Most other countries have pledged carbon neutrality by 2040, so three decades before India and they're cleaning up at a much faster and more comprehensive rate than India. Seeing as India's towns and cities are already the most polluted in the world then the answer is governments can do a LOT to help mitigate the effects of climate change and to prepare for a future where weather patterns are more extreme and more unpredictable. India is lagging way behind China in the implementation of green policies and renewable energy, and India's towns and cities are now the most polluted in the world. People stop illegal construction when the government, both state and federal, have strict policies in place and punish those who break the law. The landslide happened in 2018 at the same place, the local government still kept giving permission to resort owners to build on the land. The minister giving the interview is being dishonest. We live opposite side of the mountain where the landslide happened and we can see it very clearly. The local government should take the blame for this disaster.

Climate change is a thing and Modi has kicked the entire issue into the long grass, claiming that India needs to 'develop' and not pledging to be carbon neutral until 2070, by which time it will be too late! Most other countries have pledged carbon neutrality by 2040, so three decades before India and they're cleaning up at a much faster and more comprehensive rate than India. Seeing as India's towns and cities are already the most polluted in the world then the answer is governments can do a LOT to help mitigate the effects of climate change and to prepare for a future where weather patterns are more extreme and more unpredictable. Modi has his priorities wrong, he's more concerned about building silly Ram temples and other vanity projects instead of helping Indians to prepare for the future where climate change will be taking lives!

India is lagging way behind China in the implementation of green policies and renewable energy, and India's towns and cities are now the most polluted in the world.
People stop illegal construction when the government, both state and federal, have strict policies in place and punish those who break the law. Punish them heavily and then the message will get out and the public's behaviour will change. But then corruption always plays its part in India too.
