  • The Ruger 10/22 is certainly one of the most highly customizable firearms platforms out there. Between the long history of availability, coupled with strong aftermarket support, I knew this would be a fun rifle to own. In this video we look at the Magpul Hunter X-22 stock as I get it installed onto my firearm for the first time. This video covers my impressions as well as the steps along the way and gets me started on a larger project...more videos to come!

    I have seen some videos about the torque on that bolt, they say the torque may affect the accuracy, you want to loosen tor tighten it a bit on your gun to get the best result. I don't know for sure, I just hand tight it , maybe a bit more than hand tight, but definitely don't go crazy on it.

    Great video OL2! Did you end up adjusting the barrel shim or removing it completely.

      I think I pushed it all the way down but honestly I forget...

    Originally the firearm was fitted to the stock with a flat screw you could use a penny to unscrew it with. They swapped to an allen key I don't know when then the debate on how much torque to use became a debate. The take down has two issues with this. In standard Carbines there is the aforementioned bolt into your receiver and the stock band, that's it. Many videos have said ditch the band and free float the barrel. You have TWO screws holding the receiver and one holding the barrel to the front stock. You'll notice the Magpul stock doesn't have a front band but uses that little plate under the barrel. And they'll tell you to or not to use that. In the lovely world of all these variables and the fact that no two rifles are exactly alike YOU have to play with your tolerances and features to see which one works best for your setup and equipment. That takes range time with each variable while eliminating ammo and the shooter (you) from the variables.I would mount the receiver at 14 and the front bolt the same, shoot it some and then do 5 or 10 shots on a target, see how it works. Then change something and see if it got better or worse. then you get to check the interactions of your variables. What if your receiver and your barrel like a Non free floated front end at 20 pounds and a receiver torqued to 11? I don't know but if that's what the gun likes use it. Each and every gun you own can be like that, so, keep notes.
    I really think the fact that they produced it for years with the penny to be a tool for assembly leads to lower torque settings. If they wanted 20 pounds of torque, wouldn't they have used a quarter?

      Yeah, definitely 20 in-lbs seems crazy tight to me. I have been going to like 12-15 and that just feels about right to me. I figure at this point zeroing in the scope will just account for however this is shooting but we'll see how that all shakes out over time.

    Can't go wrong with those Magpul stocks.
    What are you going to do with the original stock?

      @OuterLimitless2  2 года назад +2

      Not sure yet... as it's considerably lighter than the magpul setup I'm probably going to keep it and possibly swap bodies depending on what I'm doing. Although knowing how I operate I'll probably get another fire control unit and barrel and build another

      @@spektr540hemi Worked for me. Brownells sells the receivers, bolts and that awesome BX trigger by Ruger. I purchased a Backpacker stock and it never came so I said screw it and purchased the Hunter instead. I of course forgot to cancel the Backpacker and it showed up the next week. So I again have the stock stock and two rifles. Watch out, its a chicken and egg scenario. Pretty soon you won't know which came first but your SURE you just need one more time and Blammo, 3 rifles and a couple major parts that'd be a shame to waste.

      @@williamcrane8236 Indeed, that is how it goes so often.
      Over the years I have actually lost count of how many 10/22 builds I have done. SO much fun !
