The designer is very interesting, the dimples are a aero dynamics design, and the sand blasting, aka is called shark skin, the purpose is create dead airspace and decrease turbulence.
The dimples are kind of hokey. Corran had similar dimples on the old Riot boats (I can’t remember which one was but it was 1999-2003, it might have been the Disco. The Doninatrix had something similar.) In theory they would help the water release more easily but that likely only matters at planing speed. The dimples in the hull also caused stress risers. The dimples in n the top likely do nothing.
I agree the entire hull was not a good idea but I think on the dimples on the tail hull spot breaks the water tension slightly coming off the back of the stern
Wade, I am currently paddling a Liquid Logic Stomper 90 and have been wondering if this could be a great replacement as a “do all” kind of boat for most of the rivers here in the Southeast. Thanks in advance!
I like what I'm seeing. Those dimples actually have some science behind them. I've been wondering for years why white water MFG's haven't incorporated the concept. I like it. Going to have to give that boat a good look. Are they here in the USA/West coat yet?
@@Cary_Glenn I mean, I have an old sledgehammer(updated higher volume version of the hammer) and it’s an ok boat all things considered. As an engineer, the dimples TECHNICALLY work on paper, but it’s so hard to actually test that on a boat practically. But I’m definitely interested in the improvements made on the hammer because the old videos of them with the riot team show them doing some pretty wild stuff in the original ones
Hey Wade, bit of an unrelated question but I wanted to ask you about whether you'd recommend the Lettmann paddle for small shallow rivers in the UK and Ireland. I recently broke my powerhouse on a shallow run, so I'm trying to figure out should I get another powerhouse, or take the hit and get the Lettmann?
I think the lettman paddles are one of the best paddles ever made but would suggest get a solid paddle and not a 2 piece if running low volume mank rivers I never had issues out my 2 piece but have seen a few now break and all have been right there also since your in Europe take a serious look at the select paddles out of I think France wow I was impressed with those I feel they are better choice then Werner
Seems the outfitting has came along and I give everyone benefit you have to start somewhere and the first version of this was less then desirable but now seems to be a big improvement from that the last couple boats I paddled glide and now the hammer worked just fine for me
How come you didn’t like it? Just curious as my first boat was a hammer and I’ve paddled a few others both newer and older and it’s not that bad, definitely dated but still works pretty well imo so simply wondering!
Nice! Was hoping for that humongous surf...I rang the bell there once doing that....lol
Hahah I actually did a lap before in another boat took little bit to get out
Training wheels on a kayak! Now I have seen it all. Hammer Down!
Hahha definitely something different and it works
Awesome ideas from that Addison fella... great review Wade! I'll look up the weight range....
Yeah dude seems to always come with something different the wheel definitely caught me off guard never would’ve thought see it in a whitewater kayak
The aesthetic of that bow from a go pro helmet angle is not appealing to say the least but that detachable wheel stole the whole show 😂
It’s a flat shape up there but does seem to work and the wheel is definitely something different
Hey Wade!
Nice review!! What are your thoughts on the Hammer vs. the Scorch?
Thanks for getting the Hammer on the h2o!!!
Oh, I'm in a Medium Scorch...
I know the Hammer is one size.
👍
Very different the hammer is more of a very short sporty river running creeker and the scorch is more full on river running creeker

Thanks Wade appreciate the input!
Hammer looks super fun!
Perhaps a more burly old school Disco?
Less play than the Disco and more "burl"... but a "do all", as you stated in your review!
My first kayak was a Riot Hammer. Maybe 20-25 years ago. It had the same dimples. I wonder if the designers are related
Same designer
Yup
Yeah it’s a classic
The designer is very interesting, the dimples are a aero dynamics design, and the sand blasting, aka is called shark skin, the purpose is create dead airspace and decrease turbulence.
Yeah the designer is definitely very interesting fellow and I feel the dimples on the hull tip’s actually do something
This boat looks wheelie good ;)
Haha I see what you did there

I highly recommend giving this one a try if you get a chance it’s very well rounded for about everything except maybe the super burly runs
Excellent! Thank you, sir!

Corran did try in in the early 2000s. They didn’t work very well, if at all. Also, they caused stress risers in the hull.
These seem to be placed in better spots on the hull then previous versions
For sure worth a demo I liked this boat

I use lettmann in the UK
@@darrenclarkson9765 How do you find its durability?
get a shogun

@@WadeHarrison cool, thank you for the reply. I’ll check select out!
So do you get down faster with the wheel on? And I bet you can get some nice rock boofs with it to
hahah its just for walking to and from the river it's just pressure fitted in so don't think it would stay in while paddling.
What river is that?
The upper ocoee
Looks a lot less trippy than the Antix 2.0?
Yes it’s very stable but in fairness the Antix 2 is more in line with the firecrackers and hot whip this is something very different.
It’s like the riot and the savage had a baby
YUP!
Only Corran could get away with a damn wheel in the bottom of the boat
For sure!
at least this edition outfiting doesnt suck because coran shell have allways been fire since riot

OMG....Corran resurrected the Hammer, wasn't a fan of that boat.
This one is definitely different from the OG one
