Man, you really need to dig deep into Kenny Loggins because he is a musical treasure. And when you listen carefully to his songs you will hear Michael McDonald back him up because they used to play together.
Yes, Duets with Stevie Nicks Whenever I Call You Friend and Don't Fight It With Steve Perry.
@@casey4602 the songs are so awesome. There's so much to choose from with Kenny Loggins and Kenny Loggins collabs.
" Michael McDonald back him up because they used to play together" Interesting, I didn't know that!
I love the story behind this song. Loggins and co-writer Michael McDonald were trying to come up with a love ballad, but they weren't coming up with anything. During this time, Loggins' father was battling a serious illness and was feeling defeated and wanted to give up the fight. Loggins wrote this song for his dad.
A
Another Backing vocal job for Michael McDonald. That guy was on everyone's records!
Who wouldn’t have wanted McDonald on a record with them at this time!
Yup...made an instant success out of some as well.
He wrote this song as his dad was hospitalized with severe illness. He was in duo group Loggins and Messina. He wrote a song for Footloose.
I thought he actually wrote Footloose?
@@craigedwards2940 He wrote a couple songs for "Footloose," the title song and another one called "I'm Free."
Dude is STOOPID talented
Kenny & Michael are among the gods of Rock n' Roll!!!! They are great friends in life......They always are jammin together.....Excellent Legendary artist!!!!
Asia & BJ, You'll love his "I'm Alright" and "Whenever I Call You 'Friend'" (with Stevie Nicks) !!!
Both great songs. I'm Free (Heaven Helps The Man) and Meet Me Halfway are 2 more.
@@descendantoffools9767 and Forever
Why not Danny's Song?
Kenny also co-wrote the Doobie Brothers hit “What A Fool Believes” with Michael McDonald. There is a really good live version from a special that Kenny did, Outside: From The Redwoods… Michael is a guest and they change the song up a little bit… really nice.
Kenny Loggins was the king of movie sound track songs in the 80's.
Two of the most distinctive voices in music - Kenny and Michael McDonald. And a fabulous song written as an inspiration to his father to keep fighting through his illness. Please do more Kenny SOON. Footloose, Danger Zone, Heaven Help the Man, Nobody's Fool, I'm Alright, Keep Fighting (duet with Steve Perry), Whenever I Call You Friend (duet with Stevie Nicks), Heart to Heart are ALL amazing and worth a listen. Cheers from Canada!
"Don't Fight It" is the song with Steve Perry. ANOTHER song that the "Classic Hits Of The 70’s & 80's" type stations totally forgot about! There is so much great forgotten music that radio ignores. It's just lazy to play the same Elton John, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac and Journey songs ALL day, EVERY day!
Another great forgotten song is STEVE PERRY:
"Strung Out" that had radio play originally.
Michael McDonald sang background and co-produced this song and a couple of Kenny’s other songs.
His back was facing the microphone?
Christopher Cross and Michael McDonald were the backround singers on this track. It also won the Grammy for best single.
Didn't know that Cross was there also.
@@machutson5493 He wasn't. Just Michael McDonld.
Michael McDonald is there, but not Christopher Cross.
The world fell in love with Kenny back in '71 with Danny's song... he was popular before, but that song & Anne Murray's cover exploded.
You paused to talk about Kenny's voice at the very moment I realized I'd forgotten, too! When he digs in for that emotion, he digs DEEP! DAMN, what a voice!
You'll hear Michael's part singing " You think that maybe it's over, Only if you want it to be".
Encourage his Father to fight for his life ..Kenny was so solid in the 70 and 80s. Music has no color you either have talent or you don't
He wrote this song as a rallying cry for his father who ill in the hospital.
Yes I remember, his dad was putting off life saving surgery
You know you're a great singer when Micheal McDonald is a backup singer in one of your songs!!
I agree with you BJ…all the Kenny Loggins songs you hear now on the radio is Footloose and Danger Zone it seems. You forget that he had this kind of soulful voice 😅😅😅
Wanna hear something truly beautiful? His duet with Stevie Nicks, "Whenever I Call You Friend" will do the trick. The intro alone will send you to another place.💙☮💙
I remember when this song was a hit. Michael McDonald’s participation was not largely promoted. We heard it on the radio and went, “Wait a minute. That sounds like Michael McDonald”. They were part of a great Southern California musical community that included Carly Simon and Christopher Cross.
One of Kenny Loggins best songs ever. Kenny and Michael McDonald. WOW!
I believe that Kenny wrote this song for his dad when he was diagnosed with cancer.
That is correct
It wasn't cancer. "... his ailing father, who had undergone a series of surgeries for vascular problems stemming from small strokes and was discouraged at the prospect of another. "
You guys need to listen to Kenny Loggins song Celebrate Me Home. Please listen to that one. He has so many others.
I love it when he hits the grit in his voice, then he makes that little break, sublime.
Kenny Loggins is a great artist,so much soul in his performance. He co-wrote this song with another blue -eyed soul artist Michael McDonald!
This song is SOOOO damn smooth; dude sounds almost like Michael Jackson at the beginning of this song. Just pure fire; one of my favorite songs of all time.
This is my fave by him, but "Heart to Heart" is another great one (studio version best for his full flava!). There is a great version of This is It, however, live in concert with McDonald, not too many years ago, if you want to see them both. Also, a slow but powerful ballad is Danny's Song from his Loggins & Messina days (also recorded version best).
I'm with you !! Don't know why these reactors are sleeping on "Heart to Heart" ! Kenny Loggins ! Michael McDonald ! and the great David Sanborn on alto sax !! Classic !! They're also sleeping on his duet "Love will follow" with Shanice !!!
@@robertholmes6906 Agreed 100%!! Asia & BJ, you have to listen and react to “Heart to Heart” Kenny Loggins voice is Incredible - along with Michael McDonald back up vocals!
Indeed!!!
Ballads _are_ slow 😄 and I don't know why more people haven't done Danny's Song!
This song helped me fall in love with college basketball. It was THE SONG BEFORE “One Shining Moment” and what it reps now. Magic Johnson Larry Bird NCAA Final was 1979 the year this came out
In 1979 Los Angeles, when I was in the 5th grade, this song was played on the same radio station that played Michael Jackson songs from Off The Wall, Prince's I Wanna Be Your Lover, Rapper's Delight by Sugarhill Gang... in other words, these two white guys were in heavy rotation on the "urban" station.
2 "blue eyed soul" brothers y'all 🤣👍 they're legends. love you two 💞
Definitely Michael McDonald. He did harmonies and vocal work for many of the greats! There's a song he did with Joni Mitchell - "Good Friends", as well of course a number of Steely Dan songs - " Peg", "Don't Take Me Alive", "Dr. Wu" and many more with them and so many other artists. I was always a fan of his harmonies and how his vocal tone would blend in with others so richly.
You should listen to Don't Fight It written and performed by Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry. You can't beat it! Great song, great vocals!
Kenny and Michael McDonald were writing this struggling with the lyrics when Kenny took a break to visit his dad who was having health issues. His father was feeling down. That's when Kenny made the decision that this wouldn't be a love song, but a life song. It's a song to his dad to be positive and pull through.
You two are so sweet in all the right ways! Hope you take a listen to Loggins and Messina, their Full Sail album is amazing. Hoping you take a listen to 'A Love Song', You Need a Man', Pathway to Glory', 'Coming to You' all great and worth taking a listen. Thanks Asia and B.J., see you soon!
Yes! “Pathway to Glory” is such a great song!!!!
There is a concert performance with Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald singing, “What A Fool Believes” who wrote the song, but the Doobie Brothers made it a hit; check it out. The video is titled, Outside: From the Redwoods; dedicated to Kenny’ brother who passed.
This was the theme song for the NCAA basketball tournament for many years when it was on NBC.
This song will never get old!
Go check out his early stuff when he was in Loggins n Messina. They made one of the best roller skating songs. Its called Pathway to Glory. If u skate ur gonna be surprised its Kenny. Also thats Michael McDonald on background.
Y'all gotta recognize Michael McDonald with the background vocals...Asia did! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I wish at some time you would react to his song "Pooh Corner". It is such an adorable song...I always sing it to my great-grandson Alex and he loves it.
After listening to this I completely forgot how sultry voiced Kenny Loggins used to sound back in the 70's. I was getting some George Michael vibes in the beginning of this song. Great reaction Asia & BJ! Can you guys react to his later music like "Meet Me Halfway"...
BJ… you gotta get into some Michael McDonald. THE greatest vocalist ever… (you asked before if we were related… I’m the little sister he never knew he had..❤️😁
Those of us who grew up on this music were really lucky! There were so many great singers and artists that came from the 70s and 80s. I have 2 daughters that are 30 and 19 and they both love this music. My 30 yr old told me she wished she would have lived in these eras. Just great great music by great great artists!!
Gotta love him and his music!! Soulful lil dude!!❤❤❤
Kenny Loggins was a lover of soul music and if you go into his albums, his forays into R&B were always so fantastic. This was one of his bigger hits, but later songs such as Love Will Follow (especially in a live version featuring Shanice…), Too Early for the Sun, Sweet Reunion, Now That I Know Love (a song written for The Winans), and Rest of your Life (written with the amazing Jonathan Butler…) show off that soulful side, and that he could’ve ridden an R&B wave had those been promoted like his pop songs. Hope you check some of these out in the future.
Thank you so much for playing this song. Kenny Loggins is the sound of my youth starting with Loggins and Messina. His solo songs were in the soundtracks of so many movies like “Footloose” and “Top Gun”.
One of the most talented artists of all time. You will love reacting to Celebrate Me Home, Danny’s Song,I Believe In Love,And Conviction of Yhe Heart, just to start!👍🏻❤️☮️🎤
You have to check out his duet with Steve Perry - Don’t fight it.
Also, the live version of “ I’m alright” from 1982 in Santa Barbara. It’s outstanding.
Michael McDonald sang these parts: "You think/say that maybe it's over. Not if you don't want it to be" then later during the cut where it changes tempo "No one can tell you what you know. - Who makes the choice of how it goes? - You know?" plus backing chorus vocals. You need to check out Celebrate Me Home, Whenever I Call You Friend (duet with Stevie Nicks), I'm Alright (theme song from Caddyshack), Heart to Heart, Danger Zone (theme song for Top Gun), The Rest of Your Life plus Your Momma Don't Dance and roll when he was a duet group with Jim Messina.
Kenny Loggins Heart to Heart a must
And Michael McDonald on backup!! great reaction :)
Kenny Loggins also did a duet with with another great voice, Steve Perry of
Journey. The song is called "Don't fight it". Great duet by them.
Blue eye soul
Hear Michael McDonald in background.
. Love Kenny and i got to attend one of his concerts in late 70s...he doesn't let you down.
Loggins and Messina did a cute song for children called "House at Pooh Corner ". My nieces loved it as kids.
This was the theme song for the 1996 Olympics...that was held in Atlanta Ga.
The violins on this track are stunning. They tell a story. I like all the music composition.
Follow Michael McDonald, too - He's done solo, was with the Doobie Brothers, and Steely Dan - he's everywhere! Michael McDonald was singing background harmony.
Thanks for this trip down memory lane..i was lucky enough to see me some Kenny in concert, blue eye soul. Loving McDonald and Cross background. Written for his Dad...
"Keep The Fire", is a great album and this is my favorite song from it. ✌️
@BJ). An interesting side note, this song exploded in popularity because it was the theme song for the 1980 NCAA basketball tournament. So everytime I hear it I see Darrell “Dr. Dunkenstein” Griffith taking off for his patented “Around The World” dunk…
the next Kenny Loggins song to check out, I'm alright from the greatest movie ever Caddyshack
Listen to this song live with Kenny and Michael and it takes on a completely different feel. Really good.
Thundercat has both Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald on a track of his: Show You The Way. It’s so smooth and a great homage for their voices.
Deep meaning to this song, cause Kenny wrote it for his dad when he was sick. On another note, Ya’ll rockin & groovin but no reaction to Michael MMcDonald actually singin the lead on the bridge:
‘No one can tell you what you know’, also harmonizing on the hook & the pre chorus: ‘You say that maybe it’s over…’. Actually Mike probably layered his vocals singing different parts.
Check out Love Will Follow, with special guest Shanice, from Kenny’s live concert in the Redwoods wit a Smokin band.
My favorite Kenny song is L & M “Till the ends meet”. His range is astonishing.
Wife here..Perfect example of what my Husband and I call "Urban Night Sounds"..The Amazing Micheal Mcdonald backing there...There's my girl Asia mentioning the great Micheal Mcdonald!..You two are always on point!!..
Really need to listen to "Meet Me Halfway" ..his most powerful and moving song in my opinion.
Songs like these were still pretty new and mainstream in the early 80's, and for those of us that were born in the late 70's, these songs take us back to our early childhood. If I might be so bold as to suggest those were simpler times, and I can't help wishing in some ways we could get back to them...
When Michael McDonald is your “backup” singer YOU better bring it, and Kenny brought it!
Love Has Come Of Age, from the same album. Great song. Amazing, really.
After reviewing the song they just recorded, he said, " THIS IS IT" 🤣 big time L.O.L. 👍
Top Gun soundtrack has some songs 🎵
Please don't stop with Kenny Loggins alone. He was fantastic with Jim Messina and a group of top shelf musicians performing Angry Eyes live by Loggins and Messina. You'll love it!
Seen loggins, seen Michael Mcdonald a few times.
Both of them are living voice lessons.
You would also enjoy Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry "Don't Fight It".
For quite a few years CBS Sports was using this song as the intro for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and when you listen to the lyrics and put it in perspective of what the teams have to do to get to this point., it makes perfect sense
My favorite Kenny Loggins song loved it since I was 10 years old.
YES!!!!! Another Yacht Rock classic; Kenny Logins has so many fantastic songs; please keep going with him; “Heart To Heart”, “Celebrate Me Home”, his duet with Stevie Nicks “Whenever I Call You Friend” all greats! 💎❤️
“He got that flava in his voice”
Facts ☝️☝️☝️☝️
Great song! Great reaction! Almost reminds me of Dooby Brothers/ Michael McDonald!
Though I slightly prefer the pre-Michael McDonald songs.
Good point.
This is the song Michael Spinks chose to enter the ring to fight Mike Tyson in what was built up to be a super fight. The song may have lasted longer than the fight. It was over in 91 seconds.
I love your reactions. You 2 give off good vibes.
Kenny Loggins was in the video "We were the World ".
Right. He sang just before Steve Perry. It was then that they decided to do a song together. So they wrote and performed Don't Fight It. Another great one.
This is one of my all-time favorite songs...great reaction!! This song, this era was a showcase of some of the foundational talents, that helped shape the music landscape. Understated..but incredibly profound.
Haven't heard this song in forever... thanks!
" He got that flavor like that". I agree. Love You Guys
This was the song they used for the NCAA March Madness tournament on CBS in the early 80's.
Asia, this is your man, from the Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald, singing harmony, with Kenny Loggins.
Kenny Loggins AND Michael McDonald! Double attack!🎙👊
Lots of great tunes by Kenny. You need to check out his duet with Steve Perry called "Don't Fight It". Thanks and God Bless.
Love to hear the Loggins and Messina song Angry Eyes with you. It has your vocal harmonies, Sax, flute, funky bass, total vibe! 🤘🔥
That's Jeff Porcaro on drums if i'm not mistaken and Kenny was in "We are the world"/USA for Africa
Listen, I’m 54 years old and I love all types of music but Kenny Loggins is the shit
That groove’s in the pocket especially the intro 🎼 🔥
You also need to tap into Loggins and Messina...they were great from the 70's
Music was MUSIC in the 60's70's,80's
Michael also sings the beginning of the chorus
"Love Will Follow " is another song that is great! "Heart To Heart " shows his versatility of his voice.
This oozes Michael Jackson...could you imagine MJon this track with him? It would have shot through the universe!
It was Michael McDonald with Kenny logging I love both them I was 16 at the time this song Came out I'm telling y'all it the good old day thanks for uploading this song❤❤❤❤❤❤
Another song played at CVS! haha. Kenny's song "Meet Me Halfway" is a good song from the Over The Top Motion Picture soundtrack.
Gospel singer Kirk Franklin used this track for 1 of his songs as well......Love Kenny Loggins!
