This is a very well-researched episode. Linking climate justice with global warming is so important. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have become a more acceptable index to measure socio-economic health instead of GDP.
I remember being in university and hearing about global warming back in the 90s. 25 years have passed already and we haven’t done jack. Another 25 years and we will have massive instability.

When I cleared jee and got IIEST Shibpur, I did not get any hostel, so I had to travel from home every day , so my dad asked me if I should get a Bike. tbh I was happy, but soon, I figured out what I should do....and yes, I just purchased a cycle.

Being someone from Kerala, I can surely say that the pattern of rain in Kerala has drastically changed in the last 10 years. We used to have a calm monsoon season starting exactly in the first week of June and the steady and beautiful rain will continue for the next 3-4 months. Now, it is completely messed up. Extreme hot season in June and intermittent cloud-burst type mega heavy rain for days. There is no way we can avoid landslides and floods in an area where over 500mm rain fall in 24 hours. All forecast reports and warnings were turned out to be wrong. Our costal lines is also becoming larger and larger. It is calculated that there will be 2 CM increase in sea level in Arabian sea in the next 20-25 years and Port city Kochi and surrounding districts will be wiped out. Then it is Mumbai's turn.

Agree with you completely in the shifting patterns of rain..I remember the rains the make its downpour exactly on 1st of June with school openings...Now this is the new reality and the disaster as such might not be in control, we must come up with a methodical plan to avoid the extend of damages ....And any reasons that contribute to extend of damages be it related to money, politics ,sentiments need to be overlooked..
This is exactly what I was thinking, too. Every year, monsoon would start exactly on June 1st when our school reopened. In the past few years, that had been changed. This year, after the extremely hot summer in March-Apr Monsoon started earlier in mid-May, and the rain hasn't stopped since.
2:16 I am from Kasaragod district of Kerala.I have been observing Monsoon rainfall in districts of Kerala and Coastal Karnataka.Since childhood I was always curious about monsoon season in our country.🎉
What I have noticed is,
1) Till 2017 June and July were the month we were getting highest rainfall(1000mm each month).But after 2018 even this hasbeen shifted to July and August.
2)According to IMD,among coastal Karnataka and districs of kerala Udupi, Mangaluru, Kasaragod are the districs which get maximum rainfall during monsoon season.But since 2018 Kannur and Kozhikode districts are getting higher rainfall compared to Kasaragod,Mangaluru.
3) Usually in our district whole 3 months(June,July, August)each day will be rainy day.But 2018-23 There were few weeks when there is no rain,and few days with heavy rain.
That means heavy rains on particular day are increased so much.Yet this year in our district there is constant average rainfall.This year it appeared like ideal rainy season in our district.
4)And the main thing is....
Western ghat regions are receiving isolated heavy rains nowadays.That means only some places getting large rainfall while nearby place not getting so...I think main cause of this is deforestation in those regions.Because clouds are formed because of those forests.So whenever we alter the forest there is alteration in rain pattern.

Here in kerala.govt banned sand mining to save rock miners life.many of the quary is by politicians.this create weaakness and eventually leads to landslide.even opp and small parties like bjp isn't talking this. Then these over sand is also leads to flood

Indians just concentrate on marriages births irrespective of climate change or landmass. All Indians feel entitled to mass migrate to the Christian West and fill up their landmass. Such an important issue but no mainstream media nor the government does anything to avoid such disasters. We have been just building resorts to increase revenue from tourism without caring for nature. Also we are making roads and also doing mining without any care for the environment. It's such a shame, anyway we have lots of population. So the government thinks that even if a few people die it doesn't matter.

Do you know that you are to blame too? Your food choices are having an adverse effect on climate change. I have posted facts on how animal agriculture is driving climate change. We need to change first then ask the govt to change. That is how systemic change occurs. 80% of the Amazon rainforest has been lost owing to cattle ranching and growing soy to feed livestock. The fossil fuel industry is not the leading cause of deforestation. It is the animal agriculture industry. We 8 billion humans artificially breed and kill 80 BILLION land animals around the world every year. Think of the land and water needed to grow crops to feed them, think of the land needed to locate them, think of the amount water you need to feed the animals. Think of the pollution in the form of pee and poo these animals produce. It is causing ocean acidification and ocean dead zones. Think of the habitat loss, biodiversity loss that is occuring because of deforestation. Think of the amount of methane the animal agriculture industry produces. Cows and buffaloes produce methane. There are umpteen other reasons to stop eating animals. Are you ready to do your part? Humans love consuming animals and their secretions and the govt loves making money. How can you expect the govt to change when you won't? Change begins with YOU.

When you mentioned Sikkim floods, all the destruction came as a flashback. We lost our only source of income; our shop, having many goods, post which we've fallen into financial crisis.
Many known people lost their lives; many people fled from here. All of it has been very much traumatic. Still our government has no concerns. Our esteemed supreme leader is not worried about rail accidents, paper leaks, climate change etc.

More youth and kids need to be aware of this. This type of analysis is required to be taught in schools so that next generation is not only aware but can come up with unique solutions. We at our level can reduce pollution. I see people travelling in 1 car each towards same destination daily. This can be reduced heavily by carpooling, there are some apps available for it but it again depends how much people are ready to co-operate. Education is not only about good earnings but also what we pass on to our next generation.. cleaner, safer environment.

The issue is that people in India(mainly) do not take the climate crisis seriously. They are reluctant to believe that it is more of a man-made problem than a natural disaster. Even when I try to talk and write about it, sharing my thoughts with friends, colleagues, and family, none of them take it seriously. They even label me as anti-capitalist, among other things. When people are not willing to take responsibility, what can be done? I lost my hope

Hoping that both central and state governments come together to tackle climate change. If they stay divided on climate change as well like other political issues, it will do a lot more irreparable damage to our country's biodiversity; specially north-east states, western and eastern ghats, himalayan states and Ladakh which are already suffering due to beings eco-sensitive zones
Climate change is not a state or even an Indian issue, its a global issue. Yes we can do a lot but the rest of the world has to be with us. At the moment the most polluting countries like the USA dont care

I remember a tribal gentleman say that not all our knowledge is same; their entire knowledge and life is restricted to their forest ecosystems while our education, occupation lets us find a living elsewhere.

Waste management needs to be organised. Dumping wastes on water bodies and land fills are also very hazardous.
There are no proper toilets and sewage systems never mind dumping and waste management. In the seventies I would wade in two feet of water in Mumbai mixed with sewage. 40+ years on same problem instead of Religious BS address societal infrastructure issues.

This is really sad reality that we are facing these kind of situation nowadays. Climate change is crucial topic that we must talk and take an appropriate action. I as a human always try not to effect the environment and climate as must as possible like I use reusable product, always carry big veggies bag to avoid plastic bag, limited use of water,properly use of waste products an so on. We should teach our children regarding the climate changes.

This issue should reach each and every citizen of our country and they should become climate conscious!
