That lavender BFL/Gotland yarn is GORGEOUS! I am planning a striped linen tee, and several patterns from hyggestrik/Lone Kjeldsen have caught my eye-Hør no 16, 14, and 5.
Amazing outfit Mel, the vest is spectacular. I also love the harvest wooly knit colour way, it will be a great half and half wrap. I had a couple hanks and knit sweater no 18.
I just discovered your channel and it's amazing! I started with this "reveal" episode, but this weekend I went back and have been binge watching from the beginning! I can't believe all the wonderful, juicy tips you give us and so much valuable, slow, attention-to-detail work that you do. Really big thanks. Your vest is incredible!
I've been patiently waiting to see this video pop up! First of all....I could never pull your outfit off. My age prohibits me from having that much gusto in what I'd wear, but boy oh boy is that ever awesome! I definitely have to check out a trip to Montreal. I'm in Providence, RI so I'm not sure of the distance but I'm not afraid of a road trip for a long weekend and that place just looks so cool. Great video. Great work. And great buys!
Incredibly lovely shares and footage of the festival, thank you! There’s a shot of a BRIGHT pink Misurina… umm wow. And I’m not even a pink person. I don’t think... I’m having a colour identity crisis right now. Lol. Wish I would’ve got to meet you and enjoy a meal at the fancy food court. Your yarn choices are soooo good!
(just watched the KCM half) so glad to hear there was lots of non-superwash there! i might make more of an effort to go next year (and drag some locals knitting friends along)--we could take the train for a nice day trip. some of us have similarly good overnights at the Adirondack Wool & Arts thing in Greenwich, NY. :-)
Wow that vest is just amazing. The pants too. As a Montrealer I laughed when you mentioned the ‘city’ vibe of the knitwear. It’s so true. Your outfit was perfect. I wish I would have made it to the festival to say hi in person. I’m a big fan. Looking forward to your next episodes!
I love your precision ad point of view. Thanks for sharing so much of your thought process. And thanks for making me feel like I get to go to all of these festivals with you and Megha and Selma! (Native Montrealer living in the States and sad to miss this one)
Your "cliffhanger" turned out amazing. In my early days, i could do something similar. Now, we are all so spoiled with patterns that our own creativity hibernates. Lovley festival pictures. Looking forward to see what you are going to make with your new yarn
I went to college in Western Mass and Montreal was the place to be for fall break! For your Line, I love the Old shale lace + stripe pattern in the Aalto Vest in the new Amirisu 26.
Your vest is AMAZING! My DH and I watched your previous episode and when you picked out the floral motif all we could see was a man with a beard ;). I love how you incorporated all of the little details that have made it such a beautiful unique garment that is so finished, fits so well, and is so polished. I did enjoy hearing about the modifications you made to the pants pattern to make them exactly as you wanted. Glad you had such a fantastic time at Knit City and was able to experience yarn dyers and their products that you haven't had exposure to yet.
The fit of your finished vest is so nice! I absolutely love Montreal. I am actually headed there for a birthday trip next week There is some very good fabric shopping in the garment district (Globetex is probably my favorite, a good place to find a bargain) and if you enjoy Middle Eastern food, I can not recommend Byblos Cafe enough (it's pretty close by Rix Rax)
I LOVE Red Hen bakery! It's such a cozy spot that my husband and I have been hoping to go back to. I know there's a yarn store up the road from there in Waterbury but I have yet to visit it. Someday soon though.
The vest turned out soooooooo well! I love it! Great yarn choices! Glad you had a good time in Montreal. I had so much FOMO as I languished on the other side of Canada. Maybe Knit Cit6 Vancouver will be my jam in the fall.
Your vest is really inspiring. I saw a lovely similar style in a 1930s pattern recently, but it was plain stockinette. Your stranded knitting with beads really elevates it.
Such a cliffhanger but so worth the wait. Love it. And GIRL every time you had a new idea to make this outfit even better in the last video, I was stressing so hard for you. Lol. You didn’t seem stressed at all though, good for you. Just making it happen.
thank you for posting this so quickly--the cliffhanger was killing me! :-)) the motif placement on the vest is super, as is the pants fabric--terrific outfit, so much skill in it! thx for showing us that knotted steek and the armhole finish too!
I really like the colors in ur project. I saw the Xiao card and have it planned down the road. Luv the yarn and colors u bought. U seem eclectic to me which I really like. I'm disabled and buying yarn online is very sketchy. I wish I could feel b4 I but. Oh well. I have ur poddie to give me info. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, Mel! Great work on your outfit. I’m so impressed with your ability to design a full color work vest, with a steek and a zipper. You hit about a thousand new techniques in my world. I can’t stop laughing about your description of the festival and what the other festivals are like. You hit the nail on the head😂🤣😂 Thank you for sharing 🧶
Your content is thoughtful and so informative. Thank you for sharing your knitting mojo with us and inspiring me to innovate on my projects. Loved your outfit 😊
omg!!! such a great vudei! i looved seeing you guys together. loooved seeing 'part 2'. thanks so much for your video. so i only do summer knitting as i live in a tropical climate. i wonder if your version of steeking would work with plant fibers. that would be super cool if it did. also super helpful and impressive finishing on your vest. i loved the crochet cord idea and will use it and the kititng a few rounds and sewing, all great.
I haven't been watching you for long but you generally seem like a rather reserved person - seeing you suddenly light up at all the yarns you got to take home made me so happy 🤭 The ensemble you made is gorgeous, your attention to detail is impressive!
Wow, just wow! The pants are totally not my style, but still amazing how they coordinate with the amazing vest you created! I’m so impressed with your skills, and creativity! And how you combined skills from different crafts, and print resources, RUclips resources, etc. And what a good understanding you have of your own body and how that affects your making. Kudos to you!
Thank you so much for sharing your amazing work so freely with all of us, Melissa. I love having a window on your creative process and incredible skill. I really appreciate what you do!
I love the quality of the finishing of your garments ! The yarn swap you did is such a great idea to create a different perspective of your stash! Too bad I missed you at KCM...
Stunning workmanship. The whole outfit is beautifully finished. Feeling excited about the coming projects. The colours you've shown here all suit you. It's obvious you had fun at the festival. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Hi Mel! Thank you for sharing your Knitcity MTL outfit. You have revolutionized steeking for me. I'm planning a new sweater with this technique in mind 🧶
I love the vest. I really like the idea of knitting a few rows around the arm hole and then stitching it down. How many rows did you knit to be enough to roll nicely!
Amazing creation Mel as always. Such confidence in alterations and a great understanding of what suits your body type shows in your final pieces. Inspiring! I was wondering how the “Hypnosis” sweater is going? I would really love to knit this but think the language issue would mean I’d have issues. Look forward to your next video!
The finished outfit did not disappoint, bravo! Can wait to see your next projects. They are way above my league, which is good for inspiration and seeing all the possibilities.
Mel. You do such beautiful knitting and sewing and doing your podcasts. I follow all of them. I do have a question if you do questions. I notice you steek for armholes and I’ve tried to find a demo that I can understand. Can you please either do a video about that or give me a suggestion where to find a good demo. Thanks for sharing your skills and talents.
Thank you so much! I’m considering developing a steek class where I would show how to do the armholes, but in the meantime I’d suggest you look for a recently-written set-in sleeve colorwork pattern that incorporates sleeve steeks (Vair by Gudrun Johnston comes to mind) and take a look at how it’s written. You basically want to insert the steek on the next round after binding off for the underarm, and then you do your armhole shaping next to the steek on subsequent rounds.
Thank you for sharing your finishing technique of picking up stitches, knitting a little bit in stockinette, and folding it over! I guess I never realized that the edge could be so narrow. I’ve been thinking about making a mostly-stockinette cardigan with i-cord edging along the fronts and neckline, but I wasn’t sure if that would be enough to keep the stockinette from curling. Do you think your technique would do a better job at that, and also give better structure?
My instinct says that it would depend on your gauge, like it might work a bit better at a tighter gauge? But I would suggest you test it out on the side of your swatch, that should give you a good idea of whether it might work. Good luck!
Hi Mel, I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated watching and learning from your outfit creation, your adventurous craftiness is very inspiring and impresses me. I have a question, well two questions. I have seen a lot of steeking but have never attempted it myself, not out of fear but I just haven’t had a pattern to use it in, my question is one of curiosity, why, in this particular instance did you choose to steek rather than knit the fair isle flat? I ask this because in my very very limited experience in knitting colour work flat, i.e., a couple of small swatches, I quite like it, but I hear others don't like it and prefer to steek. Is this why you steeked or are there other benefits I’m not understanding? My other question is would you consider doing a tutorial on the irish crochet lace cord? I found that technique you employed fascinating and love the results it produced on the edges of the vest. Congratulations on producing such an original and beautiful knit. Cheers, Tara
Thanks Tara! I have knitted colorwork flat, and I don’t really mind it, but I just find that I enjoy the process more when I can knit in the round. I also like the magic of steeking at the end ☺️
Bit of a personal question, but when you wear pure wool so close to your skin like with your vest, what type of deodorant do you wear? I always worry about getting it on wool and not being able to get it back out.
That vest is… wow. Chef’s kiss.
Beautiful work!. Thanks for sharing and inspiring us!!!
Beautiful. Love your outfit…..and yarn purchases
Love that Lavender yarn, will look great with those rocking pants!!
I love Ancient Arts yarns!
Your idea ended up beautiful

That navy is your color! Arctic light is on my wish list, too. I'm saving for some round 3 ply tunis local yarn.

Right?! That Misurina was just as incredible in person too! Such a bummer that we didn’t get to meet up - hopefully at some other festival soon ❤️
Beautiful outfit you made ❤
Your outfit is wonderful. ❤
I love the whole outfit! Totally suits you.
Thanks sis ❤️❤️❤️

Thanks Selma ❤️

Ooo interesting - I might test this steek out on a linen or cotton swatch and see what happens! That idea has a ton of potential, thank you!

Hi Mel! Thank you for sharing your Knitcity MTL outfit.
You have revolutionized steeking for me. I'm planning a new sweater with this technique in mind 🧶
This steek technique certainly takes a bit longer, but I feel like it’s worth it!
Beautiful work, great attention to detail 🤩
Beautiful vest! Thank you for sharing the making process.
Very inspiring !! Thank you for walking us through your process. So interesting
Your festival outfit is stunning!
So impressed with your finishing techniques. My knitting goals this year are to perfect the finishing in my projects.
My goal is just to finish my projects 😅😂
Well done Mel! Your outfit looks amazing. Really enjoyed your process. Thank you
Stunning...as always
I love the vest. I really like the idea of knitting a few rows around the arm hole and then stitching it down. How many rows did you knit to be enough to roll nicely!
I think I did four rows or so - not too many!
I’m trying to get a bunch of random cast ons out of the way so I can get back to the Hypnosis - hopefully soon!
@@melmakesstuffthanks for your suggestion and explanation. I look forward to seeing anything you can demo for us. Thanks again.
Punta Arenas is a place in far southern Chile. Just FYI

Beautiful outfit! Did you do anything on the sides of the vest to cover the increases?
I didn’t! After I was done, I found that the “side seam” wasn’t bothering me quite as much.
The tolsta tee might work for your Line.
I second this idea!
Hi Mel,
I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated watching and learning from your outfit creation, your adventurous craftiness is very inspiring and impresses me.
No worries - I usually wear one of the clear stick kinds, never had any issue with it marking up the wool
