  • In today's video, I recap my recent European journey, sharing what I loved and what didn't quite meet the mark. The trip was mostly unplanned, a way to explore Europe and test out how well my motorhome would fare. From practicalities like paperwork to the culture and food, I dive into it all.
If you've never used the "Le Shuttle" train over to france and are thinking of going then you definitely need to check out ‪@TheHillsExplore‬, Beth & Riki's video...hands down the best, sooooo flipping helpful, Beth knows her stuff, cheers Beth!
    • OUR BEGINNER'S GUIDE -...
I also talk about future upgrades for my motorhome, aiming to make my next trips even more comfortable. Belgium and Germany are next on my travel list, and I share my plans for a more structured yet flexible travel itinerary.
Got any recommendations for must-see places in Belgium and Germany? Drop them in the comments! Stay tuned for more, including some fishing adventures on my upcoming secondary channel. See you in the next video!

On the small drink issue. You ask for a jug of tap water for the table. Especially in France. It's normal for people to drink their wine and also have a glass of water. I don't drink wine.

Daz, we are currently in Hamelin, Lower Saxony. My first visit to Germany and it is fabulous! We are slowly making our way south toward Austria and then Northern Italy. We left our home in the north of Ireland two weeks ago. So far and not including the ferry from Ireland to Cherbourg, we have travelled 1700km through France and southern Belgium. The Ardenne Forest is spectacular, the villages and towns beautiful, the people superb! One thing to point out, we are a couple and our Labradoodle in a lwb Sprinter which is a bit tight, but we have been up and down some amazing roads with tight hairpins....in the "land yacht" you would have to give serious thought to where you can take it. Good luck to you and keep on keeping on 👍

We stopped near Dinant in southern Belgium this year. Interesting small town. Namur is also nearby.
Increasingly places do alcohol free bear (if you are okay with the taste), or sparkling water which comes in big bottles when eating out.
When next in France, try Flunch ..... They're in most large towns and would make great food video

When you head into Germany, take time to explore the north - you have Hameln (Hamlin) and the Mona Dam, also cities like Hamburg. So much to see and do and often overlooked for the South (which is fantastic).

When I was a kid in the 1960's shops closed Saturday afternoon all day Sunday and afternoon on Wednesday. They are only open all the time here in the UK now because the standards for working class people has gone through the floorboards. Whilst the rich get richer off the backs of the masses. Nice to see you enjoyed your adventure.

Hi Daz. I’m a coach driver and although I only do local work now in South West Wales, a few years back I used to do uk and European tours. I highly recommend Switzerland to visit, also Luxembourg and Austria and most of all especially Italy. If you’re anything like me you’ll never want to leave Italy. Give Croatia a go too. Very nice. I hope that will give you some future ideas geezer. Thoroughly enjoyed your France vids Daz I recommend Annecy. The lake is beautiful, and Chamonix at the foothills of Mont Blanc, you will love it. • @Albert_206
    @Albert_206 10 месяцев назад +2

Born and raised almost in Amsterdam I am afraid you are right, it is so filthy and don’t know exactly why, a lot of people I know have their business there, just regular shops and the broom every morning noon and evening, spraying with water but no matter how often people just throw their stuff on the pavement. And as you found out, prices are just ridiculous, you know for a pint you can buy a krate of 24, 33cl beer or three bottles of Coca-Cola max :-(
Now If you want to visit Belgium again, in the Ardennes there is the smallest city of Europe, Durbuy it is called. The way to it is beautiful and for your motorhome there are sufficient parking areas. Nearby you have troi pontes, which is also very nice. The region of Spa is also very nice with lots of restaurants and what a lot of popelen don’t the region is a death humongous Vulcan. And throughout the Ardennes you can dish wild trout off course in the rivers, two of the most well ‘now the Ambléve and de Ourthe in summer you can put on your watertight trousers (don’t know the name in English) and reel them in (if you lucky..) what is really nice a lot of campgrounds you are allowed to make a bonfire to cook your trout :-) anyways, bon voyage for a next time! Albert 🇳🇱

Hi Daz. Glad you enjoyed it. You can get a shandy in France, it’s called panache 👍 You can also ask for a carafe of water (don’t make the mistake of asking for bottled water - it can cost up to 10 euro in some places and is more expensive than soft drinks 🤣). I did Belgium last new year and can definitely recommend Durbuy Vielle Ville (it’s a beautiful old town) but we also stayed in Ghent and then got the train to Antwerp and Brussels which was fab 👍

    G'day Dazz,
Jillian used a curtain track from an over head bed cab. This goes from one side to the other and closes off the overhead section. What Jillian did was to find matching curtain material, and sewed it to the existing curtain so we now have floor to ceiling curtains. Your friends at OakTree should be able to get one for you. Works a treat. Cheers mate from Dennis and Jillian

I have no experience in this but maybe looking at a caravan in my retirement to travel and see the UK mostly but Europe too. Have you considered retro-fit air con vs fans? All caravaners seem to rave about the pros of air-con. Caravans have loads of glass so maybe less of an issue in motor homes?

We’re actually struggling more with buying meat in supermarkets and keep commenting on the nice marinated meats you bought but we’ve not found any yet. Drink water, that's the only thing that will quench your thirst with any benefit, have your soft drink to enjoy for the taste, because drinking that rubbish (sorry Darran but it is no good for you) has no benefit. I have a thermal wall separating my cab, it's really good, made for my Ducato by fiamma. It rolls up out the way if you don't want to use it. I'm sure you could get one for other models and coach built motorhomes.

    I live in Belgium.
If you need anything, send me a message.
Also if you like soms WW1 memorials. The Passchendaele museum/ park/ area is quite nice.
Just been there myself. Not a huge fan of museums but it was really nice.
Also Oudenaarde and Mechelen are quite nice. Maybe Leuven on your way to Germany.
The southern cities of Belgium are a bit more industrial and grimy. From the coal days. But the nature is quite nice.

In France I would have a demi peche or diabolo menthe [is it a refreshing drink on a hot day that you can slowly sip over a period of time, although not everyone is a fan of mint], then ask for jug of water. Always being polite buying a drink first before asking for water. Soft drinks are always more expensive in France because they have more tax applied than booze.

About Amsterdam. Im a brit living here. Amsterdam has got too much tourism. The Dutch government are actually trying to reduce it.they call / brand the country as "the Netherlands" instead of Holland. They have set taxes soo high for coffeeshop owners and hotels, in an attempt to make alot of them fail.
Ams is also very overpopulated, but as with everything you go away from Leidseplein, dam and redlight, and all the places you would have gone to, you get cleaner streets and nicer less expensive places.
The red light needs to be visited on Saturday night or there are no workers. Alot of it is also hidden down streets that alot of people miss or are unaware of. Amsterdam has a brit problem, brits come over in massive groups (stags, hens, football etc) and absolutely wreck the place
Re' drinks, i always go for cassis or cordial.
Eyrope in general doesn't like the Americanised greedy convenience approach, in their eyes, they enjoy time off and plan for it. Sundays are a relax day and Mondays are often closed because theyre not profitable.
In NL, the shops have a late night opening one day a week, like where i live is on a Thursday .Supermarkets are open on sundays til 9pm.
Ps if you want views and Vista's, you want french, austrian, swiss and italian alps.
