As they mentioned, this was the first race after Neil Bonnett's bad wreck at Charlotte. He missed the last three races of '87, but to start '88, he finished fourth in the Daytona 500, then won at Richmond and Rockingham, as well as winning the race in Australia. It's a shame that his career was hampered by injuries from about 1986 on...and more of a shame that he was taken before his time (26 years ago today).
One of the nice things about NASCAR broadcasting back then for me was getting alot of different viewpoints from wide array of commentators instead of the nbc team of guys who sound alike
If there had only been safer barriers 2001 and Earnhardt wearing a Hans device maybe Dale would still be with us guiding his team as an owner these days.
Would have been nice if Cup returned to Rockingham. If not for the Ferko Suit, none of this would have happened. Same thing with North Wilkesboro. Nowadays, it's all cookie-cutter race tracks.
It’s a shame that they don’t race at the good tracks. Nobody’s wants to see a leader pull away and have no cars in front to deal with. MAKE RACING GREAT AGAIN
I don’t know the sources other than what I found on YT, word round the campfire NASCAR is coming back to Wilksboro , like I said I haven’t heard anything official from NASCAR about it, only from my sources on YT. I can’t remember if it was Brock beard, Slapshoes or some variation but someone on here did a story about NASCAR & wilksboro being a reality again.
I miss going to the "The Rock"......use to go to both races every year. Another major mistake made by NASCAR when they left. Screwed the fans that made them what they were. Just look at it today.......Damn Joke!!!
Total joke today I live in Fayetteville I went to my first race at Rockingham in 89 when Mark Martin won went too many races there after that I can't even drive by it anymore brings me to tears drivers love that track and so did the fan NASCAR's just shit now I can't even watch the races anymore on TV
Boy it sure takes me back to my youth seeing these great names in racing

I was there in Charlotte when Neil Hit the wall. It shook us like a bomb explosion.

I really really love watching these old Nascar racing a whole whole lot and I still watch Nascar racing
5:58 - When Dale Earnhardt passes the line, he will become a 3 time Winston Cup Champion
2:51 a wild GM Goodwrench car on the track while Dale still wore the Wrangler colors.
Do you know who that was?
@@ehss192 they explain it about five minutes in
@@tommynesbitt4837 Somehow I missed the part where they mentioned Richard driving the car.
Thanks for pointing it out.
The cars look stock bodied,cool.
Dale Sr clinches the Championship with two races left to run.
I enjoyed the True-value breakdowns and in race interviews!
lake speed did great announcing. he could have had career at that. he was great guy too.
Ken Squire was so great.

Thank you.

Bruton smith ruined NASCAR

Didn't you love the cheers and screams when Earnhardt crashed! Reminded me of Harvick at the Roval this year. Let the siron blast.
Dale Sr had a comforrtable lead entering to this race with just start the race he clinched the tittle.
3rd of 7 titles
👍🏻
What kind of unorganized start was that😂😂

Must have been great. Nothing but envy here
Audiences at the track dwindled and the facilities weren't upgraded at all to suit the bigger fields.
The scenery was AWESOME. Sure beats lookin at empty seats.
0:00 Lmao. Zero shits given
👍
They weren't good at replays in this era though..
2:51 Goodwrench
