    How ironic that Dale Earnhardt passes Mark Martin for his first road coarse win(Mark Martin's specialty). The previous week Mark Martin passed Dale Earnhardt at Talladega for his first restrictor plate win(Dale Earnhardt's specialty)

      If I’m not mistaken, the Talladega race was held the weekend prior to the Sears Point race. I remember very clearly that one of the pit reporters asked Steve Hmiel (Mark’s Crew Chief) something like if he thought that Mark had a good chance of winning the race with Earnhardt sitting in second place. Steve told the reporter that they had heard
      Earnhardt say on the radio that he didn’t have anything for Mark that day. And then the following weekend they raced at Sears Point and the reason why Earnhardt won the race was that he had smelled oil on the track the lap before he passed Mark, but Mark didn’t smelled anything and hit the oil on the track and got loose, and that’s when Earnhardt passed him.
      A couple of weeks later Car & Driver magazine did a piece on Earnhardt and the main topic was how Dale won the race. I think that the title for that article was “It’s all in the eyes”.
      See if you can find it. It was a very well written article. 👍🏁🏆

      So I'm not without really knowing the nascar! And yet, my best period and from 87 to the end of the 90's clearly for me! The change of design of the cars already, more, the fact of being to pass precisely to these enormous cars but, which are almost more recognizable between them! Compare to that time, the 80s and 90s, where we knew at first glance, who was who. Thanks to their unique car and their unique painted scheme too! Seeing a monte carlo or a Ford T.bird or an Oldsmobil an F.Taurus or Lumina was more pleasant than the Toyota Camry and others of today (personal opinion)

    Martin had the piece and was a stellar road course diver, so that tells you how good Earnhardt was this day, and man they sounded so good back then, sound nothing like that anymore and have no where near the HP.

  • @MyKittyPercy
    @MyKittyPercy 5 лет назад +7

    Rusty really threw away great track position by pitting with less than 20 to go and it made no sense. This is why Earnhardt has a better average finish on road courses than Rusty and even Jeff Gordon who has 9 wins. He and his crew rarely made mistakes. Big picture racing was his specialty. I used to rank based on win percentage, but average finish is starting to take precedence for me

    • @ethanweeter2732
      @ethanweeter2732 2 года назад +1

      Yeah, but Dale never had the raw pace those guys had on road courses. Only time he showed raw pace really was maybe the 1996 Bud at the Glen and he did lose that race late because of his recent broken sternum crash at Talladega.

    • @joshlight6892
      @joshlight6892 2 года назад +1

      @@ethanweeter2732 they weren't his cup of tea but he was getting better imho. Probably would have won a couple more had it not been for the Talladega crash in 1996. Dale pre Talladega 1996 and post Talladega crash were two different drivers. He went from the best to just good after that.
