Cowritten with Michael McDonald! They also co-wrote What A Fool Believes ! Mike sings on the chorus. Kenny is a real soul singer, IMO. ❤GREAT GREAT CHOICE! ❤❤❤ Kenny wrote the lyrics about his Dad who was fighting cancer. Kenny was the soundtrack king of the 80’s- Top Gun, Footloose , Caddyshack and so many more. Not a jingle writer. Fenom is right! There’s a fabulous live concert video of the two of them singing at The Redwood’s - these two songs! So soulful and jazzy!
If you liked this and you like Michael McDonald, you should check out “Minute by Minute” by The Doobie Brother ❤ another Kenny Loggins song that is pure fire is “Heart to Heart”, which was also co-written with Michael McDonald! They had some real hits together.
@@shellilawler1334 I haven't heard of that one, I'll have to check for it. Is it also an older song, I don't even know if Kenny does any kind of music anymore.
From Songfacts: Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald wrote this after Kenny's father had a serious heart problem and didn't know what to do about it. So they came up with this song about a man who is suffering terrible pain, looks to find his miracle and needs to "stand up and fight." After Loggins won a Grammy for the song in 1981 (Best Male Pop Vocal) he played it for his father, who lived four more years. Michael McDonald sang backup and played keyboards on the track. The two also collaborated on "What a Fool Believes." McDonald would go on to write several other songs for Loggins (and vice versa). Kenny Loggins spoke to American Songwriter magazine November/December 1987 about this song: "The best musical statements are usually the ones that aren't calculated and the ones that come out in the largest chunks. Michael McDonald and I must have written 'This Is It' four times. The first three times it was a love song, 'Baby I this, baby I that…,' and we both said, 'Eh! This is boring. This song is not working as a love song.' Then I had a fight with my dad when he was going into the hospital because he gave me the feeling that he was ready to check out. He'd given up, he wasn't thinking in terms of the future, and I was so pissed at him. It was real emotional. That afternoon, I was meeting with Michael to work on new tunes and I walked in and said, 'Man, I got it. It's 'This Is It.' And Michael said, 'This is it?' I said, 'Trust me. This is it.' But that one took a while. And then one review said it was your average boy-girl song and the writer didn't understand why people were making such a big deal out of it. The fact of the matter was, he didn't understand the song and it didn't move him because he wasn't in a situation to be moved. But immediately after that, I got a letter from a girl who had just recently gotten out of the hospital from a life-and-death situation and that was her anthem. She was holding onto it. That means so much more to me. She hadn't read the press about my father or anything. All she knew was that the song was on the nose for her, exactly what Michael and I intended. That makes you feel like you're doing something important."
He started out with Jim Messina in the early 70s and formed Loggings and Messina and a great song called Angry Eyes you should put on the list ..Also check out Gino Vanneli and the album Brother To Brother from 1978 and that mother will make your jaw drop..It has a huge sound production , just listen to the whole album and the hit from that was''''''''' I Just Wanna Stop'''' .
Oh Lord, what a memories this era brings up! Super Reactions! I think it was 1978, the winery where my mom worked had a huge meeting at the, "Miyako Hotel" in San Francisco. Me, my sister and dad got on the elevator and Kenny Loggins with several other band members were in there. Being a kid what I remember is, they were very gracious. They said, Hello and just talked and laughed. I think "When Ever I Call You Friend" was on the charts. The 70's were just different. Thank you for this memory today. Peace and God Bless
Fellas I got to C Kenny Loggins live in downtown O-town n this cat was bad ass n the crowd went wild. This guy has a voice n he has great music that U guys have to continue to react to.
Hello from Nederlands! Love your chanel, as a sugestion ... Heart to heart from Kenny Loggins, and he makes a footloose cover in Live From Daryll Halls House show, it was great! 🥰
Loggins is a legend with over 50 unforgettable tunes as a solo artist and with Loggins and Messina. Try his holiday song called Celebrate Me Home, I Believe In Love, What a Fool believes, Conviction of The Heart, Danny’s Song, Vahevala, Angry Eyes, and House at Pooh Corner. I saw Kenny perform live twice as A solo act and once on a reunion tour with Jim Messina!
Kenny and Michael McDonald do an amazing live version of What A Fool Believes from Kenny's Live from the Redwoods concert. Please look it up, it's the best version of the song IMO. Love ya guys!
At the end of the College Basketball Championship they play a song called 1 Shining Moment. But when I grew up with Magic and Jordan and Ewing And Iverson playing college basketball “THIS IS IT” was the song they used to show the tournament highlights. They need to go back to this song
this was a really good example of what makes reaction videos so fun - new music appreciation, surprises, assumptions destroyed etc. thanks guys - keep it going! peace.
It's a great song, and yes that was Michael McDonald singing in there too. You should check out Loggin's and Messina - Angry Eyes. You will not be disappointed. And, the next time I see yall, you better have the taco meat out.
Kenny Loggins is one of my all time favorite artists. And I'm excluding all the commercially successful songs! Starting in the 70s with Loggins and Messina to his astounding solo album, Celebrate Me Home, and on and on... I highly recommend trying Angry Eyes by Loggins and Messina. There's a live reunion performance that's good, but to my ears (and soul), the live performance from a 70s concert album is so much more satisfying. There are also great performances of Back to Georgia and Nobody But You on that album. Plus, get a load of Kenny's voice on the Trilogy: Lovin' Me - Make a Woman Feel Wanted - Peace of Mind. It stills blows my mind that he's that good live. And try some standouts from his first solo album like the title track, Celebrate Me Home, Lady Luck, Why Do People Lie, and one of my absolute favorites, Daddy's Back. His vocal range and creativity is gonna knock you out. There are videos available from some awesome live concerts (from gorgeous outdoor locations like Red Rocks) that I think you'd love. I'd love to see you react to at least one song - Kenny and Michael McDonald doing an interesting version of What a Fool Believes. It's perfection. And it's a song they individually recorded. Both were hits. I could go on and on. But I really do highly recommend starting with his earlier work. I think it will build tremendous respect for his talent. As the years went on, I connected more sporadically with his music.
Listen, I’m 53 years old. I listen to a lot of music. I have my favorites except Country. I do not like Country but I grew up in Miami during the freestyle days I love freestyle I love dance music I love hip-hop. I love R&B but you know what I love yacht rockand I love the 70s 80s love songs I grew up listening to Kenny Loggins and he’s fucking amazing
It’s funny you should mention jingle writers being that it was announced on the news in the late 90s that they were all being fired and the department shut down. Just not going to use them anymore. Heard any lately? I guess ‘Skyrizi’ could count.
Love love this song! I wore this album out as a 13 yr old - y’all need to listen to Vahevela by Loggins and Messina too and I dunno if you already hit Peg by Steely Dan for more luscious Michael McDonald backing vocals and hip hop heads will recognize the hook ☺️
Young brotha recognize Nas sample he did on this in the aftermath of late Biggie. Ironically Kenny & Michael McDonald wrote this together, inspired but Kenny’s dad suffering newer death, & encouraging him to fight. Would highly recommend a live performance Lenny did with r&b songstress, Shanice called Love Will Follow. Very cool with great live band. The concert was called Redwoods. Kenny also had a solo spot in the We Are the World project, &there’s video of a background vocal studio session that Quincy produced for a Donna Summer track called, State of Independence. It’s like a precursor to We Are the World, before anyone knew that would happen. When you check it out you won’t believe the combo of artists 9 singers, all solo artists except maybe one, on that one session.
Thought you might recognize this as CBS used it for NCAA Final Four theme for years. Is Michael McDonald on background. Check out him and Stevie Nicks duet “Whenever I Call You Friend”.
Please react to Kenny Loggins' "Celebrate Me Home" (Live from the Grand Canyon 1992). This is the best version of the song, and I just know you'll appreciate it. I've been a fan forever, and even I was blown away when I heard and saw it. Thanks! I love your reactions!
If you haven't heard MMcD's harmonizing in Peg by Steely Dan you should. Six part harmony with himself - he said it was the most difficult song he's ever worked on.
Aside from just being a good song on its own, this one’s notable to me as the sample for “We Will Survive” by Nas of his “I Am…” album, like was mentioned. Great sample.
Mike was busy with the doobies again at the time when Kenny did this he did some work and that's Mike that cowrote this with Kenny and that's him singing background on track he just doesn't appear in the video
Kenny Loggins and Stevie Nicks - Whenever I Call You Friend
W/ Michael McDonald who co-wrote this song on vocals too …

This song makes me 😢😢 like ugly cry EVERY time I hear it, it's carried me through some life changes, but to know the inspiration....😭😭

Oh wait! “Danny’s Song”! It’s so beautiful!!!
FROM THE FANTASTIC 1970s LATE 79
“Celebrate me Home” by Loggins is beautiful and REALLY shows off his vocal skills!
Awesome reaction.
Thank you.
This one and "Heart to Heart" are my favorites of his.
I miss songs which change tempos.
If you were blown away by "This is It" wait until you hear "Heart to Heart! "
You guys need to react to Kenny's real early hit "I Believe In Love" from his 1977 LP "Celebrate Me Home" -- that song is pure FIRE! 🔥🔥🔥
I had that album and love it soo much. That was his first solo album!
Kenny Loggins is where it’s at. He has an amazing voice!!
Celebrate Me Home is another beautiful Kenny Loggins song
Kenny was also the gorgeous voice right before Steve Perry in the original We are the World.
They also sang a duet called Don't Fight It.

What a Fool Believes is awesome!
Some forty years later and this jam is still going strong.
This jam was pumping all over Brooklyn back in the day, on the radio, record shops, car radio, jukebox.
Kenny Loggins has definitely mastered his craft. ❤
Kenny Logins wrote and sang I'm alright, theme song in Cady Shack. He is so versatile.

Same Kenny Loggins who sang Highway to the danger zone from the movie Top Gun
Kenny was the king of soundtrack hits in the 80's!!!
Its always reminds me of something that Michael Jackson could have sung because those silk vocals reminded me of Michael. Great song

You need to listen to him sing “Celebrate Me Home” live in 1992! It is awesome and shows his range in voice and just amazing! Gail
All timer vibes , gents .
Thanks for your appreciation of excellence .
"Don't Fight It" was a duet with Kenny and Steve Perry (of Journey) that I bet you'll enjoy.
My dad had the 45 single for this song and he would play the record over and over again. This song always makes me think of him. RIP Daddy.
