@@Simnettnutrition omg you too! My parents actually met at work. Across the street from their job was a slaughter house and they were haunted by it so they both went veg before they even started dating. I remember when I was excited that a store would have only one veg option!
I appreciate the fact that you left in the blooper at 5:30 😂 keeping it real. Thanks for injecting my day with some positivity and good eats as always Derek 🤙
It’s actually 5:31 AND I thought (think) the same thing Ben. I’m not critical, but I have a production background and thought “I wonder if he knows that’s in there?”. It IS perfect though!😜 Love Derek and what he’s doing for all of us. Awesome video as always!!! 🤘🏻💯🤘🏻
Yes, I learned about removing the skins of the garbanzos last year. If you put a strainer into a larger bowl, with the strained garbanzos, add water and “massage” the beans - all skin comes off and floats to the top. Turn the strainer to the side a bit and all the skins will gather in that one side making it easier to remove. Just another method I learned.
read this comment thru. got so confused. told self... slow down, picture doing it as u read. Now i understand EXACTLY what you mean, & im gonna try this quicker method of yours before i try the boiling one. THANKYOU!
Just made this recipe but I doubled it and added somewhere between a half to a cup of hot banana pepper rings and a little of the juice before blending...amazing!!! Thank you so much for your recipes! You've made it so much easier for me to go oil-free vegan! Keep them coming!
I’ve only been vegan since September! I want to be so much healthier! Knowing I did keto for years! I’m enjoying oatmeal again fruit smoothie!! Tofu rap! With hot sauce!
I made the classic again this morning. I put in a little too much liquid, so looks like it'll be a bowl with hummus dressing tonight. That's a win-win.
I tried this and found that when trying the chase the hulls with a spoon, they ran from the spoon. Just as I was about to give up, I tried a strainer. They ran TO the strainer. Although I'm sure I didn't get all of them, as I had really over cooked the chickpeas, I continued to follow your recipe, with one exception. I used white pepper instead of black. This is the best Hummus I've ever tasted! Such a BIG difference! I'll be adding this extra, rather time consuming, step from now on. Thank you!
Made this today, it came out creamy, smooth and delicious! Tried the double cooking with baking soda, it worked! Made a few substitutions with what I had on hand. I didn't have a lemon, so used an entire lime instead. Also, smoked paprika instead of regular, garlic powder instead of fresh, black cumin instead of pepper and ground black sesame seeds instead of tahini. Omitted the salt for SOS free version. Added some fresh dill. Was delicious on toast with some avocado and arugula!😘
My fave hummus is pumpkin hummus i do a savory one with garlic and spices and another with a splash of maple syrup and pumpkin pie spice so technically just a dessert dip but really good!
My homemade hummus is always chunky and I always thought it would take a long time to remove the shells from the chickpeas. Never thought of cooking them, what a great trick. I'm definitely gonna try these recipes, yum! 😋
I just made the standard hummus (roasted red peppers is my favourite but didn't have peppers!) but even with out the red pepper... SO GOOD!!! Thank you so much for this video and I cannot wait to make this for now on!
I usually cook soaked garbanzos in the Instant Pot for 20 minutes...it's not a huge burden and the results are great. If I need to use canned garbanzos I cook them more to make them more "digestable", as well as smooth. Also, I do like smooth hummus but I also like the idea of keeping the skins because of the fiber content. Thanks for all the great ideas! Always nice to get new ideas for making one of my staple foods!
I thank you Derek for this wonderful gift you shared on hummus! I usually buy it ! Put it in a rap with hot sauce! Love it! I look forward to all your videos!!
Love hummus! Looks great. I always hame a homemade hummus in the fridge for my kid’s quick snacks etc. To make them more filling. In addition to those we make carrot hummus and herby pea hummus which heavenly.
Thanks for such a great video, I love the variety of different hummus that you made! I do hope to make the red pepper and the basic one. I will have to contemplate the beet one. I am not too crazy for beets, Lol!! I know that they are good for me though!
I finally got a chance to try this method/recipe and I have to say, it's now my go to hummus recipe. I've tried so many homemade hummus recipes. Some of them were creamier than this recipe, some of them were easier to make than this recipe, but this is by far the best recipe for a trade off between creaminess/health and minimal oil. The creamier hummus recipes have a lot of tahini, or a lot more steps. The easier ones to make are too chunky. This recipe is perfect. My wife and I go through at least a club size (900g) size of hummus each week, which costs $9.99. This will now make it less than $5 for the same amount and 1/4 of the oil. I'm fully torqued.
Can’t tell you how much I appreciate this video, well all your videos! Always my inspiration to get back on track and cut out the processed junk I’m forever eating!!! Thank you so much for this 😁😁 I love silky smooth hummus
I wonder if you could season and bake or airfry the chickpea skins and use as a crunchy topping for salads and such. Just a thought. I just blend everything in my vitamix and it still comes out pretty dang smooth.
Oh, my goodness! My first time making home made hummus and it tastes amazing! It knocks the spots off the supermarket stuff. I suspect it’s not as calorific, due to the lack of oil, and I sure need fewer calories in my life…Thanks for sharing. Cheers from England xxx
Holy cow, man. I can’t believe how delicious this came out! I hate you for telling us about this boiling trick. I can’t go back now and have to do it every time.
Probably sounds insane but I manually shuck my chick peas. It takes about 25 minutes per can but I just put on a YT video and get shucking! I find it relaxing actually. I eat hummus every day of my life and having a super smooth consistency is uber important to me. I have heard of the baking soda method but I worry that some skins won't come off and they gross me out. I must try your beet variety! Looks delicious!
I have been removing the shells for quite some time. But I have been shelling them by hand..one by one, lol!! Thank you for sharing this much quicker idea! Have been watching your for a few years now and love your show! Keep up the good work!!! 🌞✌
Thank you, Derek, this is the best hummus recipe I have tried to date. It will be my favorite from here on out! I made the Original and the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus.
Thank you so very much. I absolutely love your recipes and I have been searching for just the right ones I believe you did it. I love how colorful they are and of course how smooth they are. You are the best. Thank you so very much Derek. I look forward to making this and taking photos to post on Instagram. The only thing that I am missing is some lemon which I hope to get soon. ❤❤❤
Thanks, awesome ideas especially with the baking soda too remove the chickpea skins. I've boiled canned chickpeas with some frozen edamame beans too, it turns out pretty good. Take care!
If I don't need it in something, I tend to leave it out. But will add it on occasion and more often if cooking for guests. Glad you enjoyed the vid, thanks for the comment.
Thanks for these lovely ideas for several healthy hummus. They, re also useful in order to finish some vegetables forgotten in the fridge. Bravo, Simnett!!

My friends four star restaurant use to have a roasted carrot hummus. He roasted carrots and used them instead of tahini paste. It was to die for try it and see if you can make a delicious one too.
Thanks for that tip, never thought to do that. Yes a bit tedious, but so nice and creamy in the end. I doubled the recipe and split in half so I could make both garlicky original and a roasted bell pepper one. Thanks for an oil free recipe too. 😋
So…… OMG 😳 I have just made the beetroot one and yes the chickpea thing is a phaff BUT… it was sooooo worth it, you were right. FINALLY, restaurant quality humus. Also, the aquafaba replacement for oil ❤️Mr Simnett your a genius x
Thanks, Derek! That was awesome :D I'm definitely going to have to try the roasted red pepper hummus. My favorite kind to make it roasted garlic hummus. Those are some cool tips regarding cooking the beans, again, and removing the skins. I'm going to experiment, a bit, and see if that makes a difference for my hummus, too. Blessings!
love your videos! just want to mention, that it's so easy to cook the chickpeas in the instant pot (und you will have the auquafaba too) and you can save some resources for can production, transport and recycling
Definitely boiled the chickpeas for too long, so it was really mushy but oh man, it's super tasty and smooth, and wholesome. Yum! Thank you for the recipe!

Do you also recook them even when they came from a can?

Thanks for the piece of advice

I also love it with dates, tomato paste (or dried tomatos) and basil. The sweet flavour is really nice!
Ooooo, sundried tomatoes 😮😮😮😮😮
Thanks for the demo. Long time viewer, first time commentor. I veered off the Vegan path a bit but I'm getting back on.
Hey thanks for commenting and way to go finding your way back! :D Onward and upward!
You can do it, Edward Lopez!
My Middle Eastern friends will suggest for the smoothest, lightest hummus use ice cubes instead of aqua faba. Love your vids as always.
What about frozen aqua faba? Best of both worlds?
