    When I set the white balance, I first select Auto and aim the camera in the direction I will be recording. This way the sensor gets a pretty accurate meter reading of the light conditions. I then select manual and that locks the K value whilst I am filming and wont change.

      Thanks for sharing this tip. That is also an option for setting a static white balance.

    Do these settings still work well for ND filters?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Месяц назад +1

      Yes as long as you use an ND filter that balances your exposure with a shutter speed set to 1/200 or faster. The combination of 60fps with a shutter speed of 1/240 and an ND filter to balance that can be really visually appealing if you want more detail in your motion blur but still smooth. Even if you drop it onto a 24fps timeline and export it as such.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Месяц назад

      Any shutter speed slower than 1/200 and you’ll have jitter and ghosting in your footage.

    hello! loved this video I used your settings when I first used my dji action 4. just wanted to ask you on what platform did you edit this video and what is your render settings. my 1080p is miles away from your 1080p in terms of resolution mine when i uploaded it on youtube it became so pixelated.

    Hey I am looking forward to use this mount in a trip while riding a scooter. I was wondering if I will capture more of a cinematic effect by combining 1/50 FIXED shutter speed with 25 fps and FIXED 100 iso and stabilization OFF. Maybe having stabilization off will make it more immersive and using this shutter speed will make me look like I am going faster ? (YES there will be tunnels but I might just crop that part off the compilation)

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  5 месяцев назад +1

      The shutter speed will definitely make it look faster with lots of motion blur. If you wanted to keep stabilization on I’d recommend testing out 60fps combined with a shutter speed of 1/240 beforehand to see if you like that combo. Should still have plenty of motion blur while still giving you the benefit of stabilization.

      Yes, in general it will do just as well and in specific situations such as intense mountain biking the chest strap will likely do even better.

    The thing I’ve noticed with the DJI Action 4 is that it relies heavily on the shutter in order to stabilize the footage. If you’re using the 180 rule it can have a negative impact on stabilization. Iv’e added motion blur in post with DaVinci resolve and it’s quite good.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Год назад

      Yes, very much so. This is part of the reason I set the minimum shutter speed to 1/200 because if the shutter goes any slower than 1/200 with RockSteady on the ghosting and jitter can get bad. Adding motion blur in post is a great technique.

    • @canyonblue737-8
      @canyonblue737-8 11 месяцев назад +1

      all digital stabilization uses high shutter speeds to accomplish this so you'll see the same issue stabilizing footage with GoPro, Insta360 etc. in order to follow the 180 rule you must have mechanical stabilization such as that found on a drone or a gimbal with a camera (ie. DJI Pocket 3, Osmo for smartphones, or large gimbals for mirrorless cameras.)

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  11 месяцев назад

      Absolutely. EIS is okay until the shutter speed gets too slow, then it’s basically useless. Love mechanical stabilization.

    Hi, I bought OA4.
    I ride a quad bike, mainly on gravel roads - open areas with a lot of light and forests with a lot of trees.
    The camera position is at the chin of the helmet, it sees the route + handlebars, counter, etc. I'm looking for the best possible settings for myself, do you think yours will be good for me? Lots of analogies, only the speed at which I'm driving will be different, maybe you can give me some advice :)

    Will this also work for high speed mountain biking? I’ve noticed the strange jitter in another video at 4k30 @1/60 with rocksteady on. How would this compare with 4k60 @1/120 with rocksteady?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Год назад +1

      Yes, these settings should work. My recommendation for preventing jitter is to set the shutter speed range to 1/200 to 1/8000. RockSteady needs a certain shutter speed to work properly.

Immersive POV like your bike ride rather than vlog, although you are great at talking so a narrated POV would be the best! Your approach with this bike ride was perfect! For a high density location I'd love to see you tour Colonial Williamsburg! And in the same trip you can film a bike ride to Jamestown. :)

      @@GreatDayForAHike Yes, the metric system's Celsius scale is widely used for temperature measurement in most parts of the world outside of the United States, where Fahrenheit is more commonly used.
      Understanding the Fahrenheit scale can be challenging for some because its reference points, like water freezing at 32°F and boiling at 212°F, might seem less intuitive compared to the Celsius scale, where water freezes at 0°C and boils at 100°C. Much easier to understand.
