a full mature monstera in size

How did it go?
I see these ALOT so seeing you do a video on it is helpful
So... nutrient ice cubes and I can finally take a vacation.
Great experience share and learn from this 👍👍👍
I always heard about this method for orchids but glad to see that as I guessed, it is not a workable method.
Yea it is a bad idea. I wish the company could be more responsible for the direction they share with customers.
You can buy one. Just water it correctly.
I used to use ice cubes to water my succulents. It didn’t work either, I think it lead to root rot :(. Thanks for sharing.
It's like dumping a human into an ice bath. You may feel sick, you may feel okay, ....I wouldn't recommend it.

Wow not the grower knows better.Happy growing and stay safe.

I think this is a crazy idea too!!!! Thought I would do an experiment and see how bad it is
Never heard of this! Thank you for another great video.
Thanks for watching!

It sounds like a cash grab! They want them to die so you have to buy another 😬
Yes, I do and the money trees not good too.So sad
I never heard of putting ice in plants watering is best.
I think the water from the ice is to cold for the roots 🥶
My money tree died. I have no idea why but my other plants seem to be doing okay. My Christmas cactus is the only one I give ice to.
Hi👋 oh my god I've never heard of using ice for plants I would think that would kill a plant🤯😱wow no ice for my money Tree
Agree. I would be so mad if someone pour ice on me ...
Good morning 🌞🌞🌞🌄🌻🌄🌄🌻🌞🌄 hi watching from.cam.sur phil.i love watching your vlog because I love also plants... 😊 Keep safe always

Totally agree!
Who unironically waters their plants with ice?!XD
Das ist absoluter Quatsch 🤨 wie kann man so machen? Es ist Stress und Schock für Pflanzen. Was für Trend ist das, verstehe ich nicht. 🙈
It works I've been doing it for years. G'day from Mackay Queensland Australia
