Once again this episode is very informative. You talk about techniques, constructions, types of yarn. That's what I like about your podcast. I'm definitely a process knitter. Even though I love the finished products and wear them. But the process of knitting is what I love and enjoy the most!

Love all your minutiae - thank you. Regarding drop shoulders, they flatter no one, fit terribly, and waste way too much precious yarn. Yarn companies must love them. I understand why they're in vogue these days, as designers seem to be forcing a 1980s esthetic on us, and knitters love having a flat shoulder seam rather than a set in sleeve. Personally, I don't need a seam across the widest part of my arm, and benefit greatly from the more tailored look of a set in sleeve. But back to you: you're an astonishing, thoughtful knitter, and having just discovered you, will be binge watching your videos accordingly.

Awww, thank you! I’m sure your sewing brain works just like my knitting brain, I can’t wait until my sewing skills catch up a bit. Spoiler - the Gingers fit great so now I want to make ALL of the jeans 🤣

I love this book! Or actually mine says quick reference, but it's set up the same way. I found it on clearance, too. It was a steal. I like the kitchner page and also the increase and decrease dictionary. I have hips that measure a full size larger than my bust and narrow shoulders, so I add extra increases and decreases that are not in the pattern.
I think I have to add the Fleuriste and the Recoleta to my queue ! I am totally enjoying nerding out about knitting with you, Mel! Sorry for spamming you everywhere with comments :D I can't resist hahah

Having wider sleeves than intended on a cardigan is actually a good thing. You can wear stuff underneath easier :) Once you wear a long sleeve shirt or dress under it, it will be fine and you'll be grateful for the extra ease.
The Vogue book is really great. It's sold out in english version but since my native language is russian, I bought the russian translation. The pictures and contents are the same and very helpful.
That mother-in-law-cardi is literally your eye color. Of course it works :D The bohus sweater is looking great too!
I stupidly got hand-dyed yarn because of all the podcasters using it and bitterly regretted it. I will never want to use superwash yarn in my garments (winding it up alone is a huge problem) and speckled/variegated yarn only looks good as long as it's in a skein. It usually looks really unattractive once knitted up.
Thanks Nadia! That is a great point about being able to wear a long sleeve underneath. Some of my older sweaters are definitely too tight in the arms and I find I don’t wear them because I really need to layer most of the winter.
I also feel you on the handdyed yarn thing… more and more I find that tonals and SOMETIMES speckled yarns are okay in a garment, but the ones with a ton of variegation are maybe just not so much my style. Totally a matter of opinion though 😊
I think your extra buttons actually look like a design feature, quite like it. You only noticed the sleeves if you stand there with your arms out, which we never do in real life 🤣

Have fun sewing your jeans... looking forward to hearing you talk about the experience and to see the finished jeans. You gave me an idea- I have an online class for jean making and now I am considering using my quarantine period when I return to Japan from a trip home to Canada this fall to finally make my jeans. It will be a great way to whittle away the hours and days I will be housebound :

Loving all your episodes!! Almost done binge watching the whole channel!! ...so I've just hear the part where you mention your cat meowing constantly... I had the same issue with my senior kitty and turns out she had a thyroid problem. Just thought I should mention in case this might help flag a health issue. Love to know if the kitty is ok. And can't wait 'til the next new episode!!
Kitty is definitely okay, thank you for your concern! He’s been vocal his entire life, so this day wasn’t out of character for him 😂
@@melmakesstuff my cat used to be vocal too. She was a siamese mix, who are known to be chatty. So it was quite hard to diagnose until it became incessant. After medicating her she got a lot better. Glad your kitty is ok! ❤️

I wish I wasn’t so uptight sometimes, LOL
In my experience a close armhold fitted properly gives better mobility then a wider armhole since it makes it less likely for the entire garment to jump up when you raise your arms. In saying that though for me anyway with my skinny arms all that extra fabric makes me look like a Turkey.

Totally agree! It's sort of counter-intuitive to think that a closer armhole is better for mobility but it really is. I actually changed the Bohus sleeves AGAIN after recording this video because that was bothering me :-)

I love the crochet seam tip.... But what I'm wondering after watching for a while is WHY not just design your own garments? Why fiddle with patterns when you have so much excellent experience???!!! Look at your stash, pick the yarn that's calling you and just start knitting into a design according to your mood.... Like them peoples did in them olden days.
I’ve definitely done it many times! I just find it more fun to use an existing pattern and “edit” it - designing isn’t where I want to spend my brain power most days when there are tons of patterns out there that I already like.
